Saw this trending on Facebook today and I thought it was kinda odd.

Here's the article: http://7online.com/385500/

TL;DR: A cop dresses up as Donald Duck and tickets people who don't yield when he tries to cross the street.
Thread title pretty much said it all lol.

I'm actually in that area all the time and I ride my motorcycle through that crosswalk and I've never seen anyone trying to cross that particular street. This leads me to believe that it's primary goal is to generate revenue rather than keeping the people safe. What do you guys think?

This irks me so bad. They used to have a line up of 6 officers in motorcycles just waiting by my school.
Makes me think like "don't you guys have some serving and protecting to do"
haven't seen the video yet tho
had to post rant 1st lol

There are several traps like these in my area/city and it is most common on right turns. If you move your car when the pedestrian steps off the curb and/or hasn't reached the curb on the other side yet then you are screwed and there is no way of really fighting it. You literally have to wait for the pedestrian to cross the whole crosswalk and until his is actually on the curb before you could move, most fall for it because many moves once the pedestrian is of safe distance.

I know it's a trap because my friend lives nearby one and when we walked outside we pretty much saw the same guy crossing the street over and over again with a cop car or motorcycle just waiting for someone to make a simple mistake.

:smh:
Why not put a sign that says "Must yield to pedestrian ($500 fine)" Spell it out, not just the yield for pedestrian sign.

There is a street I drive on everyday near a school that has these crazy flashing lights automatically when people are crossing the street, very visible and can't really be mistaken. That combined with the police in this area are super strict, I make sure to check and slow down. Not trying to come out of pocket for something stupid like that.

(Highland Park, on Lovers Lane between Turtle Creek & Hill Crest for my Dallas peeps)

Sade :pimp:

not just the yield for pedestrian sign.

Pretty sure there is no sign at this intersection just flashing yellow lights. Easy 30k for the city/town.

"I'm a woman"

I see nothing wrong with this tactic. Some of those drivers straight drove right along side of donald duck when he was already clearly in the marked crosswalk.

Man they are not after they  money and the amount of tickets is no where near 30k/ They said a few dozen ticketed. Each ticket is $230. $230 *24= $5,520. factor in the cops pay for the day and hallowen outfit close to 1k...

as you can see they needed to do this because it was clear they werent stopping. And the women crying out, o im a women and he could harm me.. LOL somebody in a big duck suite, mid day busy traffic will harm you. heck they cant even fit in your car

Wrong! Not true.

CHP Officer Jon Sloat said the answer is that you can proceed once the pedestrian is not at any risk of being hit, even if he suddenly whirled around and headed back in front of your car.

“There’s nothing in the vehicle code” about waiting until the pedestrian has reached the sidewalk, he said. “You just have to yield to them” until it’s safe to proceed.

And Sonoma County Superior Court Commissioner Carla Bonilla, who runs the local Traffic Court, seems to agree.

“There is a case by case issue here. I do not think the person technically has to be up on the second curb for the car to then drive on. However, clearly the intent of the law is for the pedestrian to be out of harm’s way before the car leaves,” she said in a statement.

If you watch the entire video she said 130 people were ticketed around 2:13 :rolleyes

Not one single person was out there walking on the street in any of the shots aside from the cop

I don't understand the duck outfit...

Anyways, I don't really mind this... I walk every where, and I hate asshats who don't stop crosswalks... I've stood T crosswalks for 5 minutes before... **** em...

Well then tell that to the cops who are stopping and giving tickets to anyone who moves their vehicle before the pedestrian is on the curb.

best idea in this thread is definitely the YIELD TO PED $500 FINE sign

why does the littering fine always get the feature?

this feels like entrapment

It's a revenue machine, but it's not entrapment. All the drivers are breaking the law on their own volition.

true, but under the guise that no police are around. Like you are in fact a police officer, on duty, but you are dressed as something else to trick me. Knowing well that I would not make the turn had I had known you were there.

I use to drive there all the time.

It could be a troll job to get more bread. I'd like to see him try that in other busy streets close to GW like Fort Lee rd and Lemoine ave.
