Sony Pictures Gets Hacked || UPDATE: The Interview Releasing In Select Theatres and VOD on 12/25

Folks lets just put this into perspective alittle

The interview is no different than team america world police. To me the reasons that they pulled the movie was not out of fear of a terror attack in the sense that we know, but a cyber attack that hit sony. Thats to me is why Regal and AMC and others pulled the movie. I feel that they are more concerned with waking up the day after the movie Ipremiered and their entire company secrets and data online.

I saw a article, can't remember where, but basically this is how countries are waging war these days, because internationally law and protocol haven't caught up with the technology and times. If Chinese hackers employed by the government hack into Target or Wall mart servers and accounts, there is no precedent to classify those attacks are hostile aggression on the sovereignty of the united states. You can say that North Korea hacked Sony, but really how can you really prove that it wasn't just some lone individuals doing it?

The movie wasn't pulled out of fear of the public safety, its pulled because these companies realize despite the money they have, they are powerless against the hackers.

I couldn't disagree more.

Not sure if I'm using it right but it's called "preception of reality"

To this day they show things in cartoons that you couldnt imagine showing with live actors.

It's really a interesting thing.

How many heads have been blown off in kids cartoons?

Can't show that with real actors on cable.

Puppets are the same way, some how its really just different.

Wonder if the mormons threatened to blow up the theatre district over the book of mormon how people would feel. The most populr play in the world is highly offensive.

I wouldn't like any group threatening to blow up public places with a lot of people.

name a film that killed a sitting world leader

What does that matter? Are you saying that certain  people should be off limits?
it matters when dudes said "it's been happening for years" You should pay attention to the post directly above the one you decide to reply to next time.

It's a stupid idea to make a (by all accounts) unfunny film about assassinating a sitting leader of a totalitarian nation

th
America getting soft

bu.. but he's still current, he should be off limits!

At this point, these cyber terrorists (you're not really a hacker if you just steal the passwords from somebody that works for SONY  ) should just keep threatening Sony for all of their movies now. I wanna see if they're so ***** made they'll shut down the release of movies from SPE altogether.

This is a high level of ********ness Sony is putting on display for the world to see. I don't know what they doing at the HQ, they should've been sent one of their Japanese shareholders in to regulate.

name a film that killed a sitting world leader
Now that I think about it, since The Interview is a comedy does Un even get killed in it? I mean what are the chances Franco and Rogen succeed in killing him compared to them getting him high and suddenly he's a more benevolent leader of NK?

Based on the emails that were leaked he does get killed...pretty violently actually.
Is there a specific site to read all the emails? :nerd:

I always knew more were leaked but I've just been getting informed off of the most sensationalized leaks.
And for the people defending this movie.... could you imagine the amount of bunched jimmies if NK or Russia had a movie about the assassination of Bush during his term?
If it was a comedy like The Interview the only rustled jimmies would be by the same crazy cranks in America that are too uptight and complain about **** Americans do anyway. Besides it's Bush, I wouldn't care as much.

Although I will say a comedy movie depicting the death of Obama while I could see it being done funny would still be touchy given damn near most ppl thought a black president would've been assassinated due to racism.

all i want to know is what was so important that Sony has that's confidential and why its a big deal ...

i didnt read but part of OP. I did some reading online but nothing is explained

PS - The Interview was gon be terrible anyway ... another dumb movie by Rogan. Dude's last semi-funny movie was Zac and Miri

You guys realize the reason Sony was hacked was because it was easy. They literally had their user names and password in text documents.

Yes and no. Yah Sony is **** when it comes to security. They get a major hack like ever 3 or 4 years.

But according to the FBI or one of them other agencies 90% of companies wouldn't have been ready for this type of attack.

But according to the FBI or one of them other agencies 90% of companies wouldn't have been ready for this type of attack.

They openly have usernames and passwords sitting in text files. Most companies wouldnt be ready for the downtime a hack like this would present but most companies should not have credentials just sitting in an insecure file. Most of the damning stuff that was posted wouldnt of happened without the credentials be so easy to get.

So is this movie going right to dvd or is it getting the crlt + A, delete ?

