Cartoon Network: What the hell?

Yeah I can cosign OP to the fullest. I don't know what happened. I use to watch tv A LOT. Use to watch cartoons way too much and out of all the networks I was still watching CN but then they just fell off.

I first noticed it with Adult Swim. One new ep at a time as an anime got dropped I was looking at them sideways. Slowly but surely half of their shows was just too out there. Like I gotta be on extra drugs, way more than just bud to be getting laughs. Then that stuff translated to what CN does in prime time.

Basically. Hurts my soul.

Y'all sleepin on Steven Universe, lil homie barely a teen surrounded by bad older ******* who fight for him. :smokin

Saw a movie or something once mad late on CartoonNetwork with real people, they were having sex in it. Big rectangular blocks blocked out anything that shouldn't be shown. I thought I was seeing things at first.
That was probably The Room, produced, directed and starring the immortal Tommy Wiseau.

OP, is this what you watched last night?

Yea man

I had my headphones on so I was glancing every now and then. I thought it was a real commercial till I looked up when it was a few minutes in and saw it was still on. I was so confused then it just started getting weirder that **** blew my high.

But it not just that show, Ive had the same thought watching other stuff on there.

Regular Show the GAWD
Adventure Time
Stephen Universe
Teen Titans GO.

I'm 29 years old but when I need a pick me up to make me feel like a kid again I watch these.

Regular Show= "Real Life" Situations..
******* Margret
Adventure Time="Real Life" Situations with some vey adult undertones[emoji]128516[/emoji]
But the shows are no different the Ren and Stimpy, Rockos Modern Life, etc...
Re-watching those cartoons now have me straight

At some of those adult situations we had no idea about as kids.[emoji]128516[/emoji]

Yea I think the earliest cartoon I can think of that was a bit dark, weird, and abstract was Ren and Stimpy. I dont doubt I'd have the same reaction if I watched it today. Loved it when I was a kid. The video game for sega genesis was dope too.

Yeah but to add its all cause we're adults now, the majority. Guaranteed, if it was five+ years ago we would be way more entertained by CN's programming. Me myself, I'm 25 Andy only care for "Big O" , "Ghost in the Shell: 2nd Gig", "Black Dynamite", "The Boondocks", and "Hellsing Ultimate".

1. Perhaps its because we're old...but I don't think so....When I was a kid and pre-teen, I had stuff like rugrats, doug, hey arnold, powerpuff girls, etc...those are legitimately good shows. Now kids have stuff like Uncle grandpa. (I know...some of those are Nick shows, but you get my point).

2. Adult swim is not Cartoon Network...you have to view it as two different networks sharing the same channel.

Adventure time is pure crack. The fillers are good and the main story is getting really deep and interesting if you ask me.

Well said and I definitely get ya' point.

The cartoons they show on cartoon network nowadays are too happy for me.

The situations they place these characters in don't really touch on the bad things that can happen in life too often.

I think the dark aspect of life is missing from a lot of these shows.

example

maybe I'm dismissing the way these concepts are presented now a days as opposed to how they were presented to me when I watched these shows.

Hm. That's an interesting observation. For comparison, what cartoon(s) from years past do you feel did show the darker side of life?

i'd say the batman series were great at this, gargoyles, hey arnold had realistic depictions of everyday emotions we deal with sometimes good or bad, envy, greed, overcoming the odds, making friends (without the outlandish way of doing so). Hey arnold! got pretty real many times.

I suppose the presentations has switched dramatically from when I grew up. These concepts seem to be presented in a merry-go-happy way and sometimes in outlandish demeanor compared to the way I saw them.

The biggest example I can pull is the teen titans of today to the one I remember watching. It's a complete 180 and I honestly think if they brought it bought it wouldn't be a hit. The presentation and environment seem to be on the opposite spectrum of the sunny and colorful style of the today's version.

I think this started around the time that cartoon with the adoption of imaginary friends came along, then it started to get more outlandish in it's presentation of concepts, then you had cartoons like flapjack that were interesting but seem like the makers were on something when drawing and coming up with the story lines, clamchowder.

I think you can make a correlation with the types of films that came out around the creation of these cartoons being more dark in color, more dark in color, very very different from today.

Cartoon Network doesn't air these adult/outrageous shows, Adult Swim does.

I only found out they were two discrete network this year. I always assumed "Adult Swim" was just something CN called it's evening programming

once I started watching adventure time, I really started to appreciate it for what it is and how intertwined everything is. It sucks because I haven't watched it in a year and have no idea whats going on. :smh:

gumball is just pure creative genius tho, nobody give it the credit it deserves.

If I had to bring back one show from the past it would be the WB classic Batman, Superman, and Justice League series.

Season 3 really needed to happen its a shame JL got cancelled like that.

Props to Cartoon Network for changing my life and putting me on to DBZ

I could have sworn that Space Ghost was coming to Netflix
