When doctors told Brittany Maynard that her days were numbered due to a progressive brain tumor, the 29-year-old decided to take charge of her life, MyFox8.com reported.

Maynard has chosen November 1 as the day she will die.

So is this considered suicide? Apparently she's getting some sort of injection by nurses to do this. What do you think? Is she a coward? Do you understand the reasoning?

I would say I've been around a lot of cancer patients recently and I wouldn't blame them if they denied treatment. This process is honestly torturous. I'm not sure how I would feel if my mom decided a death date though.

I would just smoke maaaaaaad weed and soak in cannabis oil, and see what happens.
I believe in miracles. ( or unexplained minuscule possibilities coming to fruition: for my atheists)

I applaud her decision to go on her terms as opposed to dying a slow, painful death. If I had a terminal disease, I'd cop the death pill too. First I'd go do all the things I always wanted to do, then take the pill and enjoy my last few moments in peace.

She's braver than me. I'd probably thug it out and then be regretting it once the painful times come. She has no chance of surviving so there's nothing wrong with going out in peace.

Much love and peace to her and her family

So it's only right to take your life when you have a terminal illness?
Dawg... You might be the worst. Did anyone in this thread say that, or are you just trolling for bites as usual?

If you want to make a thread debating the merits of suicide, do it. That has nothing to do with this Woman's physical life on earth.

I wish her a beautiful and exciting passed physical life, cause I'm sure she'll get it.

You are annoying seriously, get off my back. I can't even ask a question without getting harassed damn. All I want to know is if there's a difference between this and suicide I clearly asked that question in the OP.

This.

Doctor already said she's gonna die... so how is this suicide if she picks the date?

She's physically healthy enough that she could keep going for awhile, but she'd be in extreme pain. She chose to end her life early so as not to endure that, and be totally cognizant during her final days.

Easy man. While this is about the woman's situation the OP centered it on the implications of such a decision. He's clearly adding another angle to converse about to help make this multi-faceted discussion, hence the various questions in the original post.

I mean she's more of a man than I am.

I'd be bawling right now and prolonging this as much as possible

I don't think anybody said it was right.

I also don't think this is a matter of right and wrong.

It's his thread. He can ask w/e questions he wants about the topic he brought up.

Its her right to do what she wants to do with herself.

However calling her courageous is a total slap in the face to anyone who's had a disease or serious illness and fought it to the very end.

If we're going to call this lady courageous then by that logic the 9-11 hijackers and suicide bombers should be labeled courageous as well since they were willing to die for the cause they believed in.

Yeah I read a whole lot of brave and courageous posts in the other thread especially ones replying to anyone they disagree with. It's really cliche. Reminds me of Breast Awareness month episode of The League recently  Shorty put on a pink bandanna and had some small breast so everybody thinking she has cancer calling her brave and courageous every other sentence.

It's like this person is brave for planning to end her life before it gets bad and the person deciding to fight it or see it through to the end is what? Giving up?

My neighbor recently had some tumors flare up again and instead of getting chemo this time around he went the natural way. Dude gets colonics like every other day, he only eats raw vegetables, and he's been recovering nicely.

I understand this woman's choice though. It's her life and if she feels the battle won't be worth fighting, it's her right to choose when she leaves Earth.

Yeah I don't get it. Brave and courageous to me is saying. "Damn this disease totally sucks, but I got time left in this world and I'm going to live it to the fullest as best as I possibly can and when its my time to go, its my time"

Wow, that is atrocious "logic." Without even going into the long-term repercussions of that event, her actions aren't going to cause the immediate deaths of hundreds...

Such terrible analogy. Clearly not the same definition of courage being used in this instance, to say the least.

She's doing these things, she's traveled and still has a few things on her bucket list before she goes to sleep....she knows her fate, she doesn't want to reach that stage where she no longer can enjoy the little life she has left, is pretty common sense, how some of you don't get it, I just don't understand..

Please explain. Let me say though that I hope the 9-11 hijackers are rotting in hell right now. But it takes some level of courage to do what they did knowing that they were going to die. Selfish and evil as well yes.

Like I said though. My beef is that if we call this lady courageous, then what do we call the people who fight cancer to the very end?
