Which athlete "owns" your city?

Kobe, but Magic Johnson might be all time most beloved as far as players. I remember when I was in Phoenix it was Steve Nash, the guy was a local hero.

All Time and Overall:

Magic Johnson (Most beloved Laker ever, big philanthropist and involved with the Dodgers now)
Jerry West (Great player, Champion in '72 and architect of Showtime and Shaq-Kobe)
Tommy Lasorda (Longest tenured LA Dodger, decent player, legendary manager)

At Various Times:

Kareem (UCLA Bruin and then 14 great years with the Lakers)
Wayne Gretzky (The other great thing to see at the Forum)
Shaq (Threepeat, 20 playoff series wins in 8 years, very likeable)
Pete Carroll-Reggie Bush- Matt Leinart (2005 was a crappy calendar year in LA Pro Sports)
Kobe (never as beloved as Magic or Shaq but widely regarded as the best Laker player ever)

You Cannot Forget:

Vin Scully and Chick Hearn (Dodger and Laker announcers, respectively. Those two may be the most beloved and iconic figures in Los Angeles sports because they have given us decades of memories and their extremely long tenures let them transcend generations of LA Sports fans)

Pretty much

Winston Salem = CP3

Josh Howard get the south side love tho

Chris got everything else

Really there is no one for Atlanta. Years ago it was easily Vick without question. Now nobody sticks out.

Russ the gawd.

If language was no barrier it would be King Felix dude loves Seattle.

Bumgarner is hot right now but Steph took it from Posey in these past two years or so.

steph never had it. to me, bay area has always been baseball/football

panda is loved out here, but if his english was better, he would be even more marketable in my opinion

madbum now, and going forward. timmy lincecum isnt the same, and cain was never as big. dude is the face of the team along with buster

Nah, you can make a case for Steph having it for a bit. Around the time he got the keys to the city.

Honestly in NYC I can't think of anyone other than Jeter who is even in contention... They definitely need a star here in something.

that's because they were announcing the sf arena
them G's brought a title to a city that never had a WS. now they got 3.

In LA its Kobe.

Where I live in the Redondo Manhattan Beach area I would say its Dustin Brown or Quick or any random LA Kings star. Those dudes are beloved in the beach city area since they live around here on top of win regularly.

In NYC for a little was David Wright but obviously second only
To jeter. Wright was loved in queens but the mets ain't **** and therefore it didn't matter.

I cannot stand David Wright. I was so upset when I heard about that new hefty contract they gave him last year, or 2 years ago.

He's been worthless since the departure of Reyes, Delgado and Beltran. He's not capable of being the guy in your lineup. He's only good when he has good hitters around him. Every since the homer derby is career went downhill. The strikeouts, the fear to get beaned in the head. This was a man at one point was a guarantee to battle back from an 0-2 count and either draw a walk or get a base hit. Now he gets to two strikes and its a guaranteed out. I miss Jose.
