2018/19 Philadelphia 76ers Thread: The Process Continues

I wouldn't touch rose with a 10 ft pole..injury prone and wants to be maxed out...naw I'm good..A guy like Rose would be a final piece to puzzle for a fringe championship team..This team is no where near that point..And I doubt rose or any really good player would want to even come here right now..none of our guys are proven enough to garner that kind of respect yet..

The thing is...even if we were to try to trade for somebody like Rose or Paul George, what would we give up?

We'd probably have to give up one of Embiid, Okafor or Noel plus our first rounder this year or the Lakers pick. That would be another big risk.

I still think a big trade is in the works. Will all the picks we have + Saric, a move for Paul George could seriously happen. Especially if the Kings somehow net a top 5 pick plus the Lakers pick conveying
Paul George is the only untradeable player on Indiana. We could offer Saric, Jah or Noel, and a first-round pick and the Pacers would probably still say no. The Indiana franchise is built around him and he was on a career arc trending upward prior to the gruesome injury. This year, I think he's motivated and going to remind NBA fans why he's a top-10 player in the league while mounting a MVP-caliber campaign.

Nobody is taking Embiid for a player of Rose or George's caliber. Any reputable GM would be unwise to trust the way our organization has handled Embiid's medical situation. He's far from a clean bill of health. I'm not saying Embiid is Oden just yet, but my expectations physically and with on-court productivity have lessened dramatically with all the setbacks. Not a good sign, but I remain hopeful.

I feel like this team will be the worst of the 3 Hinkie seasons
That's fine with me as long as the team defense and overall energy continues to improve under Brown. I understand this is a long-term project. The MCW trade made sense as much as some Sixers fans wanted to complain. He can't shoot and the Syracuse zone masked his individual defensive ability. I didn't like seeing K.J. McDaniels go, that was a great second-round find and he has tons of athleticism. The trade to Houston was a bit perplexing, we were worried he was an impending FA? Because he's shown me enough flashes to warrant the 3/$10M Houston gave him this offseason. Not to mention Hinkie fleeced Sacramento. Sorry, @rck3sactown and @Nelson999.

my fear is Brett Brown has enough and just peaces out

eventually all this losing is going to get to someone

I just looked at this year's draft prospects and it looks like bigs all over the top 7. Exactly what we don't need. That being said, I do see a trade happening between now and draft day.

My biggest hope is that Lakers pull the trigger too early on Russell and we trade their pick (or our pick) to them for D'angelo. I know it's wishful thinking...but you never know.

I really want to see this Sixers team fully healthy.

Jaylen Brown and Jamal Murray are the guys we need to be looking at.

Can that Jaylen Brown kid shoot & defend too tho? Cause lord knows we need some wings/2 guards that can do that

Even though we lost last night...it was a solid effort and very encouraging to see.

Sauce Castillo showed us glimpses of what he can potentially offer..not just a jump shooter, but drives and beautiful passes. He has high bball IQ.

Noel was absolutely BEASTING the first half of the game. I absolutely love what he brings to the team. He really does remind me of a young KG/ Marcus Camby on the defensive end. the offence is still a work in progress but the hustle and passion he brings is hard to replace. Once he has a PG that can set him up, life will be easier for him.

Okafor was schooling Cleveland bigs down low. Powering Love and finessing Mozgov. I love his versatilely on the offensive end. Uber talented. This pick ended up WAY better than D'angelo. lol That being said, I still think Noel is the most valuable out of the big three and most underrated. Jah makes the highlight reels, but Noel does all the little things that bigs should do to win basketball games. Jah's scoring is great but he needs to strengthen all other parts of his game, his rebounding should be better and he doesn't intimidate anyone on defence. How many teams with offensive bigs ended up with winning records?

Brook Lopez, Al Jeff, David Lee, Monroe etc...All are decent players but the first two struggle to make the playoffs while Lee is reduced to a bench role and Monroe makes the Bucks defence look aweful. Jah has a long long way to go if he wants to become an all star caliber player and on a winning team.

My other concern is that I haven't seen to many plays that involved both bigs...maybe chemistry and personnel is a factor. I hope to see some of that later in the future.

Either way, I've been watching Saric analysis vids and he seems to be a player who will fit nicely with the two bigs as a backup stretch 4. Even though he's not athletic, he is a smart defender, good passer and can stretch the floor.

Now that we have Stauskas and Covington back we should be able to at least compete. Also, I would like to see how Marshal pans out...he and TJ McConnell will make an interesting PG combination (I'm really hoping for an upgrade soon). Also Wroten as a sixth man will be great to have back.

