first album in 14 years; this album deserves it's own thread, it's that good :smokin

crazy how his first 2 albums came out before internet music really took off. I really thought we would never get another D'Angelo album.

Funny to think...this guys last album came out 3 years before I joined NT...makes you think...half of the ppl on this board aren't going to have any clue who this guy is.

In any case, I'm gonna give it a couple of spins tomorrow...

Album is monumental, D'Angelo is a genius, worth the wait.

All of this.

What's amazing to me is that in his 14 year hiatus (and we all know of his ups/downs), he MASTERED playing the guitar. Speaks to the immense talent that he is.

He has 3 albums under his belt that you can argue are all 10/10. There have been SO many other artists who have dropped near flawless albums, but their follow-ups haven't met the standard of what they previously dropped. D'Angelo, somehow, has either matched (IMO), or bested all of his previous work. That's no easy feat considering how high the bar is/was.

I could go on and on. BM is something R&B has needed for a LONG time. 14 years is quite a wait, but in the case of D'Angelo, quality > quantity.

I'm enjoying the hell outta BM, bruh. :pimp:

This is album of the year Grammy worthy

Still crazy I was in high school last time I bought a D'angelo album

I'm hoping that when I get off of work that I can just stroll right into BestBuy and pick up a physical copy, if they have any. Would order it, but I want it today. I already have it on iTunes, but it is a cd that I want in my collection.

Looking back at it, it did kind of come off as if they were kicks

, but seriously, I want the physical copy though.

I think "aint that easy"

"prayer" and "back in the future" is my favorite ones.

Will change later today lol

Really Love is perfect in every aspect.

I can't believe we finally got another album from this man, I feel so blessed, I wasn't sure if it was ever going to happen. :smh:

Been listening to this all day in between conference calls. I'm liking it more and more with each spin.

I've already listen to this album like 10 times and it's incredible.

It just came out but it's definitely one of the top albums of the year, if not the best of the year.

The wait was worth it and I need to see him perform this album live next year.

Can't believe his guitar playing, dude really has it all man, he's a once in a generation talent and mind.

& I concur, such perfect time for this, going to be drinking champagne and eating gourmet to this all winter.

Everything just feels so organic and slippery production wise, the quality level is just so high man, it's going to take me a long time to even digest all this instrumentation.

I'll pay anything man, probably just going to have to fly to Europe and see him.

True. He was heading down that Lauryn Hill route at one point but glad that he's back. Album did not disappoint.

I disagree....I think you can make a strong argument that Lauryn Hill fell off after Miseducation...but D'Angelo, the quality of work was always there, just not the quantity. That's not a bad thing at all.

The guitar on Betray My Heart, man this **** is beautiful, I feel mahogany on my chest listening to this.

Man honestly this album even surpassed my hyperbolic expectations.

I have to be honest, I've never listened to D'Angelo before, save for a few features here and there :wow:

Want to give this a listen to see what you guys are talking about.

Bro if that's the case, you should just go and cop Brown Sugar and Voodoo, cause you might not get these feels without knowing them two front to back.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. This early, to say Black Messiah matches/bests either Brown Sugar or Voodoo is crazy talk. It's just too early to compare a day old release to his two classics.
