Looking at a few job opportunities after I finish up my masters program in July. What's the city of Charlotte like for a guy in his mid-20s? How's the job market? How are the people? Is it pretty well diverse and integrated? Is it agood place to start a life/family?

Charlotte is great for someone in their mid 20s

Job market is pretty good since it's the 2nd largest banking district (I think)

Can't give you tips on the best places to live cause i live like an hour north but all my friends down there love it

Very diverse and they have good schools dependent on which area of the city you live.

Good stuff. I'm in the public admin/civil service field so hopefully I'll be able to come up on something. What're the surrounding areas like?

You'll be like 2 hours from the Raleigh/Durham area....maybe the same distance from the mountains...myrtle beach is probably around 3 hours away but as I'm getting older I prefer NC beaches which are more laid back and secluded.

Plenty of nice suburban communities outside of charlotte but I'm sure that commute into the city would be a ***** if your job is located there.

Hopefully someone who lives in charlotte post in here cause they can give you way more info than me lol

Thinking about making a NYE trip to Charlotte, always hear good things about NC.

I'm from charlotte... I live in DC now.. Much rather be in DC than Charlotte... But I miss it from time to time..

My brother lives there. I'm trying to plan a trip out there soon to get a feel of the place.

Glad the thread got a slight bump

Charlotte is a chill city. It's big and small at the same time. There's enough to do, but isn't the most cultural place out there. Kinda plain.

However, the cost of living is low and the job market is strong. Good place to get your hustle on.

As far as places to live you have

Downtown - Like any city, kinda expensive but reasonable compared to other cities

South End - Up and coming, has a combination of artsy and business

Northlake - Boring surburban type living but cheaper and near shopping

University - Similar to Northlake, but near UNC Charlotte

Ballantyne - Uppity suburbia but has some really nice spots

NoDa - Straight Bohemian vibe with good music venues and food

SouthPark - Upscale living with shopping, you can live near the area for cheap tho

Most of the other places are too hood, too expensive, or too far out

Funny you made this thread. An NTer relocated there months ago. I talked to him and see how he likes it. He said it's a small city with big city feel. He has a nice apartment in downtown for a grand a month. I'm semi thinking myself.

My little brother goes to school out there. Went to visit him and really enjoyed the city. Me and the lady are trying to move down there in about 5 years. I'm in finance, she's in education so we think it'll be a nice look for us.

Yeah the affordability and job market got me and some friends looking at it heavy. Live well, pay off your debts, have fun, southern hospitality, big booties. Almost sounds too good to be true.

hmmm..where are you from OP?

definitely take a trip and come with an open mind. i'm from NY but i will give my unbiased opinion.

charlotte is a mid sized suburban city. not a lot to do within charlotte but you can get to dc or atlanta or a beach (myrtle, charleston, etc.). the malls are wack but most malls are wack nowadays, right? you can't really shop downtown, unfortunately. the mass transit options are garbage.

the cost of living is lower than a lot of cities...a one bedroom will run around 550-700 on average with it going higher depending on where you're trying to stay.

i have no idea what the crime rate is like but i almost got shot in the head like half a year ago checking my mail.

um...i mess with the arts scene here. its ground level but its refreshing to see ppl care and try to start something here, you know? not a lot of mom and pop shops or things of that sort so anything homegrown is appreciated.

there are a lot of cool ppl here. black sheep is charlottes supreme IMO. what else...

if you have specific questions, lemme know.

I'm in Charlotte all the time for work. Nice area all around. Haven't really interacted with the town folk though.

You must've been in the hood to almost get shot in the head

if I was single I would probably be living there now

Would stay somewhere outside the city

I don't think alot of ppl know Black Sheep even exsists in Charlotte unless you live by it, or maybe I'm hanging with the wrong people.
I'm literally the only person I know with Black Sheep clothing

If you stay in the city your fine. Go too far out and its still the south.... and not the good south
