$900 in car repairs OR New car Vol: Help me out NT

So obviously cars ain't my thing. Let me try to give y'all as much info as I can.

The estimate I got was from Christian Brothers Automotive. I know it's a chain so might me pricey, but I'm new in the city and haven't scouted around.

Labor alone is about $380

For the Brakes

Pad Kit $80
Disc Brake Rotor $151 (75 x 2)
Rear shoes $90
Wheel Cylinder $75 (37 x 2)
Brake System Flush $95

I might look into a DIY project and see if I stand a chance.

anybody got any ideals on motor mounts on a mitsubishi eclipse price wise?

For both you guys, find an independent shop that seems honest/fair, but does good work. Check yelp, goolge reviews whatever you have access to and find them in your area. Once you do go to rockauto.com and get your parts and have them install for you. Might help on the overall price for those big jobs.

Chances are you will only keep the car for another three years at most, no point in putting more into it than needed.

They can get in big trouble telling people that way but he must had trusted you.

What I do is search Craig's list. They post there and backyard mechanics.

I got a tuneup, transmission filter and flush , oil change all for like $80 one time. Didn't take dude no more then a hour

One time my rear manifold I take went out ,paid like $250 to get that fix

But there is some good mechanics on Craig's list. I had one from goodyear auto before

How do you verify their credientials?

How do you verify their credientials?
EXACTLY. Please don't listen to people telling you to get a mechanic off of craigslist. There's no way to verify they're any good. Even when you get recommended a mechanic the person giving you the recommendation should be able to tell you the they had a problem with their car and how this mechanic was able to fix it. A good mechanic will tell you what's your problem, why you have that problem, and what the solution is. They also won't throw parts at the problem and hope something fixes it. Also check yelp or Google reviews for more recommendations. If all else fails and you do decide to do it yourself he're's a write-up on a 1998 626 that should be the same set up as your 2000. This a video on the rear drums.

As far as the brake fluid flush. Your owners manual should be able to tell you what intervals to change it in. A lot of mechanics don't change it, a lot of drivers don't get it changed. Flushing my brakes the fluid looked like urine and feces mixed together. It was really dirty. Eventually that dirt gets clogged some where or does damage to your master cylinder or brake lines. Air will get in the lines which won't help you brake any better. Also brake fluid is extremely hydroscopic so it'll corrode brake lines internally.

Also don't feel bad if you can't do basic repairs on your car. There's a lot that some people can and can't do. You should learn though since it'll save you money in the long run and help you avoid mechanics trying to get one over on you. I started out doing basics like oil changes and tire rotations on my own car. Little by little I worked my way up to harder jobs until eventually I did an engine swap by myself with just hand tools. It just takes time.

I never did it ever , no car i worked on never did it as well, and I never heard of anyone else getting this done.

It's one of those things like a transmission power flush scam

I never ever heard of anyone getting it done in over a decade of me working on cars

My brakes be solid too, get the best ones dust free from Napa, they cost a little more but they bite and stop quickly

How do you verify their credientials?

I don't. But sometimes they come in work clothes. But you can tell how good they are if they got a van or truck full of tools

I think you can go online on that website. Type in their name to verify it, but just because they have credtionals don't mean they are goo

I never had a problem with a craigskist mechanic ever. If they are bad people will post bad reviews. Some awesome mechanic s on Craig's list that do work dirt cheap

bleeding the brake fluid is recommended after doing any job that has to do with brakes. most people (and mechanics) don't actually do it though.
i went to my mechanic to do my rear brakes, since it's a little more complicated than the front, and they didn't bother bleeding them either.
i think that it's ok not to bleed the fluid every time as long as there isn't too much play in the brake pedal when you press it.

knowing someone that knows a mechanic is a MUST though, kind of goes hand in hand with owning a vehicle.
as far as OP is concerned, I'll just reiterate what everyone has been saying here. Get the parts yourself and take them to a small shop to do them.
ANY shop that calls itself a mechanic shop should be able to do a brake job.
buybrakes.com is a good store, but Amazon is clutch when it comes to auto parts as well.
do your research OP

900 bucks?  you getting slotted rotors and 4 piston calipers on that bad boy???

you don't have to bleed brakes unless u replace calipers or crack a line allowing air to get in the system.
the brake flush might be a good idea with the age of the car.
if your rear brakes are worn, then replace them as well.

900 for brakes?!?

Man I replaced my clutch just by watching youtube videos. Buy the parts, the repair guide to your car, and get your hands dirty.

Where do you live bruh? I got a few days off.

I live in MD, if any NTers out here are looking to assist in any vehicle maintenance it me up.
