Americans taking fewest vacation days in four decades
Where do you live? Those sound like weekend trips, not staycations. I thought Staycation are when you do stuff close by to your house.
Anyway I agree that people need to take their leisure time more serious and take weekends trips like you're doing.
But people still need to be taking extended vacations, nothing recharges the batteries like not having to worry about a damb thing for 9 days.
I live in NJ between AC, Philly and NYC. I thought Staycations were some where within driving distance.

I have 3 weeks left and lose them at the end of the year.
There is no way I will be able to take them.
Every time I request days off I am met with intimidation, shame, questioning of my work ethic and the phrase "if your REALLY think you need to?"
Couple that with there being no one to absorb my workload and taking a vacation is a burden.
Just writing this makes me sick of myself. But the reality is I've got bills a mortgage and a kid… I need my job.
The hell with that!

It's all accumulated every pay check.
I also take time instead of money on Holidays and I can also choose comp time when I work overtime.
So yeah, I make sure to enjoy my family and life outside of work!

my bosses are great about giving me time off if i request but the only time i ever take it is if i need it...
i work early 6a-2p (sometimes earlier if i feel like it) and can run whatever errands or go to any appointments during afternoons...
but yea, a large chunk of my cash is going towards something else for now and my vacation would be spend just sitting around (which i hate) so i guess id rather just go to work to at least feel like I'm doing something (even though i feel like I'm doing nothing there as well)...guess id rather do nothing at work, instead of doing nothing at the spot...

As of right now, I have 283 hours of PTO, or, 7 weeks.
I've already taken 3 vacations this year, still have 283.
I get 7.39 every two weeks. I could literally take a day off every two weeks all year, and barely make a dent in my 283. Would take me somewhere around 265, give or take a couple.
And my ceiling is 288, meaning I have to take a day off in the next week or so just to keep accruing.
As of right now, I have 283 hours of PTO, or, 7 weeks.

I also get around 7. But I also have bonus, comp, personal and professional days to kill.
Anytime, I work more than 80, I have the choice to use time or money.

With that said I'm definitely gonna squeeze in all my vacation days before the year ends. I only took one day from Jan to August (and that was to move) because I was tryna to be about that New employee, hard worker life. Man **** that, labor day came around an I felt like I was gonna cuss any and everybody out. Use your vacation time bros it ain't worth keeping it.

My and my lady just take one vacation a year. Honestly because we are trying to stack up for multiple things so a vacation would do more harm than good for us right now

Damn son. The pay gotta be good or the other benefits or something. I got 30 days a year starting off. You can't even take a vacation if you get sick too often

Nah pay ain't eem that good (relatively speaking).
First job outta college, trust me after I get my year in I'll be on the lookout for something better.
Luckily I don't get sick so I get to use all my days

I get needing a job but if I were in your shoes I would take the 3 weeks all at once, serious.
Your work provides them for a reason, they can find someone else to take up the workload. Talk to your boss and explain you really don't want to lose any vacation so you want to take it and you have been busting your *** all year and deserve it. They can't touch you for taking time they are giving you to take.

As my father would say "If I die tomorrow, they'll find someone to replace me and do my work the next day". The world isn't going to implode if you go on vacation, Hell, even the president goes on vacation.

I don't see why I need a vacation when I haven't accomplished anything much. I will take a vacation once I set out on my goals and reach new plateau's and have completed a task and or objective I have set out.

This is a great mindset to have man, but you take vacations because they're a perk that you EARN. Everyone is entitled to a break that they earn, IMO.
