"The Big Lebowski" Movie Appreciation thread

I've still never seen this. Keep thinking I should.

One of my top 10

Sherry in 'Logjammin': [on video] You must be here to fix the cable.

Maude Lebowski: Lord. You can imagine where it goes from here.

The Dude: He fixes the cable?

At one point during a Q&A with the cast, Bridges asked the crowd, "What do you think of the theory that Donny does not exist, do you believe that?" to which the crowd immediately responded, "Yes! Yes! Duuuuude!"

Buscemi, who played Donny in the film, agreed. "Yeah, that Donny is just a figment of Walters imagination," he chimed in.

Goodman then took the opportunity to deliver one of his immortal lines in the film. "Shut the **** up, Donny!" he said. According to E!, the crowd went nuts.

Favorite part of money I really can't even choose one really cause the whole damn movie is full of classic scenes in their own right. But it's obviously the Walter scene with Smokey.
Walter - "Smokey this is not Nam, this is bowling, there are rules. Am I wrong? :smokin :smokin

Donny to me after further investigating seems to be = Holy Spirit. He's always there but he kinda isnt. He's always in the middle of dude and walter. He throws strikes every bowling scene he's in until right before his incident. which in itself is a connumdrum. Also have heard that the reason Donny was always told to be quiet in this movie was because in the previous Coen brothers movie with Buscemi was Fargo and his character never stopped talking through the whole movie.

Gotta kinda let someone lay the plot out for u to really appreciate it. Not hard to follow or anything. Just kind of a lot of smbolism. That's why it took a lil while for fans to catch on to what story is actually being told and whom the actors really are portraying. Some say it's a modern day portraying of what "Jesus" - the Dude would be like in today's world.

its a really grouding movie...theres so much i feel like i need in this world, money, cars, boats, and then i think like the Dude...

all you need are some good friends, a rug, and some hobbies and i feel better about the things i never did accomplish, knowing they are societal standards/measurements, and not my own, which would make me truly happy

Well said. Repped. "All The Dude ever wanted was his rug back." Some scholars have equated the rug into the symbolism as well. Everything seems to have a deeper meaning. Even the bowling pins. Then the whole ordeal about him being mistaken for another Lebowski who appears to be extremely rich and powerful. Yet is handicapped. And Vane. Which ties into more of the Bible symbolism where some believe it was equal to Jesus being mistaken for "God" in the movie.
