Official Entrepreneur/Business Thread vol.1

I have an idea for something that i'm great at, but don't love. I know for a fact that it'll produce a solid income stream, if only even part time.

I'm getting started on the website design this week. Wish me well

Yeah man. Get after if. It's not like you have to do it for life, just use it to get you to the next level to prove some good income and move onto the next venture. Sell it off keep some equity wash rinse repeat.

Ive been looking into starting some real estate investing if that is something you might be interested in let me know. I plan to start networking and going deeper into my research early next year after i finally close on this coop.

Reading the $100 Start up right now. And prepping some plans and mock sites for some ideas I have.

@al Audi property and real estate. Condos, duplexes etc. get yourself a good inspector. Try and get things under what the average rent cost is and market value and you'll easily make some good money, sometimes finding these places takes time so patience is key. Checkout Reddits real estate and entrepreneur threads, a lot of good information. There's an equation on one of those threads for calculating wether or not a potential place is worth purchasing for renting etc. Also look out of state, I think it's Seattle has some relatively cheap real estate lofts right now, for what the city will probably grow into in the future, with more tech companies moving there. There's another city in Texas, I can't recall what city it is that still has a relatively low housing market and good growth is expected for the city in the next decade for the same reason as Seattle. People will always need a place to sleep and when it's a choice between a house and an apartment they'll take the house. It's also winter and the holidays, people looking to sell are looking to sell, I have my eye on a house on my block as a potential rental, since we renovated ours I know the work that the house needs, and I'm trying to use that to my advantage. The market is a bit different here because I live in the desert near a base and we have a lot of military people come and go, and contractors with their housing allowance. Rent is relatively high when you can have a mortgage that's cheaper, but most are here for 2-3 years or less so buying isn't really an option. Just analyze your area, I'm sure there's plenty of opportunity in real estate, the key is patience.

I haven't had a chance to read the whole thread, much of what everyone needs to do is doable. The reason people DON'T feel more comfortable putting their ideas into motion is because they're scared to fail. It's like not wanting to approach a girl because she's NEVER going to want to marry you. Sorry for the stupid analogy, but it's the first one that came to mind.

The best thing for you young people is to learn from people that already know what they're doing. It doesn't have to be in a field that you are interested in working in. You just have to learn. Learn how to act in hard situations. Learn how to save money. Learn how to treat people. Learn what strategies may or may not work for you. Learn what you do and don't want. Learn how to rebound from failure.

The reality is... MOST of you posting in this thread will fail. And that's not knockin anyone. It's just reality. But, HOW you fail is important. If you don't have a plan B.. or if you don't have something to fall back on, you'll be stuck. Perhaps at home with your parents, maybe in a TON of debt, etc. Just learn how to accept the bad with the good.

Another thing, do not expand too quickly. it's better to try and hit a bunch of singles and doubles than to try to hit your first home run.

Understand that you MUST be patient. Many businesses will NOT be profitable in the first 12-24 months.

Sometimes people will just want your ideas, and NOT your products. Make sure you take the right steps to secure your assets.

SAVE money. Emergency money. You will be hit with fines. You will have a machine break. You will have to pay unemployment, taxes, fees, bills that you didn't expect to see... etc. You may have to hire a lawyer to defend something you did (or didn't do). Just have some money set aside.

Stay away from too much credit. There are many companies that LOVE giving money to desperate start ups. If you can get a loan from a family member or something else, do that. This is NT, sell your shoes if you have to.

I saw some posts about school wasting your time/money. To a certain extent, that can be true. But, it is NEVER bad to have an education; a backup plan if you will. Learn as much as you can. Part of the most successful parts of what i've done have come from 1 (maybe 2) teachers in college. The context they taught was great, but their life experience, their mistakes, and their current investments/ventures they shared were very valuable. Office hours picking their brains was also wonderful. Believe it or not, there are many people that are willing to help you out.

Lastly, think about what people want or what people need... and make that an integral part of your business. If you're selling T shirts, make a T shirt that NO ONE has ever seen. If you're opening a restaurant, have 1 or 2 signature items that will BLOW your customer away. You get the point. Have something(s) that will separate you from the competition.

And what I did?

I took advantage of people's attraction to drink alcohol. When people are celebrating, they drink. When people are happy, they drink. When people are bored, they drink. When people are sad, they drink. When guys are trying to get laid, they buy drinks. Alcohol is recession proof. Many, many people will always set aside money to go out... and when they do, they will consume alcohol.

I hope this helps. I can help answer many of your questions if you need them.
