NIKE METCON THREAD - 7s out now

Don't understand what's inconsistent about it. They've never outfitted regionals. Do they give stuff away? Sure. But never made people wear gear. Athletes at regionals wear their gyms gear, sponsor gear basically anything they want. The Games is a way bigger production, with ESPN showcasing the sport. All athletes, staff and volunteers are decked out, head to toe Reebok gear.

They never used to make athletes wear Reebok shoes at the games until last year either. If they are going to make them wear Reebok for the Open announcements, then I would think they would make them wear Reebok for everything. Wearing it for Opens and the Games, but not Regionals is inconsistent.

Still looking for a pair of the dark grey/volt in size 9.  Did anyone have luck today online at DicksSportingGoods or Finishline?  Miss out at Sports Authority on Friday morning as well.  Any chance more will be released anywhere?

That's not true. They have always made athletes wear reebok since 2011. However, you could wear whatever brand shoes/belt you wanted. But that was the year the first nano came out, so nobody wore other shoes because they all wanted to wear the first crossfit shoe. Ever since 2012 (the first year it hit ESPN), they blocked out all other logos on shoes and belts. That included the rehband logo on knee sleeves, the name and logo on Adidas or Nike lifters, and even the word rogue on belts. The reason they outfit the games is because they want to make it more like other sports where you have a specific "uniform". It's all about the production. They want everything to look very clean for TV. Also, when its on ESPN a lot of non crossfitters will be exposed to it. Therefore reebok wants the maximum exposure of their product to possible newcomers to the sport who will want crossfit gear. Since regionals is just streamed on the website, only crossfitters will be watching, who are most likely already aware of the different brand's products of the market (most of which are already probably wearing metcons)

I think what he was trying to say is that last year was the first year that wearing reebok was mandatory.  Yes, in past years you could wear nike/adidas/vibram/innov8 and just black out the logo, but last year they specifically said you could not participate if you were not wearing reebok, to the point that an athlete was seen wearing nike compression shorts under his reebok tights and shorts, and he was reprimanded for it.

They were definitely more strict last year, as evidence by Lauren fisher wearing reebok lifters during the speed clean ladder, but you were still able to wear different shoes. Lauren fisher always wore Romaleos for lifting before then. Many people wore inov8 for the triple 3 workout, due to the 3 mile run, even though all the athletes received reebok running shoes. I guarantee they won't allow any Nike this year (even if they tape over the logo like in past years) though because Nike is a serious threat. All other companies are not.

Yeah, nike is a serious threat, because reebok has been supplying the crossfit world with sub par performance apparel. After 5 years they still haven't figured out that cushioning and stability is a good thing for the nanos. And don't even get me started on the apparel...
I find it sad that people will gobble up anything that says cf on it. No matter how horrible the product is.

Is there any nike crossfit gear out there? Or is it all labeled as cross training? I would prefer to buy tees and shorts specifically made for crossfit, nike should make a sub label like Nike "black" or whatever so we can differentiate between cross training and crossfit gear.

I don't think that's true. I didn't see anyone wearing non Reebok apparel or shoes. They wouldn't even let you compete wearing other companies gear. I remember a lot of athletes made a big deal about it.

Anyway, I totally understand why Reebok would do that for the Games and the Open. Just interesting that they didn't for the Regionals when they easily could have.

Because in the Open you have what 2-3 people competing on broadcast? Easily to outfit for that. Games you have it televised on ESPN so of course you outfit for that. Regionals you have so many competitors when you think of all the teams and what not, thats just too many ppl to try and outfit for, that's like 2,000 athletes, not worth it.

They gave them shoes and other stuff at check in so that's not valid.
