I am more than a benchmark to what's cool in Hip-Hop.

Does this happen to anyone else?

Dear non-blacks,

I am not a racist, in fact my best friend is white. But please stop looking to me as the benchmark of "what's cool" in predominantly black genres of music.
Golf is predominantly white, however Tiger Woods still dominated in the sport, imagine if people kept asking him does he play basketball how that would make him feel as black person? Or imagine if the only stimulating thoughts that were manifested in his presence was "I wonder if he can dunk?" That's how I feel when I'm somewhere and music is playing. Sure I'm a Jay-Z and  Ice Cube fan. Sure I know who Nas is, De La Soul, Kanye West, Pharcyde, Souls of Mischief. Prodigy is one of my favorite emcees, so is Sheek Louch and the rest of the LOX.

But here's what I can't stand, why when John Newman's Love Me Again comes on in public I can't enjoy its musical genius? Why can't I smile and share a moment with the woman I'm with while Charli XCX "Boom Clap" is playing in a bar with everyone else? Why can't I bust a move to Echosmith's "Cool Kids"? How come when I throw a song from Coldplay on in the jukebox everyone is like:

But when I walked into the place, a song like Maroon 5's Animals  is playing and everyone is like:

But then maybe something like Kid Ink's Show Me comes on and I bust move and everyone is like:

....how come I just can't enjoy music and good times universally like everyone else?

I don't care what color your skin is... I don't care if you're a girl... I don't care if you're a 5 yr old kid in a wheelchair wearing glasses...

If you're throwin' Coldplay on the jukebox, I'm punching you in the face.

Have you ever LISTENED to Coldplay?
Sounds like you hang around crappy people.
This may be true ...they're everywhere.

Maybe you need more black friends? (coming from a white guy) haha

I know I don't do this to my black friends because I'm usually more knowledgable on rap than them

They gave you that look because Coldplay is terrible. You like terrible music.
Subjective at best ...define "terrific" music, if you will.
Coldplay is one of the most overrated bands of our generation. Right there with U2.
I have an affinity for both bands ...I like their outlook on life expressed in their music.

In My Place is a classic though

Of course it's subjective, it's all jokes dude, don't take it to heart.

But next time you're in a public space, maybe just have a bit of consideration for other people -You wouldn't fart in an elevator and start "wafting" it towards people's faces with your hands... because it's rude and offensive... so why would you put Coldplay on the jukebox

Ugh, that's actually one of the ones I hate the most

Coldplay was used as an example, but how does that change anything? People were JAMMIN' to these songs before I get in the place, and seem to jam after I leave to the same songs, including Coldplay. My thing is why are people putting me in a box to the point it's odd for me to like anything outside of Hip-Hop, R&B or Top 40.

...yet they can put on Lil Wayne 6 Foot 7 Foot and go H.A.M. without judgement, or Gwyneth Paltrow can dance to N's in Paris and Nas cosigns her.....NAS!
