It could also mean awakening in the sense that it's asleep if it's not being manipulated by force sensitives. It's obviously not meant to be taken literally. Come on bruh..

I don't think so, I'm sure that they want people to refer to this movie as "The Force Awakens" instead of Ep. VII, in the same way people say "A New Hope" or "Empire Strikes Back" instead of episode IV, and V.

Its not a big thing for me but I'm just a little bit attached to the numbering for nostalgic reasons. That's probably what they were going for but I've almost always referred to the specific films by their number and will probably continue to

People are really having a hard time coming up with a non-literal interpretation of the title.
