thread proves there's minorities of all shades that gets it so I'm not entertaining these trolls that don't. They bait trying to make it personal and then if I son them they'll report with the swiftness. All my warnings have came from these children
just look at this last post.

"I dont want to hurt feelings"

Proving his narcissism.

His being rich and using that to get an engineering job makes him think he's better than us.

Let's not forget how he uses GOD as a guise for his 'blessings' all the while flaunting his wealth on NT.

We should, as a collective, block him so he's talking to himself.

Like I mentioned before, the pull yourself up by the boot straps and African Americans are lazy mindset is common with immigrants. I've seen it first hand being the on of two Haitian immigrants. My parents worked their ***** off. My dad put himself through college and then put all 3 of his kids through college. So yeah working hard is very important. But poverty isn't just something you wake up in the morning and decide to end. When poverty and crime is all your father knew, and was all your mother knew, and it's all you know that shapes your goals and aspirations. People in poor com mutinies go to schools where even the teachers don't care about their educations. Their entire lives condition them to accept poverty and crime as their only possible reality.

You're making too much sense for some of these children.

Your insecurities and feelings of intimidation have caused you to interpret my posts in the ways you wanted to.

That is honestly not my fault. I can't change who I am, nor the amount of letters that will follow my name in the years to come.
PLEASE SOMEONE ANSWER ME. I even wrote this on one of the earlier pages.

HOW IS THIS GUY STILL HERE?

I don't think people in this thread are complaining about the opportunity to have a great life in America
People are complaining about how the government has tried tooth and nail to bring down the black community. Have you recognized that they have cut down education funding in the poor communities and would rather increase funding in welfare and the prison-industrial complex that seeks to make a profit off incarcerated individuals? Yes people should strive to be the best regardless, but people still need to be aware of the corruptness and flaws that the country has and seek to improve it to allow more people to prosper and develop less criminals.
I think you make a good point, but this 'agenda' some of you want to believe is unlikely true.  I see the black community doing real well, from athletes, to musicians, figures, celebs, to many other facets in life.  Like we talked about, there is NO AGENDA.  No one is stopping Jackie Chan, Tony Ja from breaking into Hollywood, or Lin or Yao.  No one's stopping Denzel or Randy Moss.  No one is stopping anybody.

Maybe people just have to learn to 'accept' and 'progress' forward.  Maybe they need to really take accountability and 'evaluate' their own philosophy and take responsibility.  Can't look at just one side of the coin though.  If they SO MUCH as to HATE being here in the US, then they might as well leave.  It's the same reason why people FLEE from 'government' in the first place, and why so many people risk their lives coming here.

Good point.  It's like the effort to help the homeless.  Did people ever think that these people WANT TO BE HOMELESS.  So yes, until people want to change, they will continue to 'adopt' a 'culture' or 'perception', because they feel comfortable in that community.  They feel it's EASIER to HATE than to take RESPONSIBILITY.

We can also look at the 'positive' working communities that have succeeded and look at THAT as INSPIRATION as opposed to the 'negative' ones that do nothing but assuage those in self-placed despair.

Agreed so true at the end of the day no one is physically or mentally stopping you from achieving your dreams or goals.

So many men in this thread have made it and have come from bad neighborhoods/families etc etc.

How do you know that you weren't afforded Affirmative Action being Asian?
For starters, there was never any scholarships or grants for Asians like Blacks and Latinos had when I was growing up.  Secondly, schools never adjusted their admissions criteria to allow for the inclusion of more Asians.

In that regard, read the following article.

http://nypost.com/2014/07/19/why-nycs-push-to-change-school-admissions-will-punish-poor-asians/

In NYC, there are a number of specialized highschools which you need to take an entrance examination to get into.  Despite the fact that the majority of students in these schools are Asian, who come from lower income immigrant families, Mayor DeBlasio now wants to change the admission criteria because he feels that there are a disproportionate number of Black and Latino students, which he attributes to better preparation opportunities afford to white students, which is complete BS.

