Alright, been looking around for E3 stuff and stumbled in here to see what talk about X-men apocalypse was, I'll chime in.


As a summer action/kids movie is pretty cookie cutter. Not good, not "that bad", dumb, but entertaining for the most part (unlike that god awful Martha v Martha: Dawn of Martha). As a comic book movie I don't see how anyone who's a fan of the xmen, one of the deepest, most story driven, most issue tackling, most character driven pieces of comic book fiction, can be a fan of this.

I'm all for change and reinterpretation but at this points the characters are only the characters by name. I could go character by character and say what they did wrong but I'm sure someone here has done that already so I'll just choose a couple main ones

Apocalypse: what the hell was he even in the movie for? Seriously, he didn't do anything except tell magneto to "destroy the world", the same world he wanted to enslave? How many mutants did he kill during that HORRIBLY animated world ending sequence? He also had the powers to make sand a weapon? Lol what the ****? All the powers to kill yet when it came down to beating the xmen he used karate to beat quick silver and put Cyclopes inside a wall for..... reasons followed by strong arming mystique without killing her because.... plot.

Wolverine: did they already immidiatly forget wolverine origins and dofp? I've said it before and I'll say it again Jackman is a horrible wolverine. Part of his charm and character is his stature. "But short wolverine would look dumb" well, so does Tio Sanchez tank top wolverine. It's time to hang it up and recast. That scene between him and Jean looked more pedo than anything else.

Jennifer Lawrence: yes, not mystique, he nerfed Lawrence. She basically played herself in this movie in one of the most laziest performances ever in a movie. She was blue for only maybe 5 mins and had the same clothes on the whole movie. I'm pretty sure they knocked out all her stuff in 2-3 days.


Overall you can look at this movie in 2 ways, a children's movie or a comic book movie. As a kids movie, no logic, no thinking required, it's a serviceable 6/10 (same score is give the newest TMNT movie). As a comic book movie is give it a 4/10 for its outright disregard for source material, absolutely horrible cgi at times, and seemingly REDOING what they wanted to undo in the first place which is just mind boggling.


Final verdict: would leave on when it comes on tbs while I clean the house/10

. Apocalypse ship thing being solar powered.... So nobody has EVER left that curtain open at all? Not at all? Not once?

. "You're X-men!" Cringe
. Apocalypse using Xavier's power to throw middles into the air but A. Didn't use them to kill some people as he had no problem telling mags to destroy most of the world, B. Didn't just kill those people to begin with
. Learning all information needed by TV touching. Cmon man
. Apocalypse believes he's a God and above all yet first thing he does is hide himself in a hoodie.

2. have 90% of take place in the school.

3. have a smaller scale villian that is a metaphor for discrimination like all the best x men villians.

4. have more sequencens where a young mutant is discovering their powers.



Its not hard, not more planetary threats. Xmen is about otherness.

yes, except take it farther and no more period piece shtick.

They brought singer back and abandoned what made First Class a breath of fresh air.




Honestly X-men should be closer to Harry Potter than it is to Transformers or some other CGI explosion fest.
 
^ I guess you've missed what I've said a million times in here..

first class should have been a clean cut reboot.. you have the magneto origin part.. and you show young Charles, except you show the struggle with him and his stepbrother/stepfather (and we all know who that stepbrother turns into eventually)

then you have the real first class xmen and show how they ended up at the school (marvel girl, beast, Cyclops, angel and iceman).. with Cyclops you get the nugget of mr sinister

then you have some minor villain (say sauron).. and you show the growing tension between the views of magneto and Charles.. after credit scene could be the government/trask starting the sentinel program after the events of the film

well I guess im repeating stuff thats been said.


all of this just goes to show how ridiculous it is when people complain about Marvel Studio's, when the other studios are either


a) botching extended universes. (BvS)

b) wasting awesome storylines/characters ()X-men)

c) making a movie so bad it may renders the characters useless for the rest of time. (F4)

d) making sequels to movies nobody liked in the first place. (snow white and huntsman 2, TMNT2, Ride Along 2, ect ect)


Meanwhile Marvel is a machine that pumps out minimum solid movies almost every time, and even their worst stuff is better than most summer movie trash. I'm guitly of it too I don't give them enough credit.


Marvel studios might be underrated now that I think about it. :lol:
 
I am amazed at how poorly a job fox/xmen/f4 and WB/DC are doing

wb/DC have the animated movies to fall back on..

and fox just has to set up the villains and then build to the event films later on (DOFP and phoenix saga shouldn't be til wayyyy down the line).. and with the incoming xmen you have them connected to major villains that will be introduced later on (and also expands the universe globally.. think storm, colossus and nightcrawler)

fans love that stuff.. you can link Cyclops' past to mr sinister.. or show the other things sinister was doing and his connections to gambit.. could introduce omega red when you intro colossus

then you show the story of angel losing his wings and the impact that has on the kid who has privileged his whole life (and obviously that is leading to apocalypse eventually)

and even though mystique doesn't have the huge role she has in the films, could she show her connections to roque.. and have her doing little stuff

Still decent. I mean if X3 and Xmen origins didn't kill this franchise, we're probably not getting the reboot we deserve anytime soon.

As for a reboot, It won't happen. Sad part is they've once again written themselves into a wall.

this is currently at 402 on a 178 mill budget

that HAS TO say something to fox, right?
 
I'm disgusted that it made 400 mil overseas. Get with the program, foreign ppl. :/

Back to watching again.. Just got to the Jean nightmare scene

If fox keeps singer around, they going screw up the whole Phoenix storyline again







Scene in the forest with mags was good, should have just let him be the primary villain.. Have Charles sense something after his family dies then mags killing the officers

Then they communicate with one another.. Mags tells Charles he tried but mankind will never accept mutants blah blah





Jesus apocalyse looks horrible and the cgi for whatever was done to dude in the wall is horrible (like the mummy level).. Already don't like where this storm thing is going

There are salvageable things.. Could see the kid working as Scott summers, Sansa.. Obviously fassbender and mcavoy

But man, I've seen Oscar Isaac do too much to get wasted like this :smh:
