How Ya'll be finding these up and coming artists that are actually good?

I read Indy music magazines at this local book shop. Not just hip hop but rock, pop and other genres as well. While I'm at the shop reading I go on iTunes and listen to the previews for artist the magazines mention. If I like them I buy the song or sometimes the album.

For really good unknown musicz just talk to hipsters

To be honest, it comes from just developing friendships w/ people whose tastes somewhat align with yours. I know I have a handful of people - ranging from regular folk (and even NT counts here) to DJs, other media, publicists and managers - where we constantly talk to each other and trade names of cats + music. That's where we usually find the biggest come-ups.

For us, it helps that none of our staff lives in major media hubs or is connected to the whole circle jerk where you're publishing content b/c you're tied in w/ a managers, labels, etc. Like, I don't feel pressure to post Artist A just b/c he and his team live in my city and I feel like I owe them. Imagine being in NY or LA and constantly running into artists bombing you w/ material when you're at the same continuum of listening events, parties, shows, etc.

Then, some of it just comes from pushing play, which a handful of our guys do daily/regularly.

Odd, but one of the places I will end up finding music is by letting Soundcloud play thru to the next song or by landing on somebody's Tumblr that i really like and they have a music player going. Also, I talk w/ kids a lot too.

But you're biggest source is usually going to be the people around you who have good taste and the ability to sift thru bs.
Cool to see SS on here.  I have had that site in my favorites for about 7 or more years now.  Great stuff, def recommend it if your looking for new music/artists.

I miss those faucet drip and loosies posts though.

As others have mentioned though, the music industry is over saturated and thus watered down.  This is especially true for hip hop as it has become increasingly mainstream over the years.

The problem is it is so easy to record rap songs, all it takes is a mic and computer.  So, yea if you are trying to find new artist you are def gonna have to weed through a bunch or garbage.

i have a friend who always ends up finding dope music and sending me gold. he just says he sits through soundcloud browsing through random groups and stumbles upon dope artists. seems to work though cuz u do come across some although i will admit alot of them are wack too.
