He's a heath ledger performance away from being a average filmmaker

Memento was dope
The prestige was cool
The dark knight was great

outside of that none of his films are rewatchable to me

How many classics he got under his belt? 1-2 at most .

Where did all the hype for this guy come from ...dark knight?

you didnt like dark knight rises?

how many classics does someone need to not be overrated?

Inception, Batman Begins and Insomnia are his 4-5-6 rated films.

Gonna go ahead and say, No, not overrated, nor is he even close.

He's an ok director obviouslynot great though. Bad editing and some cringe worthy dialogue are his biggest weaknesses. He's a good storyteller and his major plot points all flow smoothly but it's the details that make someone great. ANd for some reason he has some of the worst fanboys on the planet.

This, not overrated but he's not one of the greatest or anything.

Insomnia is pretty underrated imo,Robin Williams had a great performance in it. Not sure where I'd put Interstellar on the list just yet but it's definitely rewatchable to me.

all this.

every new nolan film is an opening night must watch, his movies are not perfect but there are very few directors that i get excited about no matter what subject they are covering next

he also has one of the greatest wingmen of all time in hans zimmer

What batman 1&2 are terrific.
3 is a few plot holes away from making it great.

All his movies have at least one :wow: moment.

Yes and no depending on context.

In my mind, he's rated just about right. He has some great movies he's directed, others solid, and then a few that were just okay if you don't look any deeper at them and pick it apart cuz he apparently stopped giving a ****. Then there's the obvious stuff like identifying his strengths and weaknesses as a director without being blindsided by w/e particular movie of his you love.

In the context of the masses though, he's insanely overrated. You can usually see a Nolan slurpfest coming though in movie threads and then be able to identify the Nolan slurpers so you can avoid them just in case their opinions happens to have any affect on your own since they do become annoying, cuz if you let them tell it he's top 5 GOAT directors if not #1 :smh:

moment.
ill give him that , he can build tension in a film with ease

Would you guys rate him over someone like david fincher?
i would put them in about the same level, any film by one of those two guys is going to be at least decent

nolan movies are more for everyone while you have to be in a specific mood to want to watch a fincher film

nolan movies focus more on big picture concepts while fincher's are more character driven

i cant really think of a nolan movie that is better than social network

i would say right now the three directors that i can think of that will have me buying a movie ticket no matter what the concept is are nolan, fincher and tarantino

are there any nolan fanboys on NT? i dont think i can remember ever seeing one

Were you hear when Inception and Dark Knight dropped? It was kind of rampant then
I enjoy Nolan's films, but I do think he is overrated to an extent by some. For the most part I think people generally accept his films for what they are.
Memento is a classic though and Batman Begins is my favorite comic book movie ever.

but i figured they were just fans of those two awesome movies. i only asked because i didnt see anyone going out of their way to defend nolan in the interstellar thread

i guess its kind of like how people consider nolan to be the star, like after DK you get posts like "nolan is god" but with a lesser known director not as many people would attribute the success of the movie to the director

not really, he's one of the best at the moment (not all time)

i'd def put fincher above him though
