Looking at 2014 if you wanted to listen to an album with conscious lyricism all you had was the south n midwest

Killer mike / run the jewels 2
J.cole / forrest hills drive
Big krit / cadillactica
Isaiah rashad / cilvia
Common / nobodys smiling
freddie gibbs / pinata
logic / under pressure

I like east coast rap but its too club oriented Bobby schmurda , troy ave , shy glizzy , nicki minaj etc

Its ok with balance so of course the singles
Are gonna be turnt but you rarely see people putting togethor projects with quality content anymore . Probably speaks more to the current climate of albums in general but it seems like the south and midwest are holding down conscious rap ...atleast in regards to mainstream and notable rappers

Now that I think about it the Midwest and South do have some of the best lyricist right now. I would throw Kevin Gates in there too.

I'ma have to agree on this, they been holding it down. Gotta throw Mick Jenkins - The Water(s) on there too :pimp:

Logic is from Maryland, but you are talking about Shy Glizzy from DC?

and I wouldn't count most of those mentioned as conscious

Kevin Gates and Freddie Gibbs?

Just because you aren't rapping about material items and hustling doesn't mean you're conscious. Nobody would confuse Krit with Mos Def.
