while your statistics show more net murders, black people only make up about 13 percent of the population....so, per capita, the rate is much higher.

Fontaine has a good point.
To make good judgement on race only, you need to isolate any other variables that affect what we are looking at now.
So anything that would affect the crime rate like sociodemographic, region, age and all the other factors have to be controled. Then you can see what's the real effect of the race on the crime rate.
Example :
If being poor increases the possibilities of being a criminal and blacks are less fortunate in general, then you will see a higher percentage of blacks committing crimes (compare to white). But in reality, if you take only whites and blacks with the same income, then you see the crime rates is nearly the same. Same example could be made with blacks of higher income, they would have a significantly lower crime rate than poors and would be nearly the same as white. Here, you cannot conclude that being black leads to higher crime rates, the real variable here is income. Groups of lower income will have a higher crime rate. That's how you can manipulate stats and make them say alot of stuff (IE what Media often do in the US and anywhere else in the world).
This is just an example, I don't have the data to prove what I said in my example, but it was just to show that's how it needs to be done to get a real sens of the "value" of the variable "race" when it comes to crime rate / violent crime percentage or any other stuff really. You always need to control the other variables that affect the subject to really see the effect of the variable you are trying to isolate.

I don't care about the rest of society and how the system may be working against me.
I'm just going to enjoy what life has to offer me and try to be the best man I can be. Find a good job, a good wife and have children (the only thing you can pass on when you die is your genes). The "Man" knows we feel cheated, feel like the system is designed to destroy us. That feeling alone is enough for the some us to make excuses for our poor decisions. What people need to realize is that complaining isn't going to fix the problem, it is just going to further separate us from where we can be as African Americans. The media knows this, and want people to be angry without a sense of direction.
Police will continue to do what police do here in America. Deal with it and take care of your family.

The difference is.........that generation knew how to protest. They didn't camp out at apple stores like these idiots did. That generation was educated and actually struck fear into their oppressors.
So we should just deal with it?
