Do you guys think most of this Trank stuff is CYA stuff, totally true or a mixture of both?

I think it's a mix of both but it doesn't change much. I still FOX is bad for these Marvel movies. They should just stick to adapting Mark Millar comics. If they were really smart (which they're clearly not) they'd also deal with other comic creators like Vaughn and Fraction to try and adapt their comics.

And as for Trank, I was indifferent towards him. Now I think he's a bad director and bit of a basket case.

Not even touching the content of the adaptation (traits/history of the characters or the tone of the movie vs comics), this was just a mess from top to bottom.

It might be one of THE textbook cases of how much editing can effect a movie. If people ever talk about directing, editing and all that, show them this movie. Scenes abruptly ended, huge chunks seemed to be missing, and good god the continuity issues with Mara's hair... that just shows a lack of caring. I honestly thought I blacked out and missed 40 minutes of the movie. We go from them being changed to that time jump and I was more than confused. And yeah.. I know critics and reviews mentioned the 3rd act, but man did I not expect it to be that bad. 3rd acts are always the hardest in a screenplay, but I cannot imagine this  was what they came up with originally. We find him, everyone makes up, then Doom comes back, and then the movie ends like 15 minutes later.

This missing from this movie... action. It's a superhero movie and where's our great action sequences? Character development.. I know it's an ensemble so you're not going to get everyone a great arc even in a 2-2.5 hour movie.. but in the 90 minutes we got? Not a chance. I would have been happy with focusing on Ben and Reed, show some of the romance between Reed and Sue, the rivalry with Doom and Reed, and follow those through the rest of the movies. What do we get? Ahh forget it... I don't even want to think about how bad this movie was.

Like it's kind of annoying me to point out all the flaws in this movie. There's some positive groundwork in the first act, but once they get their powers and they do that time jump it all falls apart.

Movie was really disappointing not because it wasn't great, but because it was technically so awful. Give me a version of this movie that at least satisfies the basic requirements for a good movie. Some character development and arc, scenes that have conflict, acts that build, action set pieces, decent dialogue, etc., and we could at least enjoy it a little and even if it isn't a great CBM, at least we could like it in some way.. but this? I just want to forget about it.

I don't think Trank is incompetent, he clearly has talent and I'm inclined to believe that the studio's interference and lack of faith in his vision deserves more blame than Trank himself.

but

Judging from the rumors, Trank's behavior during production contributed to that lack of faith. It just reinforces the rule that we all would do well to remember, it doesn't matter how smart you are or how talented you are if people think that you're an *******.

I hope Trank gets another shot, I hope this doesn't hurt MBJ and Kate Mara's career and I truly hope that this is it for the fantastic four on film.

Why does Max Landis have his own F4 script he's been writing?

Not to mention it's another origin :smh:

You know what I'd do is if I was writing this reboot? I'd fast track their origin in the very beginning. Think what they did at the start of Wolverine Origins showing him in all of those wars with Victor. I'd just quickly show the 4 building the rocket, rushing off to space, hit by cosmic rays, crash landing and changing. Show the Marvel logo and the movie starts en media res.

Honestly, with Fox and Sony they just need execs who are comic book fans

Easier said than done.

At this point we kinda get what pathway is going to work and what isn't going to..

I keep thinking about the story Kevin smith tells when he was asked to write the script for superman (if you haven't seen it, you GOTTA watch it.. Posted it in the spoiler):

It's like 'the wolverine' someone had to be sitting there like "transformers makes a ton of money, how about we turn silver samurai into a huge robot".. I guess I should be happy they didn't turn him into a cloud

Like in DOFP, instead of giving mystique powers she doesn't have.. As the deleted scene suggested sentinels could have captured roque..

And you have all of the comics and cartoons to go off of.. Use the source material

Hell to make things less confusing, they could have gone the terminator route like the 90s cartoon and have forge build a time machine.. Once they capture roque it's all over, literally just have to have someone say "they have adapted roque' powers" show how bad things really are

To add to what people have said, from the reviews I have read, there seems to be a general consensus that there's at least a half hour missing from this movie. I'm looking forward to more behind the scenes drama leaking. Anyone think Trank's career may be done after this?

makes sense because theres a part in the movie that just fast forwards and says 1 YEAR LATER. I'm guessing that's where the 30 min of extra footage should have been.

That Kevin Smith interview was good and hilarious. Shows how much an original vision can get thrown off track. The giant spider

That Kevin smith video is straight GOLD!

Max Landis posted 4 pages of his F4 script.

Not sure how anyone else sees it, but IMO this is a punk move. His justification for posting it is laughable.
Yeah it felt like he was looking for attention and embarrassing Trank and FOX with the implication that his script/vision was better.

Good sport

Now I need to see some vids and memes adding some Whiplash scenes in to F4 with JK abusing Miles.