Our two bigs had solid games last night. I can't wait to see them flourish. They are truly something special in their own ways. I think if we trade Embiid for an all-star caliber player we will be just fine (even if Embiid has the better career).

Jah and Noel seem to have good work ethic, they don't seem to have any attitude problems and are coachable. those are the biggest question marks for Embiid.

To be honest, I think our best scenario would be #2 pick and get ingram.

Simmons seems like a great talent, but I just can't see him reaching his potential unless he is in a system with the right personnel around him. That personnel is not in Philly.

With Jah, Noel, maybe Embiid, and Dario all coming in next year, the pain is too clogged up for the lineup to work. We would definitely have to move two of those pieces.

Ingram on the other hand, he can fit right away at either the three or 4 with Covington and Ish. Ingram shoots 40% from beyond the arch. Yes, he is a lot more raw, but that's why the Sixers hired coach brown and the philosophy of the franchise is to develop young talent.

One or two of the three bigs are moving sooner or later.

I'm kind of disappointed that the Jah/ Noel front court is not working out. WCS and Cousins found a way to make the front court work beautifully and that gives me hope that Jah/ Noel can also work out. Sure Cuz extended his range to the 3, but even without that the lineup could have worked out.

Inside the 76ers: Brown working on getting Noel and Okafor to thrive together

LOS ANGELES - By now, most 76ers fans have their preference.

Some think the team needs to keep Nerlens Noel at center and try to trade Jahlil Okafor. Others believe it's time to do the opposite. The popular belief is that two post players can't effectively coexist on the floor.

Brett Brown is not one of those people. The 76ers coach is far from ready to give up on playing the two 6-foot-11 post players.

But he sees what everyone else sees, and, as a result, Brown realizes their working together is a challenge. It's one that he's determined to tackle.

"If we can really get these guys comfortable on spacing with each other to give those shooters or Ish Smith the driving lanes, it's one of those 'have-tos' that we touch every single day," Brown said.

Brown is looking at four areas: How do Noel and Okafor space if a ball goes to a post? If one of them goes to a middle pick-and-roll, where's the other? If one of them goes to a sideline pick-and-roll, where's the other? And then, how do they space on a normal drive-and-dish?

"How do you get spacing . . . in those four areas," Brown said. "And if you can just make it pristine, perfect, then the space that those two can create will let everybody coexist.

"It's a challenge."

A major one, at that, considering they haven't been able to do it.

For a while, the popular belief was that it was a result of Noel's regressing. Then the Sixers reacquired Smith, a point guard, from New Orleans on Christmas Eve. Two days later, Noel, who had been playing power forward, started at center against the Phoenix Suns while Okafor missed the first of two games with a sore right knee.

Suddenly, we realized that Noel hasn't regressed at all. He's just less comfortable and less active as a power forward with Okafor on the floor.

Noel had elevated his game over the last four contests, going into Saturday night against the Clippers, as the starting center while playing with Smith. Noel started at center the first two games because of Okafor's absence. Because of his stellar play in those games, he remained there even though the Sixers went to a small-ball lineup in the next three, including Saturday night against the Clippers. Noel had been coming off the bench in those situations before this road trip.

Before Smith returned, the 21-year-old Noel was averaging 9.8 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.4 steals, and 1.04 blocks. He averaged 16.7 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals, and 2.5 blocks in four games before Saturday.

Brown was asked whether he sees Noel staying at center.

"I think he's fluid," the coach said. "I think he's a free safety. He will go back and forth. It's going to be what's required on the night."

Two factors will play into Brown's decision.

"First . . . growing those two [as players]. And a very close second: How do you go win?" Brown said. "But it goes in that order. How do I grow my young guys? How do you go win a game?"

Defensively, Noel can do certain things that Okafor can't at center. However, Okafor has an offensive skill set not seen in an NBA rookie since Tim Duncan came into the league in 1997-98.

Okafor was averaging 17.3 points before missing the two games. His numbers have been down since returning in a reserve role in small-ball situations. But he has still been effective. The 20-year-old had 10 points and 10 rebounds in 20 minutes Wednesday night against the Sacramento Kings. Then Okafor finished with 12 points in 24 minutes against the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday.

Brown has the tough task of trying to make this work.

Ingram cool and I wouldn't be mad if we ended up with him..but I want Simmons..Kid looks special...I say Draft him and figure out the rest..

Sad thing about this season I haven't watched a single game..Had no idea you couldn't watch sixers game on direct t.v..switching back with the quickness next year.

But checking box scores and reading game logs I'm highly disappointed in the way both jah and Noel been playing together..
