great idea. amazing that nike (nor any of the other companies) have done something like this for their OWN products...crazy.

i hope it works as you envision it.

Meth....thank you... this is what Niketalk is truly about. Some of us have took it to twitter and IG, but this is a chance to truly post something and show our love for the site/sneaker community. Thank you. *begins writing post*

That's exactly the way we see it.  Sneaker fans deserve to have a collaborative resource all their own.  NikeTalk has been that resource - as it's always been a COMMUNITY driven effort to share information.

However, there's a limit to what we can do in a single-author format like a discussion thread.

It's the collaborative aspect of these articles that makes them such a great addition.  In a traditional forum thread, ONE person has the responsibility to create the topic post.  In a news post, like the  [thread="572785"]Official Air Jordan Xx9 Post 1st Two Released 9 6 14 No Buying Selling Trading[/thread]  that means ONE person has to handle the upkeep to ensure that all of the latest news is incorporated.  That's not easy to do.

With articles, we can share the responsibility and thus devise more detailed and current resources - and ensure that they're all interlinked.

We have the tools, and we've always had the talent.  Now it's just about applying the group EFFORT needed to bring it all together.  We identified the NBA Feet thread as a good proof of concept.  You can see how all of the elements can work together:  product pages, player articles, discussion thread.

Of course, our ideas are only the tip of the iceberg.  Part of the beauty of a community like ours is that when you empower people through technology, they can use that in positive and creative ways you never even envisioned.

Meth what if I need to cite Wikipedia for player personal info? Is a copy/paste okay in that situation?
A straight copy/paste is not permitted.  You may cite external sources to provide accurate information, but you can't plagiarize these sources.

Most of you guys have written papers before.  Integrity standards apply.

If you want to say "Michael Jeffrey Jordan was born on February 17th, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York.[sub]1    1NBA.com: Michael Jordan Bio." NBA.com: Michael Jordan Bio. N.p., n.d. Web. 04 Dec. 2014.  [/sub]

Something like that would be fine.  We would obviously prefer stable citations rather than wikipedia.  Wikipedia isn't considered a static or particularly reliable source.  Its articles CONTAIN sources, however, and you can reference these.

However, you would still need to compose the text yourself rather than paste it verbatim.  A table of a player's career stats is slightly different in that the numbers themselves will be identical, but we don't want people to just lift content from other sources.  We want to make sure that all submissions are original.

Why not make enough to go around? Seems kinda strange leaving people wanting them...

Send the profits to a charity or something.

Last time, we produced 144 caps.  We doubled production this time around.  It is literally the most we could get from Cap City.

The proceeds will go to charity.  (We've selected the Equal Justice Initiative.)  Nobody at NikeTalk will make a penny from this.

Cap City was kind enough to finance this order (which is considerable), and they'll probably need to shut down their whole store to ship these as is.  Try convincing most businesses to do all that for virtually no margin.

Can we post these threads in general? Or do guidelines still apply..?
