Hey NT, been a part of this sneaker community for about 10 years under various screennames don't let the post count fool you lol. I just had a bunch of changes in my life (graduated college, moved to a new city, got and lost my 1st job out of school) and after some reflecting I want to make some changes in my lifestyle. Sneakers have been a huge part of my life for almost 10 years strong over that time have collected about 50-60 pairs in that time. I'm thinking about getting rid of all of them except a few choice pairs to turn a new leaf and focus some attention away from shoes towards my life. Has anyone else done this or thought about this before? What's your insight guys

Its like a constant cycle with me.
Like i swear im going to stop buying sneakers but like yesterday at the mall the first thing i look for is sales on sneakers.
Its different with me though because when i first started getting into sneakers i only liked older 80s and 90s models so now it has gotten to the point where i have owned or own every single sneaker i ever wanted.
When it really hits home is when i travel and realize i really only do "need" like 3 pairs lol.
But 50 to 60 in 10 years is nothin....some dudes buy that in one year.
Ive been into sneakers since i was real small and even when i couldnt afford them.
Prolly gonna be like spike lee seinfeld robin williams still wearing crazy stuff on my feet when i get older.
Like i said i dont think ill ever stop buyin em...its just a constant rotation.
i have more pairs than 50..60 and not one is ds

Let me ask u this op.
If u were a millionaire would you slim down your collection?

Haha your right I'm the same way dude I'll always stop into fl or fnl first thing when shopping. I know 50-60 is a years worth for some dudes. I slowed down majorly in college, being a broke student and all. But yeah if I had a million in the bank I would not be slimming down my collection.

But the monetary return is only a small percent of the reason I want to do this, it's more so to allow myself more time and thoughts to things in life other than sneakers. At 25 I have goals and changes I want to accomplish.

Yea one thing i def do NOT do are lines
I aint got time 4 that lol.....

And its like if i miss somthing...theres SOOO MUCH other things that will satisfy that need.

But yeah more power to you if you want to live a simpler life and all that. Watever makes you happy you know ? 8)

don't, you will mind up missing the stuff that you sell. you can always buy em back but its never the same. I sold some gamecube games when I was young and felt horribly afterwards

Haha I think I am going to do might see a ton of sz 13 stuff going up in the for sale forum in coming months.

BlasterCombo not sure if your serious or not but yeah that's the feeling I have about it. Idk if you guys are the same but sneaker talk is right behind oxygen and in front of food. Not seriously but you get what I mean lol

Of course people on this site have gotten rid of their shoes. That's why we have a for sale forum

sz.13 :nerd:
also you need 300 posts to sell on here so you gotta get that post count up if you want to do so.

OP I was in the same boat as you a few years ago and let me tell you. It was one of the BEST decisions I ever made. I know many people will not look at it as a big deal but as I began to look at where my money was going, in the closet, and where it could be going I made the change. I purchased my first house, paid both my truck and my wife's car off and have a comfortable savings nest,

I also had to look myself in the mirror and ask myself if I was honestly buying the shoes because I loved them or if I wanted to impress, stunt or flaunt my collection on others. We can all say we love our shoes but we all know damn well that we feel good when other people look at our shoes or know we are rocking exclusives that others can't get. I guess you can say I just fell out of love with them.

Oh... And ain't no way in hell I'm paying $200 for GR lebron's and Jordan's, which seems to the norm now

^^ YES!

When you buy a car and think to yourself, "that's just 4 pairs of _____ a month", it's time to make a change

Mac4167 I'm telling you man, you took those words out of my mouth. It's not that fell out of love with it, the culture has just changed so much and I'm not up for keeping up with these 13 yr olds. Not married or anything but yeah I have those same goals to get a house and just save, so $200 per release can be counterproductive to that.

I feel you!

I ask people all the time, especially the young brothers I supervise in the military...what would your life and bank account look like if you shifted your priorities away from meaningless shopping. Nothing wrong with dressing fly tho

Nah not at all, dressing nice is a choice but gotta transition from Nike, T-shirts and Js to slacks, button ups and hard bottom shoes.

BlasterCombo I'm telling it's crazy dude, PRIORITIES, at a certain age and having so many different shoes its like why I'm really doing this.

Change is inevitable.

Slimmed down my whole collection, donated a lot which really made me feel better than I would have felt if I kept it all.

I say go for it. I haven't missed a pair I got rid of.

I think for a lot of sneakerheads, there comes a time for a change. I remember I was purchasing a serious amount of shoes, especially in college. Then one day during the second semester of my senior year, I thought to myself "for who, for what?". Haven't bought a pair since.

I've used that time to focus on other hobbies and I do believe that just being into sneakerhead means you're still into fashion. I've since turned from Jordan's and hype beast fashion to suits, dress shoes snf other similar accessories. I always tell kids to never forget where you came from but it's important to remember where you're trying to go and the pieces I buy now are timeless unlike stuff I was buying before so it's worth it.

I think selling the shoes is a good idea. As I mentioned, I stopped collecting in college so all of my pairs are at my parents home and I don't get to go back as much as I'd like so it makes it hard to coordinate a time to take pics, resell and ship them. However, I think that selling them would be a step in the right direction to 1. Allow you to move on from that part of your life and 2. Give you cash for other things or the capital to upgrade your wardrobe.

I sold my collection years ago. Never looked back.

Why? Because this sneaker culture has become a demon. It was a mini demon in my days but now it's ridiculous.

Some things are trends in your life. You have to know when it's over and just move on to maybe not greener pastures but OTHER pastures. Can be applied to many things in your life.

I used to have 120 pairs. Now I have 6 pairs - West Indies AF1, Angus SB's, Gato's, Huarache's, Waterproof Air Bursts, and zx8000's.

And I hardly wear them anymore. Rather just rock Asics.

I'm looking to do the same. The way I see it, I don't really have any use to buy so many pairs of shoes and just have them sit in the closet. Don't get me wrong, I will always love shoes but nowadays I just don't have the time to wear them much anymore. I've recently just bought the few remaining shoes I've always wanted just to get that "hunt" out of my system. The rest of the unworn pairs will be sold soon I'm hoping.

Reading replies in here and in threads similar to topics like this always reveal who got into sneakers for the approval of their peers and who truly love shoes. One thing that was mentioned is true for both, people and priorities change. If you find yourself wanting to make a change OP, go for it. If you are having money issues and selling your shoes will help alleviate that, by all means handle that. If you truly love shoes though, like some of us; you will never completely walk away.

What I have been doing lately is just selling of pairs I don't wear letting that money sit in my paypal and buying up shoes I want and repeat the cycle so at least it does not feel like you are spending your own money

^ that's the thing with me. I see the new lebrons, kobes, ect and I still appreciate the art and design of them but now I can do so without having to buy them. The "love" is still there but the "want" isn't if that makes sense. I still have my must haves but that's about it. Once you start having to dress up 5/7 days out the week even if I wanted to wear them it wouldn't be very often
