You can change it to 10 and nobody wontvaak or say anything. 2 is perfect if your single, 3 you will owe a little but not much
2 will be perfect! Actually you can do 3 but you will owe a little unless you have some deductions or credits such as the school credit etc

I am Single, No Kids, Paid Off School Loans, and work alot of overtime. What Number should I be claiming? 0,1,2?

I tend to work 5-10 hours a week overtime, so in a year I make an extra 5-10K from overtime.

I heard it's good to put down 0 in the beginning of the year, and then switch it at the end? Is there any truth to this? Any CPA out there? :nerd:

if i'm pulling in 100k for the year, single, no kids... can i expect a refund even if i claim 1 allowance or should i put 0 to be safe? :nerd:

Why people want big refunds is beyond me.

My state and federal refund is pending in my account should post on wednesday.

After this year I will see if I can adjust to claiming 3, currently claiming 2.

Feb 11 my money til be deposited to my account via turbo tax site. Very quick. I did it on the 28th of last month

nO NO NO! dONT USE 0, IT MAKES NO DIFFRENCE TO CHANGE IT AT THE END OF THE YEAR..sorry caps

you can claim 1 but that means you will get less back

You can claim 2 and even out

you can claim 3 but you will owe a little, not much at the end of the year

claiming 2 you will just about even out. When i was single i always claimed 2.. Just follow the irs w4 worksheet. i dont know why some many people ignore it. It says mark 1 if you have 1 job , mark 1 if you  are single etc.. Add those up and that equals 2.. so for a single person with a single job they should be claiming 2. why do people still claim 0 I have no ideal

Claming 0 only allows you to give the gov a interest free loan and you get the same money back at the end of the year... Its like giving me money every week out of your paycheck then I pay you it right back come tax time

Im not a cpa ..lol

Because they are brainwashed lol

now if you got kids and dont make that much money 30k or less in a year you will get some type of bigger refund anyway because of earned income credit either way nobody shouldnt be claiming 0 or even 1 if your single and have only 1 job, if you got kids you can claim higher...

Dont claim 0, claim what you are suppose to.. Just because you claim say 1 and i claim 1 dont mean they will take the same out of our checks. They may only take $20 out of mines and $80 out of yours because you make more and are taxed higher

If your single and have 1 job, you should be claiming 2

You can claim 0 or 1 but all your doing is giving out a free loan to the gov..

Lol yeah I am not voluntarily giving up my money to have a smaller paycheck for 12 months just to get a big lump sum returned to me. Thats stupid.

More money in my pocket and less for the govt.

So if i make more than 40 and less than 100k i will be good claiming 2? I still got a refund claiming 1, but def dont want to owe. I was thinking about claiming 2 for fed and 1 for state. Im a home owner too. Lol if i can do this with out oweing im changing my stuff ASAP

anyone in NYS getting a "your return needs further review" message? hope i'm not being audited

Look I just posted above the answeer to what your asking

It doesnt matter how much you make claim 2 if your single and only have 1 job.....

Your think ok I claim 2 they will only take out $10 a week, same goes for somebody making 15k a yearr.... NO.. Taxes will adjust to your income. You got your tax rate.

If i made 20k a year and claim 2 they may only take $10 a week out of my check but you making 80k and claiming 2 they will take $30 a week out your check  because we both have a different tax rate but at the end of the year we will both even out..Get it???

Regardless of how much you make it will even out

Actually Im very suprised as smart as yaw cats are, you guys dont follow basic directions on your W4 form..LOL It says if your single mark 1 and if you have only 1 job mark 1. add those up and that is 2

Alot of people dont know most are exempt and can mark that on your w4 and they will not take any fed taxes out at all because you usually get them all back at the end of the year. normally that is for low income people with kids who pay no tax,  or single adults in school with low income, so the gov says you can mark exempt since you will get your taxes back anyway

When I was in school I claimed exempt on my w4. My job took 0 fed  taxes out my paycheck!   i did it when i had a few other jobs because i was claiming my kid and other credits and i had no tax liability. Might of fact i need to tell my sister to do this because I did her taxes and she had no tax liability.

Look on the w4 form below #7   a person can claim exempt from federal taxes withholding if you usually dont pay taxes because you get it all back at the end of the year. Check your previous returns and see if you paid any tax and you expect the same this year

Here is the full W4 worksheet.

I dont know about state. I think state may be different from state to state and i havent seen there worksheet. we dont pay state taxes where Im at

But for your federal if your single and claiming yourself and have only 1 job then you can claim 2.. if you got kids or other people your claiming then you can go higher. Follow the worksheet above

Here is an exemption caculator from the IRS or use the w4 worksheet below. both are the same thing.. Use this , so you will even out!
Get more money back on your paychecks! Claim your right exemptions. nobody should be claiming 0 unless your parents are claiming you

Not their fault, they gave the right amount due. You just had some outstanding debt, and the people you owed told the IRS to intercept your money fam.

Or he has only received his state refund so far.

I received my state first then federal return its 2 separate deposits. TT doesn't lie about your return.
