So just got done seeing Deadpool.

Going to give my two cents. Like it or not, just kinda understand where I'm coming from.

Was it good? Yes!

Was it fun? You bet.

Was the R rating as bad as people made it to seem? No.

I went into this movie expecting the worse. The level of blood and gore and killing isn't as high as say Blade 1 or 2. The strip club scene was the worst of the sexual stuff. Language was bad but it just depends of what your kid has access to. If they listen to rap, it's not going to be a problem.

I loved this interpretation of Colossus. Everything about him was perfect to me. Him and NSTW were the highlights for me. Being honest, I would probably take my son to see it for Colossus alone. He loves dude.

Yeah, there's very bad things going on. With that said, at least there's no nudity in the sex scenes. No sex in the nudity scenes (girls with tops off). It just really depends on your parenting style. Not knowing your kids ages but if the kid still takes baths with their mom then seeing topless girls isn't going to be major. If you listen to a bunch of rap around your kid or go to Walmart or corner store or barbershop, the language isn't going to be all that bad. TV and video games have so much violence as is that the killing in the movie probably won't be a big deal. It's not brutal killing like being tortured to death and stuff. No guts and excessive blood like 300 or a QT film. With that all said, I'd cover my son's eyes on the sex scene because although no real nudity, the sexual positions, and the strip club scene. But I'd be ok with the rest of the film. A lot of the stuff will fly over the head of a kid under 10. Kids 11 and up already can find ways to see those images and hear those words in music anyway.

The kids there seemed to like it. I constantly scanned the theater to see their parents reactions to scenes. There were 4 families there and each made their kids cover their eyes or turn away during the sex and strop club scenes. That was it.

I'm not trying to say it's ok for kids but just trying to make a case for parents debating on taking their kids. If you've always taken your kids to see superhero films, go ahead. It's not as bad as it's made to seem. I've heard it was lucky to only get a Rated R rating.

Deadpool is good because for all the bad things it has, it's still a mainstream comic book movie. Can't really describe it but in a weird way think of the comedy of Guardians of the Galaxy. Ok, now think of Star Lords and Rocket's gun on kill and Drax and Gemora cutting heads off. Really the closest thing I could think of lol.

Movies I feel that are just as bad or worse;

300 (more gore and blood)
Blade (more gore and blood)
Blade 2 (more gore and blood)
Kill Bill (more gore and blood)
Kill Bill 2 (more gore and blood)
Wanted (more gore and blood)
Kick *** (more gore and blood)
Kick *** 2 (more gore and blood)

Lastly, although I really liked it, it's not as great as some of y'all have said. I still say from Fox that SM2 and X2 are the top but Deadpool is third. Only film I could even consider at 3 is DOFP. With that said, Fox is really onto something. It's an area Disney can't go so it shows the MCU's limits. Fox has none. If Fox can continue to these kind of movies and attract audiences, MCU will be start to have trouble. If Wolverine does indeed go rated R, watch out!

Deadpool

Like anyone else, I was wondering if they could pull this off. R rated, Reynolds as the main star, budget, villain + added characters, story, action, CGI, etc. I had no idea if they would be able to pull it off to the level of the other CBM’s of today.

During the opening credits, I was already laughing. The opening shot, already had the crowd going. The original scene they used to gain the funding was tweaked, but worked perfectly for what they were goin for. I was in. And by the time it wrapped, and I waited for the after credit scene, I can’t wait for the sequel.

I remember thinking Reynolds was one of the only good parts of Wolverine Origins, but they of course gave him 5 minutes of shine, then that abomination of Mutant X. But his mouth runnin the whole time and his skills with the swords showed he could be cool if they could do that for 2 hours.

They did. He did. And I hope they do it again and again.

They did have a “thin” cast, with the CGI Colossus, and the weird girl who I have no idea who she is, but DP clearly eased everyone off that worry with his jokes about them being the only 2, and the studio was too cheap to pay for a 3rd, etc.

If you don’t know much about the source material, you could still love the film, and jump into his world easy, and if you did know the comics themselves, you could appreciate his effort at making the Merc with the mouth so damn mouthy. Crude as hell, but he nailed it like he was Van Wilder the Ninja years or something. I was surprised to see Barbara from Gotham as his girl, but she played the part well enough. Gina was eh, the main villain was decent, but not sure how memorable he’ll be, it really came down to all Reynolds, all the time. He dominates the screen the whole time, even with voice monologues and wisecracks off screen. But he was enthralling. He was literally the perfect Deadpool. I can’t imagine anyone else that coulda pulled him off.

