I think gangster rap needs to take a break

First off, G-Unit is one of my favorite hip hop groups. They basically ran the rap game from 2003-2007 IMO. Beg for Mercy and Hunger for More will always be classics to me. But then along came Drake, Tunechi, A$ap, JCole, etc. etc. It's like a new era of music I don't know how to explain it. I say that in a good way. I never used to #$%@ with them when they debuted, but now i'm slowly starting to appreciate them more and more. After hearing a few mixtapes from G-Unit I assume they are trying to make a comeback, for some reason I stopped caring.

I've been listening to stuff like "Stolen Dance" by Milky Chance, and Fitz & the Tantrums. Also some progressive trance and deep house. Once in a long while I'll throw on some classic 50 cent or Royce 5' 9'' just for the nostalgia. My point is I think I grew out of that rap music phase. Does anyone else feel this way?

Who is even considered "gangster rap" these days? That seems like a very lazy term.

The ones who live that lifestyle wanna listen to that music
I can't tell if this is a troll post or not. Either way, I chuckled.

OP sound like he just grew out of it which is normal. What is not normal is thinking something such as a certain type of music should stop because he's not into it. lmao Self absorbed much?

Just like I said in another thread, the idea of wreaking havoc on black lives in this country has always been accepted, encouraged and profitable. If you talk about harming the president, you get arrested, if you mention harming people on a plane, you get arrested, if you explicitly talk about killing black people, you get paid for it and become a legend.

Our race will literally self-destruct sooner or later.

Its music tho, its an art form & entertainment no different than a movie

We're to busy wondering about if what these rappers are saying is true or not rather than enjoying there craft for what it is

You preaching to the wrong crowd in here.

These silly *** ****** think that music is only entertainment because they only see life and existence on the material plane. Very few people on here have knowledge of frequencies, vibrations, and their effects on the subconscious.

This school of thought has been presented to me many times and I've been read literature on the subject. The effects of rap music (gangster rap in particular) have on a persons psyche seem like a valid concern, I would never go as far as saying that its not a valid concern. That being said, rap music is all I know, all I have ever known in terms of music, I cant see myself giving it up ever and gangster rap (lets just lump in luxury rap and all forms of secular music here) is what I prefer to listen to. I dont think I could drastically alter the kind of music I consume to that degree.

Gangsta rap has always and will always be my favorite kind of rap. An these Chiraq cats is keepin it alive and well.

I pity the fool who think it should take a break.

Rap music does have an effect on young dudes who don't know any better. Most grown *** men that I know take it for what it is, an artform. Rap muisc is at the bottom of the list as far as problems in our community. Poverty, lack of jobs and f'ed up schools needs to be talked about way more than rap music.

It all needs to be talked about. They're all pieces to one puzzle.

I also find it funny that nobody seems to have a problem with the fact that WE don't even ******* own our own culture. Like really? None of you dudes don't see a problem with that? You really don't think the fact that the same people who don't want us on the planet...own and profit from OUR culture? That's a minor problem?
