You See Sneakers, These Guys See Hundreds Of Millions In Resale Profit

dudes would camp out and wait in line for some $200 chancletas if they were limited and had a swoosh/jumpman logo

I can't see this hobby slowing down anytime.

Nikes bottom line would hardy suffer if the buying & selling in the collectible sense just suddenly stopped or slowed down

Nike has the hype down to a science only thing that's missing is nike to directly tap into that resell market
its good for nike in the way people are into value but that leads to more nickel and dime resellers

this is the only part nike so far has not got into and don't know its even worth it for nike to step in the reselling business

raising the box price of kicks really
doesn't put a dent into it

Exactly.

Their control of "bots" and multiple orders along with restocks...they know what they're doing for sure.

I do not know what may happen, but just like with Hip Hop culture, I never thought that something like this that began with B Boys and B Girls back in the mid to late seventies, would grow into what it has become. It is not even about being able to play ball, or even using the shoes for which they were intended anymore.

How Nike has overpowered every other sneaker company through Micheal Jordan's excellence, is nothing short of genius in the realm of marketing.

The reselling phenom is something that Nike currently feeds, as it is free advertising for them. Just like with the rioting on Christmas day over the XI's, Nike will say, nor do anything to stop it. This is what keeps Nike at the top of the food chain, and I am certain that other companies would take that sort of following in a heartbeat.

We've yet to see what Kanye will bring to the table for Adidas, as we all know, that will be instant ad buzz for the three stripes. So if there is anything that will cause a shift, then piercing the bubble that Nike enjoys in the reselling arena, it will have to begin as a rumble from within what is considered the culture, creating a climate that will take the focus off of what is currently popular.

Perhaps the bubble will not burst, but maybe a shift as to what people desire.

People have been waiting for the bubble to burst for a good 5-6 years now. I think that the bubble won't burst simply because kids are starting to get into buying shoes at the age of 13. The cycle will just keep going.

agreed

i actually made a thread few years back now about "sneaker bubble"

has yet to happen

People paying $200 plus for shoes is not logical or sustainable. I don't care who wears them or who made them. Let's be serious this isn't something people need and in time folks will realize that. Just wait for the economy to slow down some more.

I been hearin that forever too. Ppl will always have screwed up priorities. Nike will flourish forever.

I honestly don't even care about shorting Nike it's the retailers like Finishline that I look to pounce when this happens. Those stores suck.

Nike as a whole should be ok since they're developing technologically.

Indeed.

$200 for sneakers is not much nowadays, considering how much the accompanying gear, ie HBA, Pyrex, etc. sell for.

I was at the local Barneys weeks ago for an hour, chatting up with the SAs I know. They carried that trash now since it's popular and they were moving. Pieces were being sold right there on the spot. We're talking $500 for a screen printed hoody here.

What folks don't get is that this is a WORLD WIDE event, and social media only helps out. I know quite a few kids and even dudes my age (late 20s) from the homeland who have no issue shelling out $1k for the newest general release. Brands like Zanerobe and Publish only help fire the movement that much more.

It's not going anywhere.

this world has 7 billion people+, if only 20% of that has the interest/money to buy these "unnecessary goods", brands are fine. what you guys don't realize is how many rich/well off people there are in this world.

Also how many people spend their entire paycheck on a pair of jordans. Lol this bubble wont pop, 10 years from now these threads will stlll be made on NT.

You people need to realize that global growth is slowing and will only continue to get worse. Too many countries have too much debt. Europe is on the verge of collapsing economically. When these issues become more serious spending gets reigned in. You won't be spending 200-1000 for sneakers when you need that money for food and to pay actual bills.

Every bubble has its kool aid drinkers. Keep sipping and believing this is normal.

johnny, you bring up a valid point. people may scale back, but i don't believe it will be a large enough percentage to burst the bubble. like someone else mentioned, social media plays a huge role as well. everyone wanting to floss online with the newest/coolest/hype products that just release, so that they can say they own it too. we live in a society that is all about satisfying our wants in the present, no one really thinks about the future anymore. YOLO mentality.

I don't see this sneaker "bubble" bursting anytime soon either. There is too much money made globally off of older and newer models alike. Everyone now has a preference when it comes to sneakers. Nostalgists can buy up all of Nike and JB's past offerings and modernists have today's athletes/entertainers as well.

I'm at a point in my life where I just want to enjoy what I've already collected over the years and I surely don't need any new sneakers as much as I appreciate them. But for every person like me getting out of this collecting phase, there is a truckload of new sneakerheads who will be there to hand Nike and other companies their money.

So as long as there is a demand for it, resellers will exist in this "culture".

This issue has been discussed on NT for years also bro. I was part of those threads also.

Im at a point now of just living life. Give no damns. The day I can't eat good anymore I don't wanna be on this earth anymore.

You realize the only reason **** hasn't hit the fan yet is intervention from central banks. If not for the fed and ecb we'd be in some real trouble right now. And conversely because of their policies we are still vulnerable to a far greater economic calamity. This **** takes time. You need to have a macro viewpoint.

you're in a small percentage of people that actually know whats going on behind the scenes. the general public usually takes life at face value and just live to fulfil our desires on a daily basis. even with the wake up call of the financial crisis of 2008, people have already forgotten. people always don't deal with matters until it's own their plate. until then, it's YOLO for the vast majority. the future is a given, so people need to live for the present is their excuse.

after most of their customers spend all of their money of those "remastered" joints next year,

they wont have ish to spend on the next year when the price hits damn near 200 bucks a pair.

im just waiting for the black infrared 6's, and maybe if some nice pair of 1's come out later, but as far as all these other gimmicky shoes i cant mess with.

I remember the days when it was 4 pairs a month, now it's 1 pair a year for me

Teens have always had and always will have disposable income.
