Jordan Retro 1 High “Laser” aka Custom Lasers Thread

sorry for the late update work been pain and this week coming up is gonna suck so ill try to work on these a bit but looking grim. 

anyways i recommend if any of you guys are planning on doing this DO NOT!

 start with the sole dye its a pain in the butt gets everywhere i re taped the mid-sole its my mistake on my part but no biggie i know for next time  lol, so  this is what i have done so far

sorry for the bathroom pic lol best lighting in there, 2nd coat looking good. if you can guess why i left the middle part white between the swoosh then you know whats gonna be the end result of the shoe.

I when with the more matte look, i think it looks better than the shiny finish but i also haven't added the finisher so might get a bit more shiny. 

the 3rd coat should remove all the white dots and any brush marks and imperfections, also guys be patient with the coats, don't just put a bunch of paint at a time and smear it everywhere. use even strokes and small amount of paint remember your not trying to cover the entire area in one shot take your time.

 if you get some paint on the mid-sole  just use a suede eraser knocks it right off but do it at the end i haven't don't it yet but i try to be a gentle as possible with a small brush and i still got some paint on the mid sole

 as you can see below needs to be cleaned up ill do it at the end,  as for the wings logo its gonna be a pain when its time to put the black paint on it to be honest not really looking forward to it. after the 3rd coat i might  hit the swoosh or the toe box let see what happens.

Question for those that have done extensive customizing and worked with Angelus. How durable is the leather paint when it comes to wear, ceasing and cracking? 1s crease all over, does the paint stay in tact after tons of wears and even cleaning? Thanks in advance.

For me it's very durable, I've only had to repaint when I didn't do a good job at first. When I get a chance I'll post a picture

Yeah i thougjt about going with the ones with the blue swoosh but i when with the released ones.

The regular blue dye They dont have any other blue i believe, ahh thanks for the heads up on the logo
 
I've worked with Angelus paint numerous times, but don't have any experience with their dyes.

If you were going to do a gum sole with these, what leather dye would you buy?

What is the process for dying the tongue and sockliner? The painting seems easy, but that aspect of the customization seems like it would be far from easy.

Go back a few pages i posted the tounge and sock liner tutorial i found. Its basically paint and a fabric painting medium mix.

As for the dye not sure how to get gum color maybe brown? But remember there gonna look a bit translucent

Also, does it look like you'll retain any reflectivity to the 3M swoosh or is that a goner once you paint over it with the black?
 
Heads up - this was just posted on Facebook in the last hour. Lasers for $109.97 at Jimmy Jazz in-store (their website still has them listed at $185 unfortunately). 
 
 i did not think i was gonna be up this late lol, first of all thanks for all the comments glad you guys like it, also if your thinking of doing this your self do it, I'm not gonna lie its been alot of fun working on this so far really liking how its coming out. 

i been working on the left shoe only,  its a bit of a pain to paint the sides and get under the extra bit of leather, I'm trying to be as on point as possible, it took me about 1hour  to get this side done trying to be careful with the edges and making sure i cover the little areas with the first coat of black 2nd should just be to cover anything  i missed and the last coat should be to perfected  ( hopefully)  this is all still on the first coat of black so theres a bit of imperfections on them.

I'm not sure but i think there is reflective finisher again i might be wrong I'm gonna look it up and see, might wanna hit the swoosh with it, see if i keep the 3m look and still be colored black. 

you can pull the leather a bit to get really close to the edges and not get paint on the white example below also pull the leather back to get underneath to some areas that don't get hit by paint. 

still have to work on the right side lol
