Movie in Theaters: Whiplash

One of my top favorites of the year. Simmons was fantastic along with Teller.

The only thing that had me calling bs was
When Teller's character is in a rush and he gets into an accident with a truck, he crawls out runs to the performance and starts playing. I know it is supposed to show how much will and determination his character has but come on now.

This may be my fav movie of all time. probably due to the fact my father was a drummer and I myself played drums growing up and love jazz music..perfect movie.

Give teller and JK all the awards man

WOW!

This movie was a-*******-mazing!

REALLY, REALLY dug this hell out of this. Work was shut down today, so I caught it on a bootleg that had been sitting around my gf's house and :wow: :x

That dude J.K. Simmons earned that Oscar. When he called ya boy out on the stage "what do you think I'm stupid?" I was like aw hell nah! It just got real.

Dope flick. :nthat:

^^^Yeah, love that ending. Didn't really know how they were going to end this film seeing how it was just a drummer movie but the way they edited that last solo just gives you a great feel of accomplishment. Definitely a top movie for me with just great acting even from the kid in the movie.

Interesting how some of the top movies this year were all about movies that sort of dive you into genre's that people don't normally know about from Broadway acting, wrestling and to drumming.

Solid movie.

I've played in a jazz band and have a friend who left to to study in NYC.

The competitive nature is ridiculous... but only because the teachers want to find the next Charlier Parker.

And Fury was damn good too.

Miles Teller has a bright future. So far he's been quality in 'Whiplash,' 'The Spectacular Now,' and 'That Awkward Moment.' Besides the mainstream 'Fantastic Four' and 'Insurgent,' keep an eye out for Teller in 'Bleed for This' and 'Get a Job' too.

J.K. Simmons killed his role as the villain perfectionist. Extracting more blood from the stone in his students.

i didnt even see jk simmons as a villain, more of a hero imo

the world needs more people like him, the standards are too low these days

I touched on that in my initial review in the movie thread. Is it wrong to want and expect more? Americans nowadays are soft, complacent, and satisfied with mediocrity. Not just limited to the musical world.

Thats the whole point of the film is his method is what got Teller to be great, though its obvious it depends on how your receive it.

And you all know if a teacher threw a chair at your head you be tossing it right back in real life lmfao

Caught this the other day and was pleasantly surprised, those who haven't seen it should catch it.

its easy for the average joe to watch it and think that simmons was overkill but you have to understand that 99% of people dont need someone like that in their life. its for that top 1% that wants to be great that needs that extra push to become legendary

I just seen this and it was an amazing movie :smokin

Acting, writing, pacing all top notch

-Brah you answer your own question, most people think Simmons was overkill because he was. If 99% of people don't need something that extreme, then it would overkill to expose the general public to something like that.

I mean JK's acts made one kid great, and made another so depressed he offed himself.

Plus tons of greats in every arena have been successful without something that extreme.

It is one thing to say we need higher standards, it is another to say we need psycho like this running around.