Straight to the trash bin or the Sony is going to pay Disney for a spot in the Disney vault.

"Now we want you never let the movie released, distributed or leaked in any form of, for instance, DVD or piracy."

"And we want everything related to the movie, including its trailers, as well as its full version down from any website hosting them immediately."

It warns the studio executives that "we still have your private and sensitive data" and claims that they will "ensure the security of your data unless you make additional trouble."

Sony should of never backed down.

This just opens up the doors to other groups to strong arm big corps into doing what they want smh.

^ true but it doesn't help theaters pulled out right after the vague threat.

Hackers tell Sony “The Interview may release now” with edits

The hell

In a message sent to company executives, the hacker group calling itself the Guardians of Peace has given Sony Pictures Entertainment the go-ahead to release the film The Interview—with some minor caveats. First of all, ENDING SPOILER they want any death scene for Kim Jong-un dropped from the film.

"This is GOP. You have suffered through enough threats," the message, which was also posted to Pastebin, read. "The interview may release now. But be careful. September 11 may happen again if you don't comply with the rules: Rule #1:ENDING SPOILER no death scene of Kim Jong Un being too happy; Rule #2: do not test us again ; Rule #3: if you make anything else, we will be here ready to fight."

Sony dropped plans for the release of the film following the cancellation of screenings by major theater chains.

George Clooney: Hollywood abandoned Sony in its time of need

George Clooney has the answer. The most powerful people in Hollywood were so fearful to place themselves in the cross hairs of hackers that they all refused to sign a simple petition of support that Clooney and his agent, CAA’s Bryan Lourd, circulated to the top people in film, TV, records and other areas. Not a single person would sign. Here, Clooney discusses the petition and how it is just part of many frightening ramifications that we are all just coming to grips with.

DEADLINE: I’ve been chasing the story of the petition you were circulating for a week now. Where is it, and how were these terrorists able to isolate Sony from the herd and make them so vulnerable?
CLOONEY: Here’s the brilliant thing they did. You embarrass them first, so that no one gets on your side. After the Obama joke, no one was going to get on the side of Amy, and so suddenly, everyone ran for the hills. Look, I can’t make an excuse for that joke, it is what it is, a terrible mistake. Having said that, it was used as a weapon of fear, not only for everyone to disassociate themselves from Amy but also to feel the fear themselves. They know what they themselves have written in their emails, and they’re afraid.

DEADLINE: Some have pointed fingers at the media that feasted on these tawdry emails. Were they culpable in giving the terrorists a foothold, as Aaron Sorkin has said?
CLOONEY: I do know something about the news world. I was sitting on the floors of newsrooms since I was seven years old, and I’ve been around them my whole life. I understand that someone looks at a story with famous people in it and you want to put it out. OK. It’s a drag, and it’s lame. But there’s not much you can do about it. You can’t legislate good taste. The problem is that what happened was, while all of that was going on, there was a huge news story that no one was really tracking. They were just enjoying all the salacious sh*t instead of saying, “Wait a minute, is this really North Korea? And if it is, are we really going to bow to that?” You could point fingers at Sony pulling the film, but they didn’t have any theaters, they all pulled out. By the way, the other studios were probably very happy because they had movies of their own going in for Christmas at the same cineplexes. There’s this constant circle, this feeding frenzy. What I’m concerned about is content. I’m concerned that content now is constantly going to be judged on a different level. And that’s a terrible thing to do. What we don’t need happening in any of our industries is censorship. The FBI guys said this could have happened to our government. That’s how good these guys were. It’s a serious moment in time that needs to be addressed seriously, as opposed to frivolously. That’s what is most important here.

Crazy how Hollywood was up in arms about nudes being leaked, but now are afraid to speak up for Sony :smh:

Man, **** George Clooney

...when is the last time he's done anything in a film but be "the charming white guy"?

After President Obama, Kevin Hart, and Angelina Jolie came under fire from racist Sony executives, RadarOnline.com has learned that Denzel Washington is the latest target to be revealed in the explosive hacker email leak. According to emails from the execs, two-time Oscar winner Washington should not be cast in films that will get play overseas — because he is black.

