another race thread: white privledge

Flamesuit on.....

Privledge is real in America but in this day an age....not an excuse.

Its late I got a headache. Nobody owes you anything in this world. Just how I feel. I make ppl look past my color.

If you are forced to compensate for your color, it sounds like you owe them something...

Truth. There was a thread on here not to long ago going into extreme detail about this. Gonna do some digging and see if I can find it. Long read but very worth it.
Let me know if you find it. I'd like to go through it.

He says it is a factor. He said it in the video.

He also admits that minorities have it rougher than other people in contemporary society.

I just don't get what you guys want him to say? He knows where his bread is buttered.
That's because he's not the type to admit he's wrong. It starts off with him saying that white privilege doesn't exist, then John Stewart breaks it down to him why it does, and even uses him as an example. He clearly contradicted himself. He says that it doesn't exist yet admits that folks of color have it rougher. That's the ******* privilege.

“Maybe you haven’t figured out that there’s no more slavery, no more Jim Crow, the most powerful man in the world is a black American, and the most powerful woman in the world, Oprah Winfrey, is black.”

How am I supposed to take someone serious when they say dumb **** like this?

Your'e missing the point......

You think they don't know their respective audiences?

Bill is THE man when it comes to political commentary. Just look at the ratings. Ya'll the ones giving him more pull than he deserves, ya'll comparing him to the Cornell Wests of the world, when ya'll should be comparing him to Jimmy Fallon.

Who the hell compared Bill O'Reilly to anybody even remotely similar to Cornell west? Show me a quote. I'll wait.

My guy uploaded vid about recent situation at his job with the white privilege and systematic racism going in there.

White People Getting Caught Calling Black People …:

Here's the thing though: do lower class white people have their own set of obstacles to overcome? Of course.  Do black people of similar status have those same exact obstacles AND a ton of others that the whites of similar status don't have to deal with as much (if at all)?  Absolutely.

It would be disingenuous to say that poor whites have it just as hard as poor blacks.

I'm white, if that matters.

I'm not denying anything you said in your post, because I agree with every point.

What I mean by class privilege is that Upper Class Blacks have it easier than Lower Class Blacks. Upper Class Whites have it easier than Lower Class Whites.

Do Whites have it easier than Blacks? Absolutely, no denying that by any means. All I'm saying it has become a bigger issue than just Black v. White.

They don't care how much money you have or don't have. End of the day you will still be discriminated against because of the color of your skin.

Where did I say skin color wasn't an issue?

You think anyone from Oprah's or Professor Gates' kids or immediate family members are going to have an issue getting into Harvard compared to Black people that live in the inner-city? And why is that? Because of the Class they are both in. Because of the Class they are in enables them to have connections to pull strings. Does a qualified Black child living in the inner-city have that privilege?

No it isn't a bigger issue...because even after you break it down...its still a black/white issue.

The very foundation of the country was BUILT on the oppression of black people, and everyone thinks because we've been "integrated" with everyone else that everything is better now and everyone has the same opportunities.

What does upper class black even mean? Upper class is considered having a median income of 200k+. That represents less than 1℅ of African-Americans. So explain to me how its an issue of classism when blacks are barely even visibile on one side of that equation?

I don't think he meant a bigger issue than black v white itself (its not black v white by the way), I think he's getting at the fact that money brings privilege to people who would otherwise not have it, like rich or wealthy minorities.

Evidenced by ability to skate easily on say drug and weapons charges, better overall treatment in general.

Though it is a very, very small minority of our people who fit into this category, the evidence is there.

I'm confused...is financial power the only example of white privilege? Because we have a **** ton of examples ( especially in business) of how it isn't.

I think my overall point is that people need to stop trying to tap dance away from the fact that it is still us vs them...not on all levels...but on many.
Many of you would love to push this "we're all in this together" fantasy. The reality is that nothing EVER really gets away from its foundation...so what's going on America as far as race goes...isn't going away until its foundation is completely fractured.

This thread isn't about class privilege!!!

It's about white privilege

Financial power is not the only example of a white privilege. It seems you're lumping things together somewhere in there.

While it is technically still us vs them (us as minorities, them as the system), and I fully agree that is the MAIN issue that WE need to deal with, the undeniable rise of classism within this country needs to be addressed also.

We aren't here by choice and we're not leaving anytime soon. ALL of the disenfranchised peoples of America need to fix these issues together to build a better quality of living for everyone here, and for our children and their children.

We're choosing battles but have no real strategy for war. The system is attacking the population from all angles. We as black people cannot save ourselves while we're within this ****** up system. Period.

So we either gotta pull that exodus, or we gotta get as many like minded people of all races united as possible to bring about that change Barry was tombout.

This is such BS and you know it  Many upper class white people view most low income white people as people who have fallen on hard times, while poor black and Latino people are called lazy, dumb, etc

I couldn't disagree with this more.

Thank you, sir.

All Stewart had to ask Bill was if White privilege does not exist, would you then have a show?

Imagine a Black man having a nationally televised show, spouting opinions and then being as confrontational as O'Reilly.

I don't like the term "White Privilege", I would say it's more like "Class Privilege".
Im co-signing this. Most  "Upper Class" white ppl will treat a poor white person with as much disregard as they would a poor black person.

white privilege has NOTHING to do with how you treat someone from a different class. it is about the ability to go through society with minimal push back.

If you feel uncomfortable with "white privilege" than we can call it "power privilege". but guess what? old white people still run this country.

If you were given a head start, would you forfeit it? I think not...

America runs from its history in order to never to own up to it.

dont think this was directed at me, but i'll answer anyway. No i wouldn't. but i also wouldn't ignore the fact that i did get a head start. i wouldn't have an "if i did it, so can you" attitude.
