Do you like living in/would you move to Phoenix AZ?

Some of you clowns and your geographic opinions. LOL

I'm from NY (Flatbush) and I'm in AZ now (just outside of scottsdale) because of work.

Nothing is New York. Plain and simple. You have 3 million people right off the ocean and it's been around since before the declaration of independence was signed.
Get off the high horse. NY and LA are outliers in a country that has pockets of greatness.

If you like to fish or hunt, do you care more about NY or does Washington ring your bell....?

I hate most of AZ but you know what I do like, quietness and the ability to raise my kid in an upscale environment. This isn't the Wild Wild west the news makes it out to be. There are just as many crazy people here as the Q train I take back home.
AZ has lots of flaws and while I maintain a NY residence it's always what you make of it.

I can tell you for those that knock it, at a certain price point, not only do people move but organizations as well.
AZ has a foundation on it, and most people don't realize who don't read into it, that the DOD has this state on lock.

Between the college system and the Air Force bases that pump 2 billion + annually, my properties are doing just fine and as the real estate market continues to do well across the nation, more and more snow birds come here to retire. That equals a higher price for properties.

Scottadale is where old money is. It'll always be that way and it's a great place to live.

While I plan to move back to NY in the next few years, those wondering if it's a nice place should simply book that flight and take a trip.
Fort Huachuca?

*whoops nevermind already answered

I'm sorry you don't live in a nicer part of the state...

I live in surprise which is middle class, and is a suburb outside of phx/scottsdale (eastern west valley) and I live in scottsdale when not working.
I don't have a skewed view. During my time in the military I've lived in 12 states and two countries and consider myself pretty well traveled.

My wife is from mesa/Chandler and I would have said a few years back that place is an absolute dump.
It's like me saying my street back home is a dump compared to the hamptons(same state different cities)

The whole point of my post was to chime in on how folks knock a state they don't know about.

I love atlanta and visit it once every few months. Lenox /peach tree area.
Would I want to live outside that ward near Smyrna where I travel for work, nope.

oh alright. you kind've came into the thread sideways calling folks clowns but seemed to have a fishbowl impression of AZ.

I'll say this about most folks who are commenting on AZ but never been here, they're generally more right than they are wrong. Straight up.

Also breh, living in 12 states for sporadic amounts of time =/= necessarily well travelled in the sense that you can't really gain a realistic feel about a place until you've settled down there for an extended period of time.

When I slight AZ, it's damn near a decades worth of me having lived here that's forming that opinion.

No shade being thrown.
I've been in AZ since 2006. I think 9 years is a good amount of time settled down.
Before that. 2 years at each location is ample time to explore discover and form a solid opinion. Especially with the side travel I do.

AZ, like any state, has its flaws but I'll tell you this much, no LA taco truck beats a filibertos burrito!!

Dudes who live in Scottsdale and PV live in their own Arizona separate from the rest of us. Any opinions on the state from y'all needs to be judged accordingly.

I was born and raised in Tucson, and am a black man so I think my view on the racism and other topics are appropriate here.

- Dudes in here making it look like AZ is the Deep South from the 1950's. It is not folks. The politicians and old people out here are racist, especially to Latinos, but in day to day life you'll be alright.

- Phoenix/Tucson have dangerous neighborhoods...... Like every other decent sized city in America.

Idk man, I feel like there is a lot of exaggeration when it comes to some of the descriptions being told in here. No this isn't California, but a good chunk of the states population moved here from CA. It's a nice place to live if you play your cards right.

Nico's taco shop. >>>> Filbertos :x

Filibertos are good but they can be hit or miss, I've found that once you find a good location, stick to that one because results vary.

You live in Surprise huh? Wouldn't mind moving out there or Peoria. Good home prices.

Ever been stung by a bark scorpion? I've been stung a gang of times now.

I was born and raised in Tucson

anything you say is tossed out the window bc you cant relate.. The thread is about the Phx metro area.

Not your tumbleweed town, outside of UA that place looks like a 3rd world country.

I can't really speak on Tuscon because I've only been there once and it was when I was really new to AZ, so I couldn't get a good feel for it.

Whole time I was there I was chillin' at my homies homie crib smoking loud. Didn't really get a chance to explore.

Definitely need to go visit.

I've owned two homes in surprise and a condo in scottsdale. In 9 years I've seen one scorpion.