I don't pretend to know what it's like to be a young Black male growing up in America today, but I'm sharing with you my own personal experiences growing up Asian in America.  At the end of the day, I believe that people should be striving to overcome whatever adversities they face and make the most of their lives.  That's not to say you ignore that racism still exists today, but I think some people use it as an excuse for the shortcomings in their life.
I actually went to one of those specialized high schools in NYC.

I haven't looked into what DeBlasio wants to specifically change since I'm past high school

(I should look into it though), but I do agree the admission criteria should change.

Basically the criteria is one single exam you take in the 8th grade. It's a tough exam and you have to be smart to do well on it, no doubt. However, the issue with the process is that the majority of the students are coming from specific sets of middle schools. The middle schools with a high Asian population etc.

The issue with this is that minority students are attending middle schools/educational systems that aren't on par with the middle schools that feed a lot of the students into the specialized high school. They don't have the same opportunities because of where they live. They may live in a rough part of NY because of their family upbringing etc. None of this is in their control.

I'm assuming DeBlasio/other individuals sees this as a problem and wants to help these students enter into the specialized highschools so they finally have the opportunity to have a great education. And trust me the high school provides unparalleled education. The only thing that may be an issue is that the new criteria may allow students that can't handle the work load etc. However, these kids need to be afforded these opportunities to improve their situation.

Side note, I felt my high school was diverse. There could have been more minorities sure, but it was definitely more diverse than my university. I knew plenty of minority kids who were able to fight off a great deal of hardship to succeed in that high school as well. Those kids were special though, not everyone can do that.

Sure, easy to say that, but it's a cycle. A kid enters the world in a beat up neighborhood without true parenting. Where do you think he most likely is going to end up in the future?

I already see so many screw ups who grew up in great homes. Now imagine not having a home, proper education, etc etc. A never ending loop.

Personal responsibility is something that should be taken and I agree with. But it's easier said than done. There's a reason why personal responsibility isn't taken in the minority community at times. Not because black people are lazy, savages, blah blah blah.

There's reasons that people don't want to acknowledge.

WS is the agenda and the religion. Plenty of black people are living well without the stereotypical "yall do well in sports, music, and etc" so chill with that .

Never starved for a meal and was raised in a good community. At the same time I wasn't raised to look down on people that didn't have what i had.

Maybe some of yall can live like that but I can't. If I didn't care about a segment of the population I wouldn't waste my time bashing them. There's plenty of **** I don't care for and you won't see me in those threads trolling either.

EXACTLY.  We have kids in 'great' homes still committing 'crimes' like shootings, etc. etc.  Although I believe the correlation of a healthier environment and success to go hand in hand, there are countless enough 'REAL LIFE' stories to validate 'hard work'.

What?

That's not what I said at all.

As you said you believe a healthy environment and success in the future go hand in hand. A lot of these people didn't have the luxury to grow up in a healthy environment. Sure hard work can break that cycle, but if a kid grew up in that environment and is surrounded by a lot of screwed up things, his road to success/finding success is so much harder.

Yes I agree with that point.  But what I am trying to say is that THE SELF INFLICTED PROPHECY some people put on themselves NEED TO STOP.  Stop living in this 'self-appointed' despair.  The opportunities ARE THERE, especially in the US.

I went to Bronx Science, one of the specialized high schools myself, albeit it was a long time ago.  While the specialized high schools certainly have a high percentage of Asians, it's not because the Asians who take the test to get into these schools come from better middle schools.  On the contrary, many of the Asians who take the test and apply for the specialized high schools come from non-English speaking immigrant families living in lower income neighborhoods like I did.  That's why deBlasio's rationale for  changing the admissions requirement is misplaced.

From the article:

"new Mayor Bill de Blasio, whose son, Dante, attends Brooklyn Tech, has called for changing the admissions criteria. The mayor argues that relying solely on the test creates a “rich-get-richer” dynamic that benefits the wealthy, who can afford expensive test preparation.

however, the reality is just the opposite. It’s not affluent whites, but rather the city’s burgeoning population of Asian-American immigrants — a group that, despite its successes, remains disproportionately poor and working-class — whose children have aced the exam in overwhelming numbers.

