taylor swift just saved the music industry

It's called an upward trajectory, she was already on it and it was an unstoppable behemoth that was rapidly gathering pace long before Kanye. If you're going to cite the VMA incident as a reason for her gaining sales & fans, then surely you also have to factor in her losing millions of sales & fans by the fickle One Directioners who were buying her albums but then shunned her after she split with the singer... or the Katy Perry fans who did the same after their "beef".

There are always these little "incidents" and "dramas" that pop up, but the trajectory has always been the same for Taylor since day 1... just because you didn't know about it, doesn't mean it wasn't happening.

Did the Kanye incident ever so slightly raise her profile amongst a certain demographic who otherwise hadn't heard of her at that point? ...yes.

Did it make her the global mega star she is today? ...not even in the slightest.

And yeah...

<That's bae #1 right there, so I have to defend her honour

What in the **** are you talking about?

The album that came out in 2008, Fearless has done 6.8 MILLION to date.

And I already posted this on the last page.

Fearless was an international breakthrough and commercial success for Swift. In the United States, it topped the Billboard 200 for eleven non-consecutive weeks, thus setting various records, including the longest chart-topper by a female country artist. On Billboard's Country Albums chart, the album logged a record 36 weeks at number one. With 5.2 million copies sold in 2009, the album became the year's best-seller, making Swift, 20 at the time, the youngest artist to have one.

The math is all there. She was MOVING units long before this. Album came out November 2008. VMAs was September 2009.

So you're incredibly wrong. Leave it alone. This ain't even a Kanye thread nor should it be. It's 2014. **** atta here

My goodness her label already said kayne gave her a boost, what is their too argue about

She only sold that many due to most being sold after the kayne drama thing.

I'm just saying the kayne drama made her super star popular which it did and her label and manager even admitted it. Her records sales increase after that due to millions of new fans finding out about her

The fact that you choose to continue to be as wrong as you are is astounding. The term "stuck on stupid" comes to mind.

She had already done close to 4 million albums before the VMA's. Is that "most being sold after the kanye drama thing" to you?

The week after the VMA's she sold an extra 12,000 albums. The week after, she was down 10,000 again. From 32k to 45k then down to 34k.

That's it. We're talking about 12,000 for an album that did 5.2 million that year. That's significant to you? And the sales boost last ONE week. Before the sales started going up again for the holidays.

So no, she did not sell most of those albums after the Kanye incident. It's actually the opposite.

What other numbers can I throw out here to show you how wrong you are?

Multiple people in here have spelled it out for you. She performed on that award show. Not because of Kanye. She won an award on that show. Not because of Kanye.

Did she get a sales spike because of the "incident"? Yes. Do sales pretty much always spike after your appear on an award show and win awards? Yes.

Does any of that matter in 2014? No.

Did she gain some awareness among some people that may not have know who she was? Sure. Are those people listening to her in 2014 because of Kanye West? No.

So that fact that some of y'all would even bring him up is ridiculous. And kind of pathetic to be honest.

Players gonna play play play play play play,

Haters gonna hate hate hate hate hate hate,

I'm just gonna shake shake shake shake shake shake,

Shake it off, Shake it off! wohoohoooooo!

Ye could probably use the Tswift stimulus package right about now tbh
I don't even think it'd work in reverse.   I can't see many people jumping to Kanye's defense or supporting his projects to as a result of some alignment between them

for several reasons...

If Kanye did this for her, he needs to figure out how to do it for himself

Damn...

Are you implying that Kanye West is not one of the biggest artists right now.

Not disagreeing with you just curious to how you feel about his situation.

Not implying that at all.

He is certainly one of the bigger artists in music right now. Unfortunately, it's not always because of his actual music.

And he's not moving units like this.

Moreso, that was a reaction to his legion of male groupies invading this thread. His name doesn't even belong in here.

It's 2014. The effect he MAY have had on Taylor Swift's already massive sales lasted about 2 weeks. 5 years ago.

So if he, in their warped little minds, can have such a profound effect on her sales today, then he should figure out how to do the same for himself.

You like nas and t swift?

8)

I respect most artists, acknowledge their strengths while being objective enough to acknowledge their weaknesses as well.

I'll show you how to do this son!

EDIT: People don't realize what a negative effect their "fandom/stanning" has. When your favorite artist feels like they can do no wrong, that's how they act.

They give you mediocre music. You still praise it. So they give you more.

And no one wins.

I didn't know she had a album out, I couldn't name you one Taylor Swift song.
And never heard of her til' Ye' did what he did.

^^^

Perfect response for this thread.

Didn't know Taylor until Kanye incident.

Yet didn't know she had an album out, so obviously didn't buy it.

And can't name a Taylor song.

That's quite the profound effect Kanye had on her career

I can't name a single Taylor Swift song, yet I'm sure I've heard them multiple times throughout the day. Of course, I can say the same about mainstream rap in general  *shrugs*

I'd love to hear of your vast knowledge of other young female pop/country singers since Tayler Swift flew under your radar

If I'm a fan of an artist I'll buy their music and not rely on Spotify. Can't blame her for wanting to make money.

So because you didn't hear about Taylor Swift that automatically means Kanye made her hot, no Kanye made her hot to you

What yall really should say is Kanye made Taylor Swift popping in the urban community because everybody else knew her

Don't listen to any of her music but I do respect her and she does seem like she would be a ******* blast to hang out with

She legit looks like she enjoys herself every time you see her. Repped for the video up there