Peoria/Surprise cost of living is pretty cheap and my surprise home was less then $190k for 2300sq feet in a luxury subdivision (Marley park)
I have the house in surprise because I work out at Luke for the DOD and in telling you, in the next 3-5 years this side of the valley is going to blow up.

The stuff going on at the base is ensuring that.
I expect 3-5% price increases year over year util 2019 on this side.
Good area. Quiet, very close access to everything (I-10 via the 303) and per cost basis, affordable.

Personal preference, I love scottsdale and the condo life. Probably because I grew up in a apartment

Most honest review in this thread.
I'm sorry you don't live in a nicer part of the state...

That seems like the best answer in this thread.  Like i said, I've lived here for past 8yrs and love it (lived in CA for 20yrs).  If you live in a crappy city, well guess what....you're gonna hate it.  Like in CA, if i lived in Norwalk one-ways....guess what...

I'm over at Desert Ridge area and it reminds me of living in Irvine, OC, Brea, Fullerton, etc.  So I guess my advice to you, which should be common knowledge is, live in a nice neighborhood?? LOL

You'll never eat Filbertos again after coming down here

Man, it kills me when other folks tell me they've never been stung by a bark scorpion.

Why me?

It seems to be new construction that brings them out. Either living in a new place or living next to a construction site.

Getting stung in your sleep is not the business.

Having insomnia for fear of being stung after getting stung is even worse.

no lie i just be f'n with you. you try to rep your state, you try hard as hell.

And he should.

No matter where you're from on this Earth, rep it til' you're 6 feet under.

I hate folks who don't stand behind the city/state that made them. My kids are born here, I'm not forcing my NY background on them. I 100% expect them to rep their mother state and I'm not even mad.

- The Mexican food sucks out here b, facts. I've had FAR better Mexican food in NY.
This is absolutely laughable.  New York has some of the worst Mexican food I have ever had.

California > Arizona >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> New York

Yeah? Well, that's just like...your opinion man.
Let me ask you this.....since I know you are a sports fan and I cant come up with a better analogy.

If someone was to say Smush Parker was a better basketball player than Kobe Bryant, would you be comfortable saying "well, thats just like.....your opinion man"?

ORRRR

Would you, like I just did, say that opinion is laughable?

Then you need to go to better spots.

NY has some of the best chefs/cuisine in the world.

I've had EXCELLENT mexican food in NY, and having lived out here in AZ for nearly a decade I've yet to eat something close to the food I've had back in NY.

So what's laughable about that?

You lived in AZ at all? Or just visited? If the latter, then your opinion is null and void.

You ever live in NY? If not your opinion is again voided.

And you're a lame for even attempting to make this about Cali vs NY.

Lived in New York for 4 month stints on 3 separate occasions for work.  My family lives in Arizona so I have been out there for 3+ weeks every year for the past 11 years.

I have multiple friends who live in NY (one of which lived in AZ for 5 years) who are California transplants....and they are all constantly *****ing about not having good Mexican food out there.

And I wasn't the one who brought up California, thank you.

I stand by my statement.

 So you yourself have never had mexican food in NY. Holla at me when you've been to de Mole, Tortiileria los Hermanos, Oaxaca Treasure etc, etc, etc.

Nor have you lived in AZ or NY for any amount of viable time (stints or visits to the family don't count).

Yeah your opinion has been voided, good day.

Stupid assumption that isn't even close to true.

Living in a city for FOUR MONTHS at a time on 3 separate occasions doesnt count?  Spending 3+ weeks in a state on ELEVEN separate occasions doesn't count?  A year worth of NY living and 33+ weeks of Arizona visiting does not make me qualified to speak on the matter?  I would love to know what the cutoff for being able to have an opinion is in your eyes.  Would I have needed to spend more than a year living in NY?  More than 33 weeks visiting Arizona?  Just stupid to say that my opinion is void because I never "lived" there.

1. Alright name some spots you've been to, tell me why they disappointed. More than likely you went to some ******** *** taqueria.

2. Nope. Visiting and living in a place for "stints" doesn't count.

I lived in NY for 20 years.

I've been in AZ for damn near a decade.

You have never lived in either place. It's like me saying I know LA because I've been there for months at a time (a cousin of mine used to live there before she moved to Michigan after getting married). I don't know ******* **** about LA compared to folks who have lived there for YEARS.