True, Asians nationally have the highest median income of any racial group, including whites — and in New York City, their median household income ranks second to that of whites and well ahead of blacks and Hispanics.

But Asians also have the highest poverty rate of any racial group in New York, with 29 percent living below the poverty level, compared with 26 percent of Hispanics, 23 percent of blacks and 14 percent of whites. Poor Asians lag far behind whites and are barely ahead of blacks and Latinos. Thus, the income spectrum among Asians in New York ranges from a surprisingly large number in poverty, through a hardworking lower middle class, and on to a more affluent upper middle class.

The poor students get into such schools through hard work and sacrifice — both their own and that of their parents.

Changing the admission criteria for the schools is tricky since:

1) there are so many students I'm not sure there will be the time and money to actually go through them thoroughly

2) I rememeber reading articles a while back and they were talking about incorporating grades and extracurruiclars and all that but middle school teachers don't grade the same and as far as extracurriculars go, some schools don't have the money for that

Instead of spending his time trying to get a handful more minorities into the specialized high schools, i think it's better for him to try and make changes at the elementary/middle school level

Don't know how it works in NY, but in CA, it's charters and low enrollment that is killing education.

They spend billions building schools they can't fill, shuffling teachers and staff around like its a deck of cards.

School is no longer about getting an education, it's about making kids literate and able to fill out applications. It's all about getting buts into the seats and scores on standardized tests.

I wish I had it in me to run for a position that had power, but it's not in me.  There's so much money to be made selling off old sites that aren't meeting enrollment. Just fill schools, sell off the surplus, and use that money to pay us educators better and provide better curriculum than the one that revolves around a score.

Truth.

Plenty of opportunity everywhere, for everyone. Some just don't wish to take it or don't care to do so.

 How can you brag about your parents being rich and college educated in one sentence and next post talk about "plenty of opportunity everywhere"? What do you know about that life? Absolutely nothing. Your parents did everything for you and all you had to focus on was doing okay in school. Easiest job in the world. Don't talk about "opportunity everywhere" when you were lucky enough to be born into a perfect situation. Please, don't make us Latinos look bad. Completely undermining the struggle even though you've been beyond privileged your whole life.

I'm probably not packing in the "man" department.

Given that the pretty women I sleep with seem to be pretty satisfied (or so I've been told), I'm not sure what to believe anymore.

Halp. :frown:

The fact that you're on some arrogant, bragging **** on the Internet says everything people need to know about you.

And nah, I'm not tryna hurt your feelings. It's just obvious as hell.

Exactly how am I undermining anybody's struggle by telling you my life experiences?

Should I lie to you? Should I strive for less? I don't get it.

Btw, I work and go to school, even though I don't have to. I can easily just go to school and hang out with my buddies every weekend and some weekdays and blow my money in clubs and what not.

I choose not to. Don't judge me when you know nothing about me, nor the sacrifices I've had to make and the amount of work I've had to put in to get to where I'm at.

You're directly undermining me, when you don't even know. And you're claiming im indirectly undermining people's struggle?

You're funny, man.

What struggle? What sacrifice? Choosing to not blow money at clubs/parties is NOT sacrifice or struggle. The fact that you bring that up is hilarious. That's what you think trouble is?

Strive for more. Be great. But don't act like you know what it's like to be born without the many privileges that you've had. You've bragged enough in this thread to give away that you've had more privileges than most in America can even fathom. You don't know about the opportunities someone that's NOT in your perfect situation had growing up. So cut it out, please. I'm happy anytime a fellow Latino is successful. It makes me proud. But you were born into a situation where all you had to worry about is doing well in school - a large percentage of minorities have bigger issues - other concerns. You know that you're undermining that ACTUAL struggle with the non-sense you're spewing in this thread.

You seem to be a smart, successful guy. Show it.

Are you serious?

Then please explain why everyone is up in arms because dude is rich because dude does not share the beliefs and views you guys share?

This gang up mentality because of different views on Nt is getting out of hand already smh

But wait I'll be a SWS because I don't agree I'll keep my voice down
