Truth...that's what's missing. there's just an over saturation of hip-hop music that is no longer driven by truth. Instead we have have these artist that make hip-hop music just for the "sport of it" instead of for the art of it. Back in the day, hip-hop artist weren't rapping about how many "Btches I Fked" or "how much money i got". They were rapping about just random **** about what was on their mind and in their hearts

Sick of the same formula being used over and over. Many songs use the same **** over and over to hook their listeners, (Ex. build-ups & drops). A lot of lyrics are either about going to clubs, taking rides, or just *****ing about the real world. Creativity has slowed way down because the formula works for a lot of people that dont care.

Besides my rants I think there is a lot of Promise in artists like J Cole, Kendrick, A$AP, Drake, Lil Dicky, and a few others.

Whats everyone elses thoughts on the current state of Hip Hop?

Too much trap talk everybody copying Gucci, talking bout da plug, finessin a sack (no homo), blah blah blah. im tired of all these copy cats, most rap dudes aint never done none of that. nobody is genuine no more, well almost nobody

BALANCE man period too many of copy cat artist...Ever since BMF dropped I swear it's like every producer & rapper wants that style of Beat...It's like everybody needs to go back to there regional formula...WEST COAST need to go back to G-FUNK/RIDER MUSIC, EAST COAST go back to that EAST COAST sound hard beats & rhymes....SOUTH need to just go back to basics as well....You got 90% of the artist in the game goin to the same generic producers it's like to me if a rapper is spittin over a "TRAP" beat & not from ATL they sound completely out of place...

It's not even that something's missing because there's a lot of different types of Hip Hop music out there. With so many different genres workings together, it's amazing some of the **** artist do or attempt to do. I just think Hip Hop fans are way too devided to ever be completely satisfied.

I'm Honestly very content with rap music right now. Got all of my bases cover with projects from Lupe,Krit,Cole, and Wale with Kanye and Kendrick coming up, and got my turn up **** with Future,Migos, Thug, RHQ etc, and all those rappers in between.

I'm sick of the standard hip hop sound. I want something to come along and change the game. That's all I can ask for. Dudes are going to constantly talk about dope, money, & **** aint going nowhere so I'll just listen to the small box of rappers I stay listening to.

bored with rap right now.

been listening to joey badass 1999 (first time listening to it) and it was cool.

Authenticity, originality and competitiveness.

Too many fake friends and BS collabs. Rap music is in deep **** right now.

This is the main problem. There is none.

The second biggest problem is people coming into the game with a viral/hot song. Had it been the 90's, 80% of these cats would still be working a minimum wage job. There's no technical skill in rap anymore.

The biggest problem is that its too easy to become a "rapper"

Most of yall are just wishing for the 90's, let that **** go & move on, social media killed originality, no region is gonna have their own sound anymore

Everything being mentioned applies to the commercial representation of hip hop.

The indie/underground/SoundCloud scene is damn near flawless right now.

How can you post something as well thought out and legit as this, then co-sign loads of pure mess  ?

To piggy back off this though, there truly isn't any balance at all, specifically on mainstream/Top 40 radio when it comes to rap. Sure, there's all these new avenues to find new music (soundcloud, YT, tumblr, etc), but that still doesn't always translate to it being heard everywhere. You can have 2 million views on youtube and it's possible that your song has never been played on the radio, and in turn nobody knows who you are. People are fooling themselves if they think the large corporations aren't pushing stuff, even with certain music getting loads of views listens.

Region based music is definitely where it's at. With the frequency of music consumption, region based music has pretty much been diluted, which is a shame. Thank god for ipods and a good amount of rappers who can still deliver quality music. I'd hate if I solely relied on MTV/BET and regular radio stations to hip me to things and make me think that that's all there is.

I don't know how anyone over the age of 20 can say they're content with rap music today. There's definitley quality rap albums every year but the trash outweighs the good by a significant amount. I appreciate the good and buy it but it's getting real bad.

The bad outweighs the good in EVERY genre. With how the music industry is, it's been like that for a long time.

Exactly.

I be telling ****** this all the time when they start complaining about the music that's out there. This ain't 98, you got the Internet put it to use. People gotta learn to stop relying on what the industry puts in front of their faces. It's a TON of indie artists out there making quality, creative music right now.
