I was told about the Folding @ Home project from Stanford about 8 years ago. Back then, it seemed like a cool thing to do since I would always leave my computer on at college anyways. Fast forward to now and there have been over 100 papers published from the results from normal people allowing them to use their spare CPU cycles to learn about protein folding in order to try to fight cancer, Alzheimers, Huntingtons Disease, & Parkinsons.

I know we've put money, time, and other resources towards good causes. For this, the ONLY thing you have to do is download the Folding @ Home program and let it run in the background. You can also download the Chrome extension as well.

There used to be a Playstation app for this. I used to run it on my PS3.

I think they did away with it, though... Hardware probably got too old.
