As I said in the other thread:

Initial offseason moves I would make:

Frank Gore and cut DT forever.

Cut Hartline, pick up Dez Bryant... don't worry about it. (Streater, Salas, Hankerson)

Guards... more Guards... and Another Guard. As well as a solid backup Tackle.

Maybe get a combo of Dan and Kevin Williams for DT... I fully expect Odrick to be gone. Starks needs a lot more rotation, he clearly broke down by the end of the season. But, again, more depth here. We have talented Linebackers (olb - Jordan, mlb - Misi, old - Jenkins)... (who knew right? Coyle didn't) any way more depth and rotation with Big Bodied Defensive Tackles... let the linebackers make the plays (See Ravens circa 2000s)

Corner, cut Finnegan and hopefully pick up a Byron Maxwell type for depth and physical. Expect Grimes at one, draft pick at two, and Jamar Taylor at nickle. Then I'm good with physical cats to fill in.

Safety, go pick up McCourty from the Pats. Have not looked into Safeties yet... But obviously need to grab some depth there as well with Delmas and others leaving.

Don't see or feel the need in FA to get some high priced player. Just see a lot of depth to be filled. The draft is closer to something I see being way more important. (Obviously)

1 - Corner
2 - Guard
3 - Guard/DT (Starks is aging, needs a replacement sooner rather than later)
4 - Guard/DT (opposite of third round)
5 - Tackle/Guard/Center (find a flexible lineman) - also depends on free agency
6 - bpa
7 - bpa

Dolphins officially have the 14th pick in the draft... shot at PJ, Trae Waynes, Jalen Collins.

All are over 6 foot and all have played well to great in man coverages and press. Gonna do more research but my initial favorites are Trae and PJ.

And a New Defensive Coordinator... Rex would look good in teal with all his lost weight.

To be honest I can definitely see signs of improvement since Coach Philbin arrived, and Tannehill is now one of the top 5 QB's in the NFL. If we can just win those 50/50 games and be stronger at home then we should be in the playoffs next season.
We now have a pretty good looking squad, maybe double up on another good young RB and a TE come draft time, but I sure am optimistic for next year!

Just looked it up, you're right, but he is number 5 for pass completions and completion percentage on the season, and the best QB that we have had since Marino!

The guys seem to have faith in him, I think he can really improve and firmly make his case to be in the top 5/10 overall QB's in the league

I said previously I hadn't watched everything close enough to do a mock... what I did see of him I like. I've been right the last four years with picks even if the Dolphins didn't take the guy. I'll do more research during the offseason like I usually do.

Even though the season ended as a disappointment, I think we're almost where we need to be. Get

Pretty much this. I think we're ok on the offensive side of the ball (Except for the OL of course). It would be great if we could get Moreno again for cheap. Just need to get some depth on defense and I would LOVE to see Rex Ryan replace Coyle.

Rex said he is refusing any DC job... it was thee longest shot for him to be the Dolphins DC any way.

I would pretty much do everything I could t interview Seahawks Defensive Line/Defensive backs coach for a position. Not sure of many DCs on the market right now.

Uhh he is not top 5

But he's better than I have given him credit for. We are screwed with Coach Philbin and Coyle returning so all I can see is 8-8 regardless of if we had Marino, 2002 Ricky, and the Marks Brothers with the Zach/JT defenses of the 2000's

From last week, the other thread.

I bet I can sell you. :nerd:

May I present to you, the Dallas Cowboys, or, more specifically, Jason Garrett?

Career .500 coach, never runs the ball, Cowboy fans hate his guts, they shore up Oline, poof, whole team is stronger. QB, RB, Def, all improved because Oline controls the game.

So, here's this....

Omar Kelly @OmarKelly · 6h 6 hours ago
Ryan Tannehill had a 97.5 passer rating in the 5 games the Dolphins featured an O-line with BOTH Mike Pouncey & Branden Albert on the field.

Then, this

Daniel Eliesen @DanielEliesen · 6h 6 hours ago
Ryan Tannehill is the 8th rated QB on the season per @PFF. He has an overall grade of +13.0 on the season.

Then I add this.....

Tannehill 26
Miller 23
Wallace 28
Clay 25
Sims 23
Pouncey 25
James 22
Landry 22

Now, trim some fat. Get rid of Moore's contract, Hartline, Gibson, Daniel Thomas.

We hope to see more improvement from Rishard Mathews, 25, Billy Turner 23, Damien Williams 23, Arthur Lynch 24, and of course, get Albert back, he's 30.

That's a pretty young core, most of them still improving. Add a couple cheaper vets, and a nice draft class (pick or two) and the offense could improve even a little more than this year.

So then defense.

Wake and Grimes are the old folks, we know that.

Vernon 24
Jordan 24
Fede 23
Mitchell 27
Odrick 26
Jenkins 22
Misi 27
Taylor 24
Jones 26
Davis 24

Then add this last year's draft class, which has been redshirting. Johnson 21, Tripp 23, McCain 23, Aikens 23

Cut the fat that might be Starks, Ellerbee, and Wheeler (along with the offensive players) and guess what? You now have some decent money. Fill in the hole at DT. Draft a CB in round 1 to help the secondary. Add a Safety, and maybe another piece or two at LB for depth, you have a decently built roster.