There were soooooo many quotables, it would take multiple viewings to get thru them all. Some of my favs that I caught were the Stewart or McAvoy reference, the Jackman quips, the middle finger, the whispering to the cab driver, the hero speech near the end he ignores ( ) the “have you seen this man?” and it’s a damn crayon drawing   the bullet countdown and him wasting a couple “worth it” and those are just the ones I could pick up and retain quickly. He was firin them off one after another.

I don’t see how they can cross him over later. He can’t show up in a regular X-Men movie and not cause problems script wise. He would be calling Mystique J-Law, or hey #2 Magneto, or I loved you in Prisoners, etc. He would be neutered in other films. Our best bet is cameo’s in his franchise where the rules are clearly set differently and we understand to expect the humorous side of his stories. That won’t work in the more “serious” films.

I don’t know where it will stack up with all the others, they are so different in terms of a dark tone like TDK or Winter Soldier vs a slapstick version like this. In terms of just origin films, this is way up there for what the actual character is supposed to be portrayed as. There’s holes, it’s not a terribly deep film, and he is pretty much the only memorable performance and everyone else is kinda meh level, but he carries it so damn well. RDJ nailed Iron Man, and was great in his first movie, but I’m not sure he outperforms what Reynolds just pulled off. (also not sure it’s fair to compare when they are so different in what their end goal was)

I need another watch or two to pull everything in, but I loved my initial viewing and have high hopes for where they go next. I’m really glad everyone else has been positive with it, tho I know that will change over time. Curious what they’ll do with a bigger budget going forward. Hope they don’t get too crazy and go over the top and lose sight of what they could do with 3-4 films total and make this franchise a really huge deal. I kinda wonder if they try to “cure” his look so he can be just regular Ryan again and move around without his mask and what not. That seems like something they would try to force in so he can get screen time without the mask and not do crazy makeup and what not for those scenes. We’ll see.

7/8

Maybe it's cuz I don't like Deadpool but I know I didn't enjoy coming in here seeing the thread had jumped a bit thinking it could be updates about anything X related seeing just a string of DP ads from pics to vids granted that was going on way longer than the marketing I saw outside of NT. Became more tiring than pointless tweets Singer does.

Outside of the internet, I'd agree the marketing plan was well executed. I didn't see any heavy DP marketing on tv or on buses/train until 2 weeks before the movie came out and at that point it came off more endearing.

Interesting stuff here.. particularly how the last second budget cuts impacted the highway fight scene and the end battle. I wouldn't have guessed that Deadpool forgetting his guns wasn't in the script originally.. I thought that was hilarious and a perfect twist on the "big finale fight". Little things like that makes the movie even more impressive with how they managed to work around budget restrictions. Compare that to a ton of other movies where limitations or sudden changes resulted in a noticeable worse movie.

Watched it again, I got to enjoy more things outside the laughs. I enjoyed the chemistry Deadpool and Vanessa had. I loved the fight scenes. And the easter eggs for spiderman and wolverine. All the pictures and figures of deadpool in the background. This made me appreciate the respect the writers miller and RR had for the character. Def one of my favorite comicbook movies.

6.5/8

Movie was dope overall but some of the jokes just completely missed to me. However, the ones that did hit were great and made up for most of that flat ones. The action was nice but definitely could have been better with a higher budget. Vanessa, Colossus, NTW, the blind lady, and TJ Miller all brought something to the table and were great additions. Looking forward to the sequel and the addition of you know who.

When Ajax the pole through him during the fire, it reminded me of T2 and I thought Wade was going to make a reference to it.

end scenes locations concept art

io9 actually caught up with artist Emmanuel Shiu, and he told the site that, "he was asked to redesign the helicarrier so it looked as different as possible from the one in The Avengers. And it had to look like it had been taken apart in some places."

6.5/8 is fair

it was a very good movie but not an all time classic or anything. I dont even feel the need to rewatch

 @ dudes complaining about a 6.5.

Everybody that sees it is just suppose to slob on it?

Don't be prisoners of the moment.

Deadpool was fine. reasonably funny. You can tell they have affection for the character, interested to see what they can do with a bigger budget.

swearing seemed a little gratuitous, like they were trying to hard to get an R.

6.5/8 is still a B-

Seems fitting.

I'd give it a solid B (to B+).. Movie wasn't perfect.. But it was great to see Reynolds deliver in the role.. And the chemistry between Reynolds and morena

To see colossus actually played to character (wasn't a fan of the look, but again the budget).. And negasonic was a entertaining character

You could really tell they were short on the budget, since most of the action was shown in the trailer

Villains were forgettable.. Even though I wouldn't mind both in henchmen type roles, but not as the main bad guys

The movie excelled within the limitations it had.. They have a very stable foundation to build upon

I'm talm bout this flawed /8 rating you heathens are using. Stop being communists and do an /5 or /10 rating like everybody and they mama do.
