OFFICIAL STOCK MARKET AND ECONOMY THREAD VOL. A NEW CHAPTER

So Tesla was a swing and a miss on earnings I see. Musk on the offense right now to calm investors and analysts.

And yet it's trading sideways AH. I was going to pick up some OTM puts to hedge my shares, but luckily I didn't. Would've been a complete waste of money.

Yeah I havent read into their earnings report too much, just saw the headlines and guidance. Wonder how the next weeks will look for them. Trending up with the 50k delivery promise?

I generally dislike TSLA. Musk has the vision, but the execution is terrible.

This is not to mention the empty promises and preference towards storytelling vs. actual results.

For some reason people are holding onto their Tesla shares. I want to be a tesla bear so bad but it just isn't playing out that way right now

I believe in their long term goals, but there's nothing that's screaming "buy" to me right now. I feel like the shares are gonna tumble at some point, maybe when they miss delivery deadlines for the Model 3.

I wish Hyperloop was part of Tesla instead of SpaceX.

I do like the Tesla battery aspect of Tesla though.

Either way, holding my shares in a Roth for the long haul.

Edit - Up 100% on my Amazon shares as of today :pimp:

Congrats on the amzn bro

How about SAEX though?!!! I caught 2.5 points on small position but my oh my crazy

I'd be inclined to nibble some against 25 if I was a gambling man. If it looks like a pump and smells like a pump chances are it'll be dumped so always have an exit strategy and a place you're willing to sell (for a gain and a loss).

I feel like a piker. Caught another 3.25 points off SAEX today. Low float mania is crazy. We all know how this story ends though

Rumors that Alibaba might be exploring buying NFLX. Would certainly be interesting, definitely could help their expansion into Asia, at the very least.

I don't think Reed's gonna sell.

Whichever bank does the advising on this defense proposal is gonna make $$$ though.

Yeah BABA shot down the rumors. Which is good imo. I trust Reed and Co.'s long term vision with the company, and the more control they have, the better.

Yeah I would roll it over. I know the temptation is there to get the cash now but you have to build your base for the future. It's tough investing in companies for the long haul 10, 20, 30+ years for me because trends and technology changes so often and companies can be left behind. An index fund would be a good idea like based mentioned
Thanks will my money grow a lot in 10, 20, 30 + years just sitting in an IRA?

If you invest in a S&P 500 fund you will make money long term. Even after the big crashes the market has recovered and kept the uptrend intact

At some point here I feel like I need to grab some GOOG, and maybe some FB, but after that, I'm just going to start loading up on IVV.

Spy looks like it's breaking out. Stop at 217.50 could be fine maybe or at the bottom of that consolidation it's perking out of.

Exposure to the S&P 500 should be baseline in any portfolio.

I've been reading about how small cap value funds have outperformed the S&P 500 index over the long run, albeit with greater volatility. I'm a generally passive investor with the vast majority of my funds already in an S&P 500 ETF (well over 10k), would you consider putting additional funds into a small cap value fund or continue to play it safe and just feed the relatively safe S&P 500 index? I am, of course, talking about long term investing.

I'm in my young 30s so I feel like I can definitely tolerate the volatility of the fund, but just wanted to hear what you guys thought.

So in short, ETFs are basically investing in a CATEGORY of goods? (Tech, Bio, etc....); so what helps you decide when to invest in which category? Time of year?
