Actually the first US broadcasting of Dragon Ball Z was September 13, 1996 (The same date Tupac supposedly died) this wasn't the dub we knew and it didn't do so good (the dub and the late night part had to do with it). They re-released Dragon Ball Z in 1998 with the dub we all know with the Bruce Falconer music and it was a huge successful, the original Dragon Ball (the adventures of Kid Goku) didn't premier until after DBZ premiered (2000-2002 I believe).
I like the sparkles too but the repainted pair doesn't look that bad. Weird cause a couple of weeks ago I was pro 2007. Walked into DTLR last week and completely changed my mindTerrible and pointless.
I may be in the minority but I like the sparkles. They remind me of the stars on the Aerospace poster. That's probably the reason all of the OG 8s had a glitter effect, to replicate the stars. The design of these were pretty futuristic for the time.
True, it actually had an english release (in several US cities, not a general public release) in the late '80s but the characters were renamed (Harmony Gold USA dub) this would be referred as "The Lost Dub", Then in 1995 Funimation acquired the rights but this time they used Ocean Productions (Ocean dub) (this is the one you were familiar with that aired before the 2001 release I was taking about). Both the late '80s and '95 dubs were not well received. Then Funimation dubbed their own version in 2001 (that's the one that became very popular among the US). So yes, you're right.Actually you're too young to remember this, but they aired Dragonball (with Kid Goku) in the fall of 1995 on Saturday mornings. It was before Funimation bought the rights. America was falling in love with anime and they wanted to branch out. I remember Ronin Warriors being a huge success at that time. But maybe because of the awkward time slot and the slow pace of Dragonball as a series is why it didn't last. They only showed it for one season (I don't know if they even completed a entire season's worth of episodes). There's a lot of cartoons that went under the radar at that time, for instance the Street Fighter, Double Dragon, Darkstalkers, and Mortal Kombat cartoons.

i moved to US in 96 from Taiwan. all i remember was my friends & I trolling our classmates sometimes with spoilers whenever they talk about dragonball because most of us foreign borned had already finished the manga. LOLZoids was my ish!
DBZ was lit growing up, i remember having huge DBZ tournaments
Whats crazy is that in Japan dbz ended in 96 and gt ended in 97...Actually you're too young to remember this, but they aired Dragonball (with Kid Goku) in the fall of 1995 on Saturday mornings. It started in Japan in 1989 and Toriyama was still doing the manga as the show went along. So it had a decent amount of filler in it (not compared to Naruto, One Piece, and Bleach). It only had 291 episodes. GT only had 64 episodes and the animated movie.Whats crazy is that in Japan dbz ended in 96 and gt ended in 97...
it would look better if they didn't leave the dull paintand....back to shoes.
the glitter removed looked stupid.
Did you guys order from NDC? Anyone in here order a Men's size from NDC and can confirm they also got a retro card or if they didn't?
