NT Runners and Running Gear Thread

I run at night all through summer and winter in toronto. There is no need to spend ridiculous amounts of money on gear. During winter, compression pants under shorts, track pants or jogging pants. Compression top, then a thermal top, then one or two sweaters or a hoody depending on how cold it is. Compression gear is everlast brand from walmart. Two neck warmers from the doller store. Asics gel cumulus running shoes. Lastly, my phone and some earphones.

I'm guessing any Nike running shoes you like but in their Shield version?

For long distance running, I prefer more cushioning and the Pegasus and Lunarglides are my go to shoes. FOr quick sprints or short distances, I like Free Run 2 and Flyknit Free 5.0.
Short distances as in 1 - 3 miles? I already own the free 2, and if they are good for this distance I won't need kicks.

Always used heavier shoes with plenty of cushion. Kept shinsplints away and knees are still in great shape.

Come race day or anything 10k or below i would wear flats.

That said i need to catch up on the shoe games for running since its been a while.

.Frees are cool but i always get rocks stuck in em.

I hear good things about the adidas boost tech.

Meant to try the springblade but forgot to see if they dropped in price at all.

1-2 miles max, I mostly use it for purely sprints or HIIT runs. I used to use it for longer runs (5-8 miles) and I don't mind it since I liked barefoot feel but I just like more cushioning for distance.

With that said, not one shoe will work for everyone so it makes it difficult to say "this is what will work for you", we can only suggest what we like and then try it out yourself.

As someone mentioned before, if you could go to a true running shoe store please do so, they can measure you and check your pronation and find the perfect shoe for your feet and body type. Stores like Fleet Feet even lets you walk/run outside as you try on the shoes so you know it will work for you. I believe they also have a 30 days exchange policy in case the shoes just doesn't work for you in the long run (no pun intended). Everyone preference are different too, some like the barefoot feel while others may need a more stables or neutral cushioning then there are some who just want the lightest and least cushioning possible, you really have to figure out which one work for you so you don't hurt yourself in the future.

Best of luck!

I've tried the Springblades and it really feels like a gimmick, I don't think it really works. I also found it uncomfortable, felt like there is a metal or wooden bars underneath the insole where the plastic springblades are attaches and it just didn't feel right.

I really need to check out the new boosts, I know a few people who swears by them.

Just did my first winter run and it was brutal. It was pretty hard to breathe. Im pretty sure I was running at a much faster pace unintentionally just to try and keep warm and that back fired on me

Will be back at it again sometime this week

Wat do yall wear to run? (Kicks)
asics.. the noosa tri.. I overpronate slightly with my right leg (I have the 8s).. but I like these because of the lighter weight and not overly bulky

ran the la marathon in lunar racers, love them

they're on sale at finishline for a really good price.

nice thread OP

Ive been wondering about those.

And fuel bands.
the nike sport band was clutch for me when i was training for the la marathon....

it started glitching on me and wouldnt track my pace ( "00:00) after about a 6 months...i would run 3-4 times a week

ditched it and copped the fuelband se. only downside is it doesnt track pace like the sport band.

Does anybody have one of these  watches the Nike+ SportWatch GPS Powered by TomTom I have been using the ipod nike + app its not very accurate at all.

http://www.amazon.com/Nike-SportWatch-Powered-TomTom-Black/dp/B007L3O4BA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1416246125&sr=8-2&keywords=nike+gps+running+watch

I have the SportWatch and I love it. I had a sport band for a few years and then it died on me. The watch is cool because I like seeing my runs mapped after I plug it in to my computer.

Great thread, btw. I got into running about 5-6 years ago and I absolutely love it. It's a great way for me to clear my mind.

I run in free run 3's. My favorite were the 2's and I went through a few pairs...but I couldn't find the nike+ models anywhere after a while.

I have that GPS watch and it's cool but I am not sure i'd say it's really worth it. It works great for it's purpose, better than cel reception but that is really all it's purpose.

Overall system might be better now though, not sure what updates it got?

I posted this more than 2 years ago on my hike. It's pretty detailed too.

I love it when Nike tech works. Hiked Mt. Baldy yesterday (tallest mountain in LA County) and used the Nike GPS SportWatch and surprisingly the GPS had reception there while my cellphone didn't. It managed to map out my hike down (forgot to turn it on in from the bottom up) after reaching the top (elevation 10,064). It's just plain awesome to record/document the experience. Took the most difficult/steepest route too.

Fuel bands are rip-offs and simply a gimmick. The new iHealth or whatever that app that comes with the new iphones are probably better than the fuel bands. I thought they discontinued it already?

Honestly all i want is to know how far I went in what amount of time. My phone can do that so I just use that since it's also my music player.

Everything else would just be redundant

Im pretty sure Nike got rid of the fuelband group, i'm not sure if their is a replacement in development or not?  I tried the fitbit, which was basically the same as the fuelband, and like others said it was just a gimmick.  Now you can get the bands that actually take your HR (fitbit has one i know), those have a little bit more value.  Without a HR monitor any 'fitband' is worthless imo..

Alright guys, I threw together a Niketalk group on Running2Win.com. Basically its a site to log your miles and compare how you are stacking with those in your group.

Here's the ID to find the group: T-83383145111-17

And the URL: http://www.running2win.com/teams/Ma...JFHSUWKOWULIS4974UOJLMBQTOJOYRRFTKKHSWYECCAHX

If that doesn't work just search for Niketalk Runners. I figure it'll be a good way to stay accountable and encourage each other with our training!
