Which format of music do you listen to and which sounds better?

There's a small surge in Vinyl sales. I've never listened to a song on vinyl, but I've always wanted to test it out to see if the sound is superior to the other formats. What's you guys take on it? Is Vinyl superior to cd, mp3, streaming, or are those who listen to vinyl just hipsters?

I have an extensive Hip Hop vinyl collection because I am from an era where that's how we purchased music, as well as cassettes. I traded up my tapes for c.d.'s and then dumped all of my c.d.'s once I made the transition to digitally backing everything up. The only thing I won't part with is my vinyl because of the sentimental connection and almost every album I own is an original issue. Now with all of that being said, while vinyl being played on my Technics turntables is my favorite way to listen to music; it's not always practical. You will hear the argument from purist that vinyl has a "warmer sound" to it and those same purist prefer it over anything digital, since all vinyl was analogue. Anyone who says vinyl is superior is more or less just stating their preference because Digital is superior to Analogue in regards to quality.

When I am not at home I have no choice, but to listen to CD/ MP3 type quality which is fine by me. I am just the type of person that loves listening to music at all times.

But isn't Vinyl produced without losing a lot of the quality? I know that mp3's are compressed so how can that be true?

I stream everything using either RDIO or Spotify. When I get MP3s I make sure it's not less than 320KBs, I would use FLAC but honestly I can't really tell that much of a difference between FLAC and a HQ MP3.

I believe there is a difference between FLAC and MP3. FLAC isn't compressed I believe. Because of that, the files are so large.

I have a massive amount of CDs, and still buy them today, but since 2010, I've mostly just been DL from livemixtapes/datpiff and buying stuff I can't get in stores on Amazon.

i have a lot of 80's rap on vinyl 12 inch singles

but i have mostly cd's of all kinds of music

i will always buy cd's
records take up too much space

i like to physically hold the music
was never really into mp 3's

cd's have the best sound
not mp3's and not records

unless you have a top of the line turntable

I've collected vinyl on and off for about a decade, but I really have been picking up records left and right this year. I just enjoy the ritual of flipping through my records, holding the liner notes and letting a record run. Quality wise, vinyl is tops to me; I like how fat records sound when you turn up the volume (for lack of a better term).

Additionally, there's nothing like gambling on super cheap records at a record store and finding something you really like.

On the flip side, I had an extensive CD collection that I just let go one day, because Spotify really makes it redundant. I'm not opposed to buying CD's, but if it's an artist I really like I'm definitely trying to get the vinyl version. I bet that new D'Angelo record is going to sound

I've only bought two cd's in my entire life. 1st was Tha Block Is Hot, 2nd was Lord Willin. After that, I went straight to mp3's. I listen to heavier, faster music now days and people swear it's better on vinyl compared to mp3.
