President to propose free community college on Friday

You originally wanted it for free without earning it
No, I didn't. I knew my parents couldn't afford it so I never expected it. On top of that I didn't know what career I even wanted to pursue and didn't want to go to college straight out of high school, so I got a loan for a couple grand and went to CC for a semester while in DEP. Don't act like you know about me at all.

.
You originally wanted it for free without earning it but couldn't find a way to so you joined the military. Now you feel better about yourself man please
you seriously need to chill with the ether, my dude.

You're really exposing famb right now.

Its low key sad.

:smh:

Bruh I'm in awe that dude literally said "I couldn't find a way to go to college without loans so I joined the military." Like he didn't use the government for education, but it's somehow lazy if someone else uses the government for education.

Comparing having to sign your life away for X amount of years and work for it to crying about getting it completely free. Legit argument you have there.

Signing your life away for something you deem not necessary for success, sounds legit.

Thinking shooting guns at a ranch on my dime is working for it but studying your *** off and participating in community service is free, sounds legit.

There's nothing ignorant about not wanting to learn how to shoot a gun to get a education. The only reason you joined the military is because you couldn't get a free education so now you just sound bitter. You're acting like you weren't looking for a free education as well  It'll be alright bro I know you work really hard in that camo surfing NT.

I'm not bitter about anything. I just dislike the entitled attitude of most lazy Americans, like you. My gripe with this is that we don't have the money for it. Why is that so hard for you to wrap your head around? You brought the military into this trying to insult me, not the other way around. Your point isn't even valid (not that you ever had a point) since those in the armed forces have earned what they have. You just want it for free without having to earn it.

Simply playing devils advocate because I also know impoverished folks, and there are a lot of moving parts to their life as well, but you and your cohorts want to single them out as not deserving

No one is being singled out. No one is entitled to completely free education past high school. It's that simple.

What makes anyone entitled to it up to high school?

Nvm I get, folks should only be entitled up to the level you received, nothing more.

The military already get a salary and benefits, why should there be the gi bill? Not even opposed to it, but by Megs logic it shouldn't exist.

tuition assistance while on AD too...just saying

also the military will FORGIVE up to $60k in loans if they are backed by the government

And can someone PLEASE ******* explain to me how we're going to accommodate an enrollment surge when community college campuses around the nation already face a lack of space?

There isn't enough faculty, classrooms, computers, parking space, and seats to accommodate everyone. Classes already get snatched up fast and a lot of folks who wait too long to register are assed out because there simply isn't a class open to them.

They've got to settle for the wait-list and for folks to drop out of a class for a seat to open up.

So PLEASE pray tell, how are we going to accommodate everyone?

The best professors' classes are snatched up early. Then folks are left with the riff raff of the community college teaching world. I'm talking professors who can barely speak English (think foreign Indian types) and have HORRIBLE interpersonal skills that do not help students learn subject matter.

So community colleges are going to have to get more of those types to create classes, why? Because Universities take the best professors, that's why.

A lot of you can't even begin to fathom the logistics at hand here. Too ******* busy singing kumbaya and we are the world to realize how great an undertaking this would be for so many community colleges.

Wake up.

You r right. There is a crowding problem. I actually didn't think of that.

Yeah, funny how most folks casually just side-stepped that post in the midst of the debate.

 Oh well. Pertinent points have a habit of being overlooked when they poke holes in folks arguments.

Again, I'm not against the proposal, I'm simply looking at what it would take to get done and it's just not a realistic undertaking.

I know it's been a while since Obama has been in college but I feel like he's hilariously out of touch with the state of community colleges in America.

So just in general, does the idea of A free education system disgust you? Not that we have one..just asking hypotheticaly

Great so we are going to give people more free schooling. What are they going to do about the 250K I had to take out for med school that they the govt is charging me 6.8 to 8.5% interest on all at the same time they are taking 40% off the top of my income for taxes. Hmmm wonder how they will pay for this. Guess they will have to raise taxes on me a little more.

even with the new system people are still going to have to pay big money for med school

Thats part of my point.

They are taking me to the cleaners with interest and taxes but giving a highly discounted education elsewhere

I feel you b. All the work you put in, all the tax dollars you already give, it's never enough.

:smh: Upper middle class being taxed to death.

What does 2 years of free school have to do with your med school loans though? If someone wants be to a doctor after those first two years at a community college they will have to pay for that too.

he just talking about the tax increase he'll likely be faced with if this goes through, and honestly bro, he has a right to feel some type of way.

Gov takes damn near HALF of this mans money. C'mon....

The middle class is shrinking for a reason, the burden of the nation is squarely put on their back, it's really not even fair. You work that damn hard only to hit a ceiling and see your earnings picked apart.

Let the top 1% who lobby for wars and own these oil companies pay for this ****. That same 1% owns 42% of the nations wealth. Why should the middle class keep shouldering the load?

Not only the increased taxes but they are charging me an absurd rate of interest on my student loans which is tens of thousands of dollars in interest each year. How about they start by bringing down my interest percentage.

I agree bro, there's so many who have outstanding student loans that could use some relief.

this seems like putting a bandaid that don't fit on the nation's education conundrum.

Student loan debt is and is going to become a significant problem. You have schools charging 80k a year and then the govt loaning the money at outrageous interest rates. If someone goes into a lower paying specialty and come out with over 400k in loans paying it back is difficult at best
