THE OFFICIAL 2015 FANTASY BASEBALL THREAD

I dropped out of
so NT doesn't care anymore for fantasy baseball
I dropped out of the league because the draft was scheduled for today. Didnt want to be stuck in a four person league. Im willing to join/play in this league as long as we have at least 10 people down.

Any open spots please add me

If Smooth rejoins, 2 others that have invites pending would make 7. We'd need 3 more to make 10......I pushed the draft back to next Sunday already

I can get atleast one more to make it 8

Well I'll be posting a lot of info in season for all you guys since I don't play in the NT lgs

Had my draft in my big money league last week and I feel it went well. Question, should I drop Segura for Danny Duffy? Its a 10 teamer league H2H.

Who do you guys like at short stop this year? I'm keeping Reyes in the NT league but my other league idk who to target. Reyes seems to go a little too early for my liking. And Starlin presents good value later on.

Besides the obvious names of Ramirez and Desmond...I like Marcus Semien, Alcides Escobar, Danny Santana, Chris Owings, Jung-ho Kang if he gets the starting job over Mercer.

Semien is buzzing.

Escobar is going to be batting at the top of that lineup so that's bonus reasons to like him. Santana is a bounce back guy, Owings has 15/15 skillset, and Kang has big power for the position.

I like Alcides for good value late. Not a fan of Desmond whatsoever. Think it's a mistake drafting him early.

never viewed him as this quasi elite player. me personally, i rather use that ADP spot on someone else and just take castro later on. feel like you'll get similar numbers this year.

-----------------------------

So with the players that were kept I tried projecting who I would be getting. My plan, with the 9th pick of 10 teams, was to put Hanley, Desmond, Kemp together in some fashion. For whatever reason - Hanley went 3rd overall, Bryce slipped to me at 9 and I couldn't pass on him. I really went OF heavy early going with Bryce, Kemp, Heyward, Jay Bruce in the first handful of rounds. Top pitchers were being kept so I wasn't reaching for anyone.

I'm REALLY high on Kemp this year. I think Heyward is in a great position with STL, and I think Jay Bruce bounces back big time with 30+ HR.

In terms of pitching the top 2 available guys were Felix and Zimmerman and they went early so I was going to try and wait. I did - i took my 2nd pitcher - Gio Gonzalez in the 5th round and didn't take my 3rd Jose Quintana (who i love this year) until round 9. But I tried to build on high upside guys, who are in favorable situations. James Paxton is really low on rankings, but when healthy he's a top 30 pitcher. Andrew Cashner should be the ace of the Padres staff, as long as he is healthy. So far he's been rock solid. Colin McHugh is one of those not sexy names but puts up numbers, and Danny Duffy is a break out guy this year, more so than he did last year. We play with holds but I love the strategy of waiting on closers and then putting solid bullpen arms around your staff for high K's and low WHIP and ERA. So even if you want to punt saves in your league you can - by loading up on elite bullpen guys like Watson, Davis, Farquhar. Shane Greene is one of those not sexy names also, but look at his numbers and you'll see that with Detroit, if things go as planned, he could be a big time breakout pitcher.

What sucked was I started with 88 players in my queue list, and by the time the last few rounds came up I had about 44 players left in there. I like to credit my preparation for that. But it's also frustrating because there is SO MUCH talent you just need to know where it is.

I'll list a bunch of guys I'm really high on this year along with high upside pitchers and bullpen guys. I love finding the hidden bullpen gems.

So what do you guys think?

@venom lyrix....without knowing what pitchers were available for you to draft in the first couple rounds, I am not sure if what I am about to say is valid in the slightest bit, but.....

I think it was a huge mistake drafting all of those outfielders early and choosing offense over pitching.  With Abreu, Jones, Donaldson, Ellsbury and Harper on the squad, I think it was not in your best interest to go for Kemp and Heyward next.  You definitely should have drafted a pitcher or two there.  Having Gio as your #2 is really scary in my opinion.

I totally agree on your assessment of pitchers like Duffy, McHugh and Greene.  They absolutely could have big breakout years. In fact, I would bet on at least one of them doing so.  However, if you would have combined one or two of said breakouts, with Scherzer and another top of a rotation arm, you would have been in much better shape.  Now, you are essentially COUNTING on one or more of those guys breaking out.  And if they don't, your staff will be near or at the bottom of the league.  I just think that if you would have drafted one pitcher early, you could have built one hell of a staff if these upside guys turn out.  Now, you have way too many question marks.

The outfield connundrum I got myself into was never a part of my plan but based on value and the fact that I like to target multi category guys, it fit my plan. You also have to remember that we already started with 50 players off the board.

The first 8 picks went:

Trout
Miggy
Hanley
Cano
Felix
Tulo
Zimmerman
Desmond

The next best pitcher available after Zimmerman...was Cole Hamels. Of the 50 players kept I believe 20 were starting pitchers so there was a massive drop off.

I picked Gio because of a few things, A. he added 15-20 lbs of muscle this offseason and he has shown in the past that he can be an ace. On that staff as a #4 pitcher where he will be matched up against other #4's = a lot of potential.

Fair enough.  Cant say I don't understand the logic.  Just me personally, I would be nervous.

On a side note....I don't understand how your league functions.  It is a keeper league.....so why on earth are players like Trout, Miggy, King Felix, etc. not kept?  Makes no sense as a casual observer.  And yes, I understand you have limits on years you can keep a player.  But if you have kept a player for 2 years and can no longer keep them, why not trade?

Example:

I have Mike Trout and kept him for 2 years...making him ineligible to be kept again.

You have Miguel Cabrera and kept him for 2 years....making him ineligible to be kept again.

Why didn't you and I trade Trout for Cabrera?  Seems ridiculous that these guys didn't do that.  Lack of foresight and planning IMO.
