THE OFFICIAL 2015 FANTASY BASEBALL THREAD

i like the way our keepers work where we can keep them forever. i've got a contingency plan going in that regard

Fair enough.  Cant say I don't understand the logic.  Just me personally, I would be nervous.

On a side note....I don't understand how your league functions.  It is a keeper league.....so why on earth are players like Trout, Miggy, King Felix, etc. not kept?  Makes no sense as a casual observer.  And yes, I understand you have limits on years you can keep a player.  But if you have kept a player for 2 years and can no longer keep them, why not trade?

Example:

I have Mike Trout and kept him for 2 years...making him ineligible to be kept again.

You have Miguel Cabrera and kept him for 2 years....making him ineligible to be kept again.

Why didn't you and I trade Trout for Cabrera?  Seems ridiculous that these guys didn't do that.  Lack of foresight and planning IMO.

Okay so our keeper system works as follows. I draft Trout this year, I can keep him for the 2016 and 2017 season. After the 2017 season he goes back into the draft. He only has 2 years of keeper eligibility no matter who the owner is.

Whats an appropriate draft position for K Bryant???

Depends if you believe the hype.

I'd say he can be picked after Donaldson, Miggy, Frazier, Arenado, Beltre Seager, Longoria, Wright. So about round 10 is where I'd be okay with it.

I got offered Puig and a closer for my Adam Jones.

I didn't grab any closers in the draft and I'm not entirely worried about that. I do have a claim in for Joe Nathan.

Is this really a good deal? Puig can be inconsistent and the way I setup my keague, K's do count for negative. Adam Jones is just solid. More than solid. Not the same ceiling, but I know who he is.

Thoughts?

And johnnyredstorm johnnyredstorm : I grabbed d'Arnaud as my second catcher to Brian McCann based on his potential. What is expected of him this season over your way, but mostly what's your opinion about him.

venom lyrix venom lyrix : Would like to hear your thoughts as well on both.

If he plays like he did second half of the year, he should be a consistent catcher. His homers and RBIs are in line first vs second half of the year, but his slugging percentage, babip and OBP improved, giving me the perception that he might've been figuring things out and discovering how to be a solid hitter. I like him as a backup if you're into keeping two catchers, gives you pretty decent risk-reward. I'll probably be targeting him to start for my team, but only because I don't draft a catcher till the last few rounds and I need a reason to watch Mets games.

Much appreciated JRS.

Yeah, I drafted him with one of my last two picks instead of any closer simply for that risk/reward ratio you mention. I doubt I'll carry two catchers for too long as in a perfect scenario both guys start hot and I leverage one in a trade. Most likely McCann because not many in my league know about d'Arnaud I think.

Now that I have him though, I don't wanna drop him unless he starts the first month of really bad like.

around there is when i'd target him as well.
Thanks fellas. 10 team league, picked him up in the 7th. Probably reached but I knew he wasn't going to last long in this particular league.

Kris Bryant keeps holding up these expectations, man.

Got him in the keeper and drafted in another league. We got a roster slot for N/A, so it won't go to waste, but he's got me excited on the possibilities. He just keeps raking! Like, does not stop crushing the ball. Ever.

I would've taken him at 7th if my core was strong just to lock it up. I wanna own him in my other league.

I want no parts of Puig. Sorry, the guy has never hit 20 hrs and never hit more than 69 RBI. He is an athletic player who is all hype and no substance right now. Meanwhile, Adam Jones is as consistent as it gets.

Travis d'Arnaud could be the Mesoraco of last year. The issue with him is the contact rate and lowering the amount of strikeouts. He whiffs soooooooooooooooo much. I like McCann this year a lot.

Who are some players you guys will be staying away from this year?

Troy Tulowitzki

he won't hit like this in the MLB, it's not realistic. Please keep in mind this is the grapefruit league and players with jersey numbers in the 80's and 90's are pitching to him

Definitely. I don't seriously thinks he hits at the same rate in the bigs, but he's certainly an exciting prospect.

Much appreciated, Venom.

I feel good staying with Jones.

I have him on my team in my keeper league also. Just look at his numbers since 2011:

2011: 159 hits, 25 hr, 83 rbi, 12 steals, .280 BA, .319 OBP
2012: 186 hits, 32 hr, 82 rbi, 16 steals, .287 BA, .332 OBP
2013: 186 hits, 33 hr, 108 rbi, 14 steals, .285 avg, .318 OBP
2014: 181 hits, 29 hr, 96 rbi, 7 steals, .281 avg, .311 OBP

hasn't missed more than 11 games in a season since.

Really liking your team, man. I'm really high on d'Arnaud, Soler and Arcia this year, all three have a chance to break out in a big way. Your pitching is pretty solid also

what are the stat categories? If you're playing with OBP I like your team more than if it's avg.

I think Avg (again if you're playing with it) and steals are going to be your struggle point.

That being said I think your team is okay, can probably sneak into the playoffs, but I'd be more comfortable with 2 more BIG bats, more 5 tool players, I feel like you have a lot of guys who are 8th-15th round picks but no 1st and 2nd round bat-types.

Keep in mind you already have injury concerns with Sale and Wainwright. Werth is already out for 4-6 weeks, Reyes is always a risk, and Panda is very out of shape. Guys like Porcello don't get you K's, and if you're lucky 7-11 wins. Dickey you can't count on at all. The worst part is you don't really have too many trade chips aside from the young pitching to acquire a bat. I'd shop Sale right now for a top 15 bat.
