New life: Change for the better/ Getting rid of my whole collection

Reading replies in here and in threads similar to topics like this always reveal who got into sneakers for the approval of their peers and who truly love shoes. One thing that was mentioned is true for both, people and priorities change. If you find yourself wanting to make a change OP, go for it. If you are having money issues and selling your shoes will help alleviate that, by all means handle that. If you truly love shoes though, like some of us; you will never completely walk away.

Ohh dude I'll never completely walk away, MJ is my idol and he did some of the most amazing things Ive ever seen in those shoes. Always be a sneaker head but just less quantity. The only Js I've bought in the last two years are the concord lows, Kobe has been seeing a lot of my money lately.

The money part is minuscule to my decision I think, it's just a change of lifestyle I forgot who said it but "knowing where you want to go" pretty much summed up the change

Good for you OP.  Change in life is always good...

but f'real doe.... hit me up when you sellin those size 13's famb.

Shoes is still my passion, been my passion my whole life and that will never change. But I rarely buy them anymore unless they mean something to me. Bought the Infrared 6s this past Saturday because they truly were the first shoe that got me into all of this.

Didn't buy a pair since the Grapes and pretty much got rid of my whole collection, pretty much just cop Roshe's now and the occasional Air Max.

I guess since I was getting most of my pairs through high school it was to see who always had the best kicks and all that but then I realized in the real world ain't no one besides 13 year old pubescent boys care about shoes.

Sold most of them off to go on a vacation with my girl and it was well worth it. Been in the game 5 years but I've wasted too much money. :smh:

Change is inevitable.

Slimmed down my whole collection, donated a lot which really made me feel better than I would have felt if I kept it all.

I say go for it. I haven't missed a pair I got rid of.
this right here

donated a bunch to the salvation army and it felt good

90% of the reason why these "sneakerheads" purchase shoes is to impress other males. OP, good for you for downsizing, but please don't have the mentality that you're special because you're doing this and that you deserve praise for it (not saying you do). People do this everyday, and that condescending mentality is just as corny as the "sneakerhead" mentality.

They are only shoes. They'll get old. Start to fade, crumble. Put your money towards something else.

It really set in for me when I started wearing my shoes to actually play ball. Some pairs are maybe only 5-6 years old with light wear. They can barely hold up.

I need to start selling my shoes.

I never wear them....

Tell me about it. I have viotech air trainers and daktari dunks on ice along with some other OLD stuff. Foot action exclusive dunks. I'll never sell them.

If I can't get them on sale and couple it with my military discount then I don't bother. I understand where you're coming from OP, there are other things out there. Plus I'm older now, the "culture" isn't and hasn't been the same in a long time. And I do alright for myself but I'm not paying 200+ out the door anymore, just stupid to me, and then the price of "retros" go up, and I'm like, I'm good. It doesn't mean the same to me anymore.

I still buy shoes, but only on a as needed basis as opposed to a as wanted basis. Although, there are some air trainer max 91s on sale for 80.00 at Champs and I like them, but my work out shoes are still good enough so I'll prolly pass. More power to you all whether you go forward having a ton or whether you're good with a few.

instead of buying all the shoes from NIKE why not take that money and invest in their actual STOCK....they've been on a steady increase for like 8+ years

Sold my collection in college when I was dead broke and didn't have time to work due to the program I was in, Oh well.

Wow dude this is a really articulate post. Especially that last sentence. Very well said. Rep for you.

I sold or gave away everything I had that had a symbol or logo on it.

Every Nike, Polo, Jordan, etc., item that had a logo on it I no longer have.

Everything I have now is plain. I have all GAP/H&M/Uniqlo clothing. I have plain footlocker shorts to work out and play basketball in. I have 3 different color Uniqlo sweatsuits.

After a poor customer service experience with Nike, I sold/gave away all of my Nike and Jordan shoes. I recently bought the Lebron XII because I like Lebron, but took them back too because the performance was horrible. I mostly wear Adidas, Chuck Taylors, and now Under Armour basketball shoes. I wear Clarks, Timberlands, and a few other brands of dress shoes.

Wearing clothes with no logos or names feels good. I don't want a brand to represent me. I don't want the focus of what I am wearing to be on the logo.

I got you dude, going to compile the list of what I have for sale tmw. Should be around 30 pairs total, I'll also go ahead and message the list to anyone who showed intrest in the thread. Thanks.

I just bought some lebron 12s an hour ago. I'm still waiting on my Jordan VIs to come in. I also like designer kicks also.

I think I'm gonna quit it all OP. It's Dec now time to make some changes for next year.

How did you return worn shoes?

And do it OP, the rat race isn't worth it the way it is nowadays.

Oh and lmk if you have grapes, carmines,or aquas
wink.gif

I feel you on that OP.

I rarely buy shoes now...maybe 2-4 pairs a year and I went through a phase of not buying ANY shoes for about 2 years. I just bought the 6s and some pennys which brings this year's total to about....4. I I wear dress clothes 99% of the time but it's a "thing" just like ties, cologne and watches.

That being said, I'm interested in seeing what you have to offer in a 13 :nerd:

I'm 22 and I got into the game in 2004 when I was 12 years old... I lurked around NT for 2 years until I finally decided to make an account. My last 2 years of high school and first 2 years of college, I didn't really buy too many sneakers since I spent a lot of my time partying and studying. However the last year and a half, i've probably purchased over 30-40 pairs. And i'm constantly browsing at shoes, It's pretty bad :smh: When I ask myself why I got back into this expensive habit of buying sneakers, I know the answer.... there's lots of money to be made in this culture as a reseller

OP, Do you want to sell your collection for the extra cash? If so, just sell the pairs you're least attached to. Or are you looking to sell your collection to end this expensive habit? If so, imo you shouldn't get rid of your whole collection, you just need to start developing healthier habits like not browsing at shoes in your free time (like i do ). I think you should downsize your collection to the shoes you like and know you're going to wear. I have about 30-40 pairs and I wear every single one of them. To me, I see shoes as an investment. If I sell them, that money is going to be spent on something else, since I already have a hard time saving. I'm keeping my grails because I know they're only going to increase in value. I sold off most of my jays since they get retro'd and tend to lose value for that reason. Maybe you should stick to buying collabs since they only release once; therefore, there's a higher chance of the value going up.

What i'm trying to say is you don't have to get rid of all your sneakers to move on with your life. But I guess only you know what's best for you brotha, just remember there are other alternatives.

Was at 45-50 and sold all but 5.
I sold them because I wanted to know that I was not attached by the materialism.
Those 5 I now keep in a display case.
Shoes are still my hobby. I like to read about them, see what's coming out, and be at the conventions. But my rotation won't go past 12 now

Haha aye appreciate our insight man, sneakers are still one of my major hobbies but as a couple people said just down sizing majorly. Just laid out all the pairs that I'll be selling and I'm only going to keep about 10-12 pairs.

Ain't bought a pair since October 2013. Didn't commit to quit, just let it go from my focus/priorities, its just not the right time for me to be buying kicks, when I still got bigger better wants and dreams and sneakers aren't helping me to obtain them at the least bit.... Whenever the time is right I'll be back stepping in my OG footsteps.