Play your cards right (and we don't know trade up, trade down, etc via the draft, but as an example)

Round 1 CB
Round 2 OG
Round 3 S
Round 4 LB
Round 5 Bigger RB
Round 6 BPA

Say some of those FA's were Andre Johnson and Frank Gore (or, dare we dream) Marshawn Lynch, with a Rd 2 OG to solidify the line, Tannehill improving, James, Landry, Miller, Sims all improving, Wallace and Clay still here, is that not a better offense?

And on D, you spend some of the money to fill in Starks and the LBers, and the rest of the draft brings you a new CB and S, and both are young/cheap, along with the picks from last year that will enter their 2nd years, now we have more depth, plenty of youth, and plenty of developing pieces. Look at what Jenkins and Sims have started to show. Look how Landry and James were as rookies, what might they do in year 2? Pouncey, Jones, and Jordan won't miss the first month of the year this time. (hopefully)

And BTW, Manning, and Brady will each be a year older, possibly starting to show cracks at the top of the AFC. Rex may be out in NY. Buffalo has no first round pick this year, and still no QB.

Is it not possible, that this dumb *** Philbin might not even be able to get in the way, like Garrett in Dallas this year? :nerd:

You know who else I would personally look at is Marcus Peters.

That dude is a beast, but I don't believe the Dolphins (Philbin and Hickey) would even look at him. Look at the last two drafts... not a spec of trouble in either.

Supposedly the UW thing was just Peters and coaches not getting along at all, Peters telling coaches how he best plays initially and then had a f-ck it attitude and coaches saying we're coaches and f-ck off. I'm sure the truth lies in between.

Talent wise, though, this dude is top five imo. Was looking at Collins too, intrigued. Looks like a more fluid Sean Smith. Big guy, decent feet. But I only watched a couple of things. Back to work...

At 14, the thing that I hope happens most is trade down. 3-4 spots.

Then, trade down again, 3-4 spots. Pick up multiple 2nd-3rd round picks and still add first round talent.

If we stay at 14, lot of stuff to play with there.

Brandon Scherff, OG/OT combo hybrid. We likely use him at OG.
Trae Waynes, likely the best CB in the draft now that Ifo is hurt, and no way we look at Peters.
La'el Collins, same as Scherff, OG/OT hybrid. Plug and play starter on day one, ala James.
Eddie Goldman, DT possible replacement for Odrick if he wants too much money.
Landon Collins, Safety from Alabama, maybe he could take the spot of Delmas who probably won't be back.
Eric Kendricks, MLB from UCLA.

Add one of them, or even a lesser player of this ilk within the same positions, that's a new starter.

With the extra picks, you can get a comp back for Miller (RB DEEEEEEEEEEEP class this year) and maybe add another LBer or S, depending on who we take round 1. (CB or OL)

Imagine something along the lines of trading down a couple times, say to number 19-20.

Get Goldman at DT
Denzel Perryman at MLB
AJ Gann at OG
Jalen Collins at CB
and Jeremy Langford at RB thru 3 rounds.

That's better than just taking Waynes at 14
Gann in round 2
and a Michael Bennett DT in round 3.

The 2-3 extra pieces we could get from moving down (multiple times) could help us fill multiple voids. ****, Goldman, Perryman and Collins would be useful to us day 1. And still getting Gann and Langford to help the run game (and protect the QB a lil better) would help the defense just as much by running the ball better. No more punts after missing on 3rd and 1, etc.

The good news, Edge rushers are deep this year, so likely everyone will go for those. RB is also deep, so they will take up picks in round 2-3 as well. WR also deep.

Most of our biggest needs are OG, CB, S, and LB. With luck, we could get a couple of these all at once and not have to reach for guys. Getting the extra picks would help even more with that.

Granted, I say get extra picks every year, and I do, because it's better for the roster overall. New England has done a ton of it, it helps them absorb so many injuries. (course, they have better coaches to teach those kids)

Could have moved back Twice for Tannehill... took him at 8.

Could have moved back Once or Twice for James... took him at 19.

They will not be trading back, that was my initial thought as well though. They just won't be doing it in the first.

And I said they wouldn't look at Marcus, doesn't mean he isn't a beast and the Dolphins (or any team) wouldn't pick him up on the cheap. (3rd or 4th round)

Miller and Duke Johnson... :smokin

I do for sure like your scenario, I really hope they trade down and pick up more pieces in the 2nd and 3rd!

Need to keep an eye on this regarding Wallace.

The cap ramifications involving Wallace: The Dolphins take a $12.1 million hit if he’s on the team, $9.6 million if he’s cut, $6.6 million if he’s traded and $5.2 million if he’s cut with a post-June 1 designation (which also would result in a large cap hit in 2016, as well).

If we take a back in this draft.

I want Duke :smokin

A UM backfield

And Thomas would be no where to be found

Would you guys want Flash Gordon ? What would you give up in a trade if that's what it took?
