HBO: "Westworld"...Cancelled After 4 Seasons

Anthony Hopkins has one of the strongest on-screen presence in all of Hollywood.

This joint looks insane.

Live Ed Harris too.

Hoping that this re-captures that certain dystopian atmosphere the original movie did, along with many other dystopian movies of the 70s.

Welcome To Westworld:

PREMIERES THIS SUNDAY, OCTOBER 2, 2016 @ 9PM EST

some reviews starting to pop up:

Westworld is a gorgeous, dense, thoughtful show that demands your full attention. It’s messy and confusing at times, but its flaws are more than outweighed by its virtues. There so much to talk about and unpack that Westworld’s destined to be an obsession—at least for those people who’re willing to stick it out.

NY Times

What keeps “Westworld” interesting in its early going, despite its flat patches and flights of pretentiousness, is its willingness to think big. Is there a difference between simulated and actual consciousness? Are we pushing our entertainments to be brutal, or are those entertainments pushing us to be? In the end, “Westworld” asks the same question of us that it asks about Dr. Ford’s creations: Are we nothing more than creatures of our programming?

Geek

It’s setting up the big questions that android fiction is known for. When you give artificial beings feelings and memories, do they become human? What happens when they decide they don’t like how they’re being treated? Those questions mixed with intriguing human drama and some genuinely disturbing imagery are sure to make Westworld one of this fall’s most talked-about shows. If you’re a sci-fi fan of any kind, it’s absolutely worth checking out.

A quick guide provided by HBO including character breakdowns:

Westworld INFO:

Set at the intersection of the near future and the reimagined past, WESTWORLD is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin, exploring a world in which every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged.

Co-creator Nolan explains, “Building on the incredibly evocative concept of the original film, we wanted to pose the question: If you could be completely immersed in a fantasy, one in which you could do whatever you wanted, would you discover things about yourself that you didn’t want to know?”

Co-creator Joy adds, “We also wanted to explore what it means to be human from the outside in – through the eyes of the ‘hosts’: the lifelike AI characters that are the main attractions of the park. It’s a meditation on consciousness – the blessing and the burden of it – beautifully portrayed by our remarkable cast.”

THE PLAYERS:

Dr. Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins), the brilliant, taciturn and complicated creative director, chief programmer and founder of Westworld, who has an uncompromising creative vision for the park.

The Man in Black (Ed Harris) is the distillation of pure villainy into one man.

Dolores Abernathy (Evan Rachel Wood) is a provincial, beautiful and kind rancher’s daughter, who begins to discover that her entire idyllic existence is an elaborately constructed lie.

Teddy Flood (James Marsden), a new arrival to a small frontier town, quickly proves both his charm and talent with a revolver.

Beautiful, razor-sharp madam Maeve Millay (Thandie Newton) has a genius for reading people and a knack for survival, but her seen-it-all-before worldview is about to be challenged.

Bernard Lowe (Jeffrey Wright) is the brilliant and quixotic head of the park’s Programming Division, whose keen observation of human nature provides him with boundless inspiration for his life’s work: creating artificial people.

Charlotte Hale (Tessa Thompson) is a mysterious and savvy provocateur with a unique perspective on Westworld.

Theresa Cullen (Sidse Babett Knudsen), Westworld’s head of Quality Assurance, is responsible for keeping the park from sliding into unscripted chaos.

A first-time visitor, William (Jimmi Simpson) is initially wary of the park’s more lascivious attractions, but slowly uncovers a deeper meaning.

Hector Escaton (Rodrigo Santoro), Westworld’s perennial “most wanted” bandit, subscribes to the theory that the West is a wild place, and the only way to survive is to embrace the role of predator.

Elsie Hughes (Shannon Woodward), a sardonic rising star in the Behavior Department, is charged with diagnosing the odd quirks of behavior in the park’s hosts.

Armistice (Ingrid Bolsø Berdal) is a savage fighter and brutal bandit, whose ruthlessness is surpassed only by her abiding loyalty to her fellow outlaws.

Logan (Ben Barnes) is a veteran guest whose hedonistic romp through the park is equally motivated by self-indulgence and a desire to help his friend, William.

Lee Sizemore (Simon Quarterman) is the head of Narrative, whose storylines tantalize the guests, while his temperament grates on his colleagues.

Clementine Pennyfeather (Angela Sarafyan), one of Westworld’s most popular attractions, is perfectly beguiling, by design.

Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth) is the no-nonsense head of Security, charged with monitoring host and human interactions and ensuring the safety of the guests.

Lawrence (Clifton Collins, Jr.), a charming but lethal outlaw, has a knack for maneuvering and negotiating the various criminal elements of Westworld.

In. Don't currently have a TV drama other than GOT that is a must watch for me. Hoping Westworld becomes that. Love the cast and what I'm hearing so far.

Procrastinated almost literally until the last minute, but finally watching the OG movie now. Can't wait to check this out tonight.

Man that was one hell of a premier & the trailer for the next episode looks even crazier

Love the song orchestrations. Heard Paint It Black & Black Hole Sun. Im sure i missed some

Also Ed Harris is absolute money as a villain in everything ive ever seen him in

yes, that was bonkers and the season preview :pimp:

the nice twist in the beginning making you believe marsden was a guest and harris was robot :smoking

love the way the guests can basically screw up the script i.e. the saloon robbery ...aye but that blonde chick was puttin in work with that dead eye aim :wow: bodies were piling up.

yeah heard paint it black too, was very fitting.

the dude with the milk

hopkins and harris stole the show.

I wonder what deeper level game harris was insinuating and if hopkins added the reveries on purpose because he got bored or sick of playing god or just wanted chaos.

the fly getting smacked was great foreshadowing.

maeve, dolores and clementine were all :wow:

Need to watch again.. can see shhhh about to get deep.. good opening

Incredible premier, I'm hooked already, loved The idea of cabin in the woods and this had that written all over it.

Heard Paint It Black.

Dude, thank you. During that scene I started singing the song in my head, but I couldn't put a finger on what song it was.

As for the show, :smokin.

Was I the only one that didn't know they were life-sized? I thought it was some shrinked-down world, lol. It wasn't until the balcony scene that I realized what it really was.

And lastly, when the fly landed on her neck, I instantly thought to myself, "wouldn't hurt a fly," and then spat! I literally yelled out, "oh ****!"

Show is going to be so damn good. Well worth the wait.
