Making the best use of 5K?

I've seen these sort threads a few times over the years. I'm not the greatest with finances, but I'll have 5K in a month. I'm looking at a good way to either invest it over a 10 year period max. Only dilemma is that I finish grad school summer 2015 and would like to move to a new city. Graduation is like mid July, and I'd like to be out of Georgia and in Charlotte, NC by mid Augusta. I'm hopeful that I'll have a decent job lined up by that time, but there's no guarantees. I was thinking I'd save the 5K to get me settled in NC and hope things work out.

What do you guys think NT? Invest, or fund my move? If investing is my best option, which I suspect many will suggest since it's the most practical, what sort of investments should I look into? Any help is appreciated.
