couple problems i have

1. why do these fellas feel that they always have to go in on black people to other white people? LIke, famb, go on Tom Joiner or Rickey Smiley... i never understand why folks use white driven platforms to **** on other black people.

2. a lot of that "street cred" stuff is synonymous with poor folks. not once was i ever criticized for talking a certain way or making good grades coming up.

He makes sense about people condemning others for success.. but from speaking with my non black friends, its not a black thing...its a "i'm jealous of you" thing.

the reason why black dudes go broke is b/c a lot of them never knew money management coming up b/c they were poor as ****...

the same w/ lotto winners... it's not just a black thing, and i hate that it's perpetuated like that. look at the amount of lottery winners that go broke...

i can bet money if you look at prior income to wealth, it's directly correlated w/ how fast they lose their money... you have SOME outliers.

I think the russell wilson thing was ****** up... he seemed like a good dude, and those dudes in the locker room may have been kinda lame...

someone made a good point about quarterbacks having to make an effort to connect w/ their players... he said he guarantees that drew brees or Peyton Manning may not do w/ their receivers and running backs do... but they found a way to connect w/ them... and he said he thought that russell wilson wasnt trying to do that.

So your main n issue is he is telling this to a white outlet?

But we know what he said is the truth

He's right though.
And he was asked about athletes, mainly the Seahawks Russell Wilson, majority of the athletes in the NFL are black.

and why tom joyner or ricky smiley, they wouldnt ask him about what he knows, sports.

A lot of generalizations by Chuck, and him being from the deep south i'm sure he experienced it, but i'm not cool with him acting like it's prevalent. To an outside audience who WILL and HAVE ALWAYS taken the negative side of the story and ran with it. My biggest issue with these guys like Chuck and Bill Cosby, I don't see or hear a lot about them working in the community to make it better and change this way of thinking (i'd love to be wrong here, if there's info, post it). They wan't to speak out like they're "black leaders", but all they do is criticize, that's not what a leader does.

majority of wall street bankers that rob people blind and CEOs that are living on corporate welfare are white...

is it a white problem? or just greed that anyone would have if they got in that situation?

my problem is that people try to pin stuff on black people when in similar circumstances, anyone else would act similarly.

So what side does Charles Barkley think he's on? Because I never looked at him as being on the intelligent side.

you're trying to compare a financial/corporate america issue to a cultural issue...
and he was asked about Russell Wilson, a black quarterback, being called not black enough. You'd rather him not answer the question based on his knowledge I'm guessing, and try to bring up something he isn't versed in?

Also I'm surprised some of you all are expecting an intricate over analyzed comment on something from Chuck

read the article

dude it took me a minute to find that. yes Bill Cosby and Charles Barkley do a lot for the community

This is bigger than the locker room because this goes on in society and is a huge problem. Rather than celebrating successes, you have folks being ostracized by their PEERS for not being black enough, being a cornball, etc. I mean, what's the end game here?

I knew it was only a matter of time before Russell Wilson was subjected to this BS.

Some generalizations but Chuck is definitely talking about his experience and other shared experiences by ppl in his stratosphere as far as successful black ppl so I'd say there's definitely is some truth to it.

He's right about that street cred nonsense. It's not true for all black ppl obviously but to say he's nor right wouldn't be true.

As for it being told to white ppl on a white person's show, it's usually white ppl that want to know about these things. Fascinated by black ppl and their culture and all that.

Is the reason that White people become overtly racist and stupid, and broke, due to white people holding them back as well?

I mean, American White trash is America's dirty little secret, right Charles?

I mean white people are the only people who claim to be real americans if they are truly uneducated, not giving into the opinions of those liberal educated elitists.

Nope Chuck is right.

Poor rebuttal, different groups clearly do not face the same problems. You seem under the impression that particular problems are unversal when in fact it's quite the contrary.

Using white people in the way you just did is simply a needless distraction..

There's truth to what he says but he has said some questionable things in the past and that's probably why OP thought what he said this time is on the borderline side. I can understand why also.

I think the problem is...when does it start or stop being the truth and is moreso an attack or speaking from ignorance. With statements like these, I've come to realize that there can be a very thin line between the two and that's why we have trouble talking or listening to these type of issues.

Using stereotypical imagery in order to prove a point, as Barkley did, opens the door for more stereotypical comparison.

His commentary was non scientific, and simply an opinion. Black people are not monolithic, therefore Charles's comments were ill informed, and way off base. There are thriving communities within the african diaspora that are doing well, incredibly well, and that is never spoken of due to the stereotypical imagery that is portrayed and preferred throughout the media, then echoed by people like Charles Barkley.

You won't hear truly intelligent people speak this way, and that is why they went and got Charles Barkley.

Is his opinion wrong?

African Americans would be much better off if we supported each other. We so quick to hate each other. Charles spoke the truth.

If you don't fit the sterotypical black standard, your own black people quick to throw out how "different" you are.

Yes, his opinion is wrong. All Black people do not do anything, because Charles Barkley doesn't know ALL Black people.

Is Barkley down in Ferguson supporting the Brown family? Are Black people in Ferguson supporting one another?

That answer is a resounding yes.

So who is Barkley talking about, some idiots in that locker room?

If so, that is who he should be talking about, not ALL Black people.

Not necessarily disagreeing with you (are Barkley), but you fail to address that your first (knee jerk) response was a very misguided one, IMO
