Massacre in Nigeria

So no interest in resources means black lives don't matter?

I'm interested to see how the economic factor is connected to the race of the victims. Seriously, your perspective would be nice to know.

And I'll leave this here, folks may have missed it
Whenever I say I'm out I always feel compelled to come back

Your being an *** and dude is really asking for an answer you seem to have but your not telling us.

Why isn't there ever any coverage on the misfortunes and wars in Africa?

Only difference we are seeing is skin tone.

US never really cover african news tbh...that kony **** was covered because of how it took off on social networks. Average american thinks the whole continent of Africa is a "feed the children" commercial

what I mean is there are genuine economic ties to Europe... Second largest financial hub is over there...

We here about so much in the middle east... Why?

Because we have economic ties to them (oil)

We dont have eny ecominc ties to Africa so it goes unreported.

If (when) Americans start trying to get into Africa for their resources, stuff like this will be reported more, in my opinion.

all these radical Islamist groups are the same to me. **** them all. I'm not comfortable that this administration refuses to call it what it is. The double speak with make Orwell drool. Bush too. Crazy how little coverage this is getting.

1) someone posts black lives matter
2) I post that I don't believe race is a substantial factor relative to new coverage (it's on home page of BBC, CNN, etc btw)
3) you post: how else do you explain it?

Now you're onto economic factor, which I mentioned earlier in the thread, and which is obvious to me the real reason for the relative obscurity of this situation (also lack of exposure that Africa has in general, and that these extremist don't seem to have a message to share outside of their own environment)

So is it race or economics?

It can be both but you're not consistent, man

Its really both if you ask me because they essentially go hand in hand

thank you...

I was just looking for an alternative reason besides "they dont care about non white folks"

I think k that matters, but the econimcs behind it does too...

So Jonathan has enough time to tweet #jesuischarlie, but there's not a word on Baga, just like he waited two weeks before addressing the kidnapping of those girls. At least he is consistent in his ignorance and disdain for the people of Northern Nigeria. If he and Biya keep playing around with BH, we might end up with a situation similar to Syria (basically BH carving a state out of the northern portions of Cameroon and Nigeria).

THIS

I was amazed when I first discovered this. People legitimately thought Africa is just some jungle and starving kids.

For those upset about the lack of media coverage, we have to educate people on the issue(s) via social and other sources. This thread is a good start.

Very sad about this. Sounds like a very corrupt Nigerian infrastructure going on...

There we go, Africans can do no wrong, Europeans can do no right.
But this comment will flourish

NT gon' NT, I'm out
I'm legit asking man.
I seriously think that of we had any involvement with their resources... It should be MAJOR coverage...
A la middle east.
I think it's very much about resources. We can't afford to police the whole damn world anymore (well maybe we could, but we aren't gonna) and we sure as **** aren't going to if there's nothing for us to gain from it.

Cats gonna be on that, "why isn't the US getting involved tip?" and as soon as we do, "The US needs to stay the hell out of Africa and let Africa flourish." US can do no right. RIP to the victims.

I feel you... I think with the average person, they see america as this beautiful free land that's just trying to spread democracy and freedom like we have here...

And they dont get that in the end, it's about that damb dollar...

I heard someone on the news say Nigeria is not Western enough for the world to care. Straight up .

But African militants supported by Middle Eastern extremists is the issue, and European (read: white) people get brought into the mix, for what reason exactly?

I get it, this is a forum for folks to vent their frustrations, nothing wrong with that, but that agenda is apparent

$$$ is clearly the dominant factor, consequently Nigeria's global relevancy is weak (at best), and its presence in news is proportionate to that. That said, story still hit homepage of major new outlets, but no sweat
Boko Haram Appears to Be Using Abducted Girls as Suicide Bombers: Experts
Three suicide bombings by girls aged as young as 10 suggest that Nigeria's Boko Haram has employed a new tactic of forcing abducted children to blow themselves up, according to experts.

The Islamist sect has been carrying out almost daily killings and kidnappings across northeast Nigeria in a campaign of violence now in its sixth year. Deadly attacks on Saturday and Sunday were carried out by three young female suicide bombers. These came just days after a week-long killing spree by Boko Haram, in which the group torched at least 10 towns leaving around 2,000 people unaccounted for.

It is not clear if the girls were coerced or were even aware they were strapped with explosives, which may have been detonated remotely. But experts say that Boko Haram appears to be using the children it kidnaps — such as the 276 Chibok girls who sparked the #BringBackOurGirls social media campaign — and using them as a readily available supply of suicide bombers.