The unbelievable e-mail thread was sent soon after Sony released Washington’s latest film The Equalizer, and was posted online by hackers who are demanding the studio not release The Interview, a comedy about the a$sassination of North Korea’s dictator.

The producer who sent the e-mail to Sony Chairman Michael Lynton said he or she hoped the incredible statement wasn’t “inappropriate or provocative.” But the producer — whose name was erased from the emails — suggested Sony should avoid casting black actors to appeal to an international market that the producer deemed “racist.”

“No, I am not saying The Equalizer should not have been made or that African American actors should not have been used (I personally think Denzel is the best actor of his generation),” the producer wrote.

“Casting him is saying we’re ok with a double if the picture works,” the producer wrote, using a baseball analogy. “He’s reliable at the domestic [box office], safe, but has not had a huge success in years. I believe whenever possible the non event pictures, extra ‘bets’ should have a large inherent upside and be made for the right price. Here there isn’t a large inherent upside.”

Washington’s The Equalizer grossed $191 million at theaters worldwide, with 47% of the ticket sales coming from outside of the United States. Still, the e-mail chain suggested that the overseas box office percentage was not good enough. Other films should expect 65% of the sales abroad, the analysis said. The reason for the disparity? According to the producer, it was Washington’s race.

“I believe that the international motion picture audience is racist — in general pictures with an African American lead don’t play well overseas,” the producer wrote. “But Sony sometimes seems to disregard that a picture must work well internationally to both maximize returns and reduce risk, especially pics with decent size budgets.”

An Equalizer sequel, which another e-mail said was set for 2017, would be “a double, with a remote chance of a home run,” the producer wrote.

Along with slamming Washington’s box office draw, the analysis also took a hit at Adam Sandler and Kevin James, suggesting Sony is also swinging for a double and not a home run by casting them in the upcoming film Pixels. The email suggested that Sony “may not have had much choice without blowing the relationship with Sandler, and they want another Grownups, although after That’s My Boy they could have dumped him.”

Previous emails exposed racist jokes about President Obama, and a racist joke about the trend of white celebrities like Angelina Jolie and Madonna adopting black babies.

Another chain revealed that Alex Trebek almost quit Jeopardy! over a standoff with the mother of a Jeopardy! Kids contestant.

Story developing.

^ None of that posted is racist. It's just business...A studio exec is not paid to alter the racial prejudices of overseas viewers, so he has to pander to them...and so he sees: Black lead = less money, so he says, let's do less black-led movies for overseas markets.

It displays a money over conviction attitude, but its certainly not racist.

The viewers are racist. The exec is just maneuvering that particular milieu.

If Sony was smart they'd be loading a C-130 full of portable DVD players with the Interview in it right now.

I'd air drop a million copies all over N. Korea before sun down.

Barry O says Sony is pie for folding

I totally believe this is all about Sony trying to protect whatever/whomever's secrets over there

not terrorist threats

Im black and I have to say that aint even racist. It's a fact that many people in those countries will not see a movie simply because the lead is black. I have lived in europe. Besides London, Germany, The three fingers(Norway, Finland, Sweden) and Copenhagen, that region is racist.

I missed the one where they were throwing shade at people for adopting black kids.

Sony and others
the movie distribution industry won't risk these hackers going in on them. They have personal dignity to lose, if only because most of the individuals working in top management positions at these companies don't enter the public eye until their communications are exposed. They don't want those rumours about that prostitution ring involving young/possibly underage starlets being unraveled.

This by far is the most detached, cold hearted, flat out racist and ignorant replies I have ever read in my 8 years on Niketalk ...this is one of those rare moments where I am truly breaking character and not even joking. It gives so much insight into your warped world view.

As an educated black man, I feel compelled to school you on how RACISM, IS BUSINESS, it started out as a business in the year 1640...America's original sin, and now that America has globalized the entire world, those who want to be part of America's "great glory" adopt this business model to feed their families. These execs should have a sense of moral responsibility and his messages clearly proved that he acknowledges a problem and isn't doing anything to fix it.

...and if George Clooney can defend Sony, after reading that then like I said, **** George Cloooney. Haven't liked anything from him since Dusk Till Dawn.
