Let it be known in a serious manner you aren't tipping before service

Slavery=tipping

Wow
I never said slavery equaled tipping. That's a tactic far too many people use when they don't agree with a comparison.

Similar =/= Same. They're similar in that they're both customs. They are most definitely NOT the same.
what about cab drivers? y'all tip?
Sure if they chat me up. Make me feel pretty

Not just drive me from point A to point B.

Why are you bringing slavery up if you aren't conparing it?

It's an apples to oranges comparison

i just wanna know why people get so fired up over tipping

it's obviously being used by businesses to exploit their workers...

yet, everyone gets so passionate about shaming people who question it or want to address it.....

ask a server why they're a server and 99% say "because i get cash"

WELP

Apples and oranges are similar in that they're both fruit, they both have seeds etc. They are not the same.

I merely did that with slavery and tipping pointing out that they're both customs. I never said they were the same.

I recognize it's an extreme comparison but I did that on purpose to better get my point across.

Just because something is a custom doesn't mean it has to stay one or be done.

It's cool how NTers expect beyond excellent service from their servers but they spend their entire work day on NT.

How hard do you work...really?

when is the last time i thought i deserved a tip?

unrelated, but mogs forever scream entitlement then call you a bum for not tipping LMAO

Wonder how many of yo non tippers hold yourselves to the same standard of excellence that you expect from your servers

You the most ambitious and proficient workers in your office, right? You always go above and beyond to ensure you fully earn your compensation?

Just saying it would be somewhat hypicorital to expect such occupational perfection to earn your tip if you're surfing NT all day in your cubicle ... You guys just luck out that your pay/benefits arent (usually) on the line

Just my perspective

Because NT is full of elitist scum bags who want to portray this sense of arrogance and self worth. These threads bring out the scum bags and most disgusting people on here.

Just because something is a custom doesn't mean it has to be done. There's been a multitude of silly customs in human history.
**** slavery was a custom in the U.S. >D Question why something is instead of just accepting it as it is. If you hate tipping then don't tip.

Of course. He holds the fate of my hairline in his hands

you just tried to compare slavery to tipping.

Slavery.

and

Tipping.

Unbelievable.

People really tip for takeout?

Can someone explain why if you do? Feel free to hurl insults at me in the reply if you feel strongly enough to do so.

Tipping is BS to me.

If I tip a server $20, that person's not going to be like "Oh you tipped me too much here's $14 back.

They're going to take that as a come up.

The only reason why I tip is so my food doesn't come with some special seasoning.

It's like when a homeless person is posted up by your car and they ask for money.

"Naw I don't have any money on me. But I'm going to drive off now and hope you don't pop my tires."

There's few logical reasons at to why people should tip. While we're discussing tipping, the business owners are kicking back counting their stacks.

They should be paying their servers more, but they've nestled behind the social construct of tipping.

and do y'all tip ups/fedex drivers doing the holidays? i never knew that was a thing until i seen my secretary do it and she told me she always does it.

My fam usually gives the UPS man a couple dollars for Christmas. He's a good dude and we order a lot of **** so

Eh on the tipping its a simple as this to me.

Servers should provide the best possible service and go above and beyond on the first visit for every customer.

Now if a customer tips decent then that above and beyond service should continue on future visits if the server remembers them. If a server feels stiffed and didn't get a tip then they should just provide the bare minimum service required of them while neglecting the non tippers tables in favor of customers they deem more desirable. If your a server, the non tipper isn't entitled to the same above and beyond service the decent tipper is.

You don't have to tip, but its pretty much known that tipping good service is an unwritten rule in this country.

^but do you have the same level of commitment to the 'customers' at your job? You're always striving to offer the best possible service and always motivated to exceed expectations?

(Doesn't have to be literal customers but those who rely on the products/services that result from your work)

But really it's hard to compare to most other jobs since tips are INTEGRATED INTO SERVERS PAY RATE, and everyone knows this. Best to just commit to a universal 15% and keep the world spinning, unless service is truly poor

Non tippers just have to admit their irrational justifications and (likely) associated cheapness

All that said, I think the best alternative is raising food prices & pay rates for serves and eliminate tipping, seems to work in most other places, and removes the opportunity for people to over analyze their service (most of the time in favor of tipping less) and stiff the waiter accordingly.

I work for myself and me maximizing my earnings is reliant on making my customer base happy so yeah, I provide that service.

If I had a traditional job, I would like to say that if I was happy at my place of employment I would give my best effort due to a sense of pride in what I do. If I wasn't happy I would find a better job.

I like the idea of raising the food prices to match the wages and just cut the middleman. It might scare off some of the cheaper crowd who only get appitezers and water or are reliant on happy hour times though

List of recurring threads:
  1. [Insert adjective to describe a woman] Appreciation Thread
  2. Tipping
In any case, I think tipping needs to be reformed.  Pay minimum or higher and then have tips be extra.

I used to be a waiter if it matters.

tipping to me is subjective. I tip a few bucks when I go to a place that requires service and the service is good. Simple as that.

"Irrational justifications"

Not tipping is no more irrational than tipping. I tip but I always find it ridiculous how tippers look down on non tippers and act like tipping is an essential part of life.
