Referring to your favorite teams as "we"....

Except I don't see people cheering and supporting businesses like they do sports teams

How about other forms of entertainment? People cheer and support music bands. Follow them around, scream and cheer at shows, they can easily represent a city or demographic. People don't 'we' them. Why not?

for those bothered by it -- are you bothered when someone who supports your favorite team uses "we" ?
I find it odd regardless of who does it.

Again most of my posts are in jest and just to play Devils advocate, but it is something I never do. But I've never criticized someone while conversing with them if they do it

There aren't teams, stadiums, or paychecks if "we" aka the consumer didn't fund any of it. These teams, players, and coaches, are certainly playing for popularity as well. I'd like to see how they'd react if they played in an empty stadium or knew no one was watching on television. "We" are certainly apart of the team. Players thank their fans like a running back thanks his o-line.

people who hop teams using "we" bothers me. people who make it a personal thing when their team beat my team so they think they are better than i am

I agree with this though.

I'm not big on the concept of using "we" when referring to teams I like but it doesn't bother me when others do it and I see why they do it.

Regarding the coaches op mentioned. I don't think the coaches would look at a fan saying that in a silly way. Those fans provide tons of support, create a home field advantage, and at times take their act on the road to support their favorite teams. They never played a single game nor worked for their favorite team, but for the reasons I mentioned above, have a connection to said team.

Yea, remember the Parade Nike had with the city to celebrate with all of their fans? Lol this is so ridiculous. But the same people want to say "we" when it comes to their college teams? The same teams they didn't play for? Let me guess....you paid tuition blah blah blah.

You can say we for th teams that represent the school you attended but not for the teams that represent the city you live in?

But we don't have the same loyalty for other entertainers like we do our favorite sports teams

i am not bothered but when i see the fairweather bandwagon fans it does get a little annoying
i guess, if you are really invested in your team, why not?. but for me, i dont use it even though i am a lifelong fan of the teams.

Are they? What I see are people not understanding how teams function as a representation of a location and people. Seems clear to me that saying 'we' is fair.

Pretty much my feelings on it, though I use we/they/them/(insert team name) all interchangeably

What made you a fan of these teams, the players you seen on the team, or were you forced to like that team at a early age by your adult surroundings or is that team from your city & you're just supporting them?

I just feel like the word we is a ego thing

"I bought a couple tickets & jerseys here & there now i have the right to say "we". Deal with it"

i know having a favorite team is just something to have a debate about because everybody else has one since its like a "culture" thing but saying we just tells me your ego is in it & the sport is more feelings than entertainment

That's what sports it all about. If I didn't have a personal rooting interest it just not entertaining enough to be heavy into it. Sorry your not stopping me from referring to the hawks as we

People sound stupid when they talk like that. You're not part of the organization.

But sports are all about ego. You talk trash to other fans cause of ego, you root for them to win the championship cause of ego, you have pointless endless debate on forums cause of ego. The only people who don't have ego when it comes to sport are the casual person who only watch sports as an event, i.e. Super Bowl, Final 4, etc.

Appears most aren't getting upset, just an annoyance it seems.

Edit - and I would find it odd for people that legit get angry about it as well

Upset or annoyed it's all the same. For a person to have some sort of vested interest on another person referring to a team as "we" seems petty and weird.
Like why would you be emotionally invested in something that has no correlation to you?

That's where I'm at with this, too. Doesn't make sense that this would elicit anything more than a mild annoyance. I think anyone would be more than annoyed would be worse than the people saying it to begin with.

You think upset and annoyed are same? You think someone's actions being annoying to you means you have a vested interest and are emotionally invested?
